Power training: Fast xp.

Slayer: Much more profit [it's good profit even at very low levels, most very low lvl monsters are awesome herb droppers], more total xp, less boring, unlocks more monsters, fuels itself and then some cashwise (say you use any barrows power training, that's loss, in slayer it's more than payed for by drops), for the most part less competition (less stressy), less likely to burn out, points system can buy you runes for slayer dart (training/cash). Theres also the black mask bonus, which whilst less than say salve at DT skeles, when compared to yaks can make you hit much harder, higher, more often, so much better for motivation.

So no, it's not faster xp, but really...your call.

If you get high combat through a method other and slayer, you'll be disappointed in yourself when you max combat way before you're done slaying. You'll probably want high slayer some day, you may as well get a jump on it now while you can use the combat exp too. The money is great, the black mask goes a long way toward making up for not being somewhere better for training, and you get points which can be traded for money.

what's so good about yaks?

Very low def with highish hp.

If you got a black mask and your efficient at your tasks, etc. its pretty good exp and hour. Not to mention you can get some good profit ontop of that. But for pure exp per hour yaks and dt skelles, bandits, etc. are better.

Is Slayer really a good way to train cb? Is it better xp than camping at yaks/dt skeletons?

Slayer is not the fastest way to train combat stats, but it does offer things to help you train other skills. I'll compare it to camping yaks/skeletons/bandits where the drops are minimal.

Slayer offers a wide variety of charms, of all colors. If you eventually want to train summoning, but can't stand camping waterfiends or lobsters, slayer is a decent alternative.

Slayer tasks is the only way to train slayer, if you eventually want a high level in slayer, you should start training it now to avoid going way over 13m xp in your combat stats.

Higher level slayer will provide money. It isn't fast money, but it comes in. After around level 75 slayer with gargoyles you'll begin making money. On a recent Abby Demon task I was obscenely lucky with 5 whip drops. That's 7.5m in 2 hours. Not bad if you ask me.

Slayer provides a slight variety. This is the big thing for me. You can do your tasks however you want be it melee, range, cannon, or chin. It keeps me from getting bored of click, hit, hit, hit, dead, click, hit....and so on and so forth.

While training slayer, you get to use the black mask, though not as potent as the Slave Amulet (e) it can be used on everything (given you have the slayer helm).

By the time I got 99 def and 99 range I'll have 10mil881k slay xp (that's level 97); then I only need to max out mage, which might get me 98slay,

so that'll be 1mil or more slay-xp double work for me

I really suggest doing all cb-training with slay.

As far as faster xp, it isn't. But you asked about better xp, and I'll say the quality of the experience is certainly higher. I would personally value slayer experience a lot higher than strength experience.

And if you plan on ever training slayer at any conceivable point in the future, you'll feel silly having wasted your time on yaks when you could have been slaying, now won't you?
