July 17, 200817 yr ... and to finally achieve that 1000 post barrier. Only one more to go. (last ten posts have taken about 2 years) Hey all, As you may or may not care, I've been drafted to work on Flash prototypes in a company called Digia. (way to stand out from the crowd with the name). Every now and then I however get to flex my graphics muscless and here's one instance. It's a promo video for our Mobile Software Development "offering", mainly to be shown in trade fairs and customer meetings. It's my first ever 3d work, but I'm positively surprised as to how it turned out to be. All the graphics are done by me, the texts - thank god - are not my idea. :D The "phone" is done in 3ds max and the animation on the screen is created using After Effects and trapcode's plug ins. (apart from the globe which is again 3ds max). The 3ds max stuff took a whole week+ since I had never worked on any 3d application before. A lot of getting used to :wall: . In the end, I managed to do the After effects stuff over a long weekend (3 days of so). So yeah, took a while to make, but at least my Mac Pro renders quite swiftly  Anyway, check it out on youtube (this is the music I made it to, not the final one - costs a fortune) or if you want to see the 480p version, try the DL link. (I'd recommend the download, but my server will die if you all go DLing :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUNcG9NICcI Warning - 116 Megs: www.elias.pietila.fidisk.fi/finalmoviebep2.mp4 So, tell me what you think or just say hi! July 17, 200817 yr Sup Avanor :D . Cool to hear you did some 3D work, looks good. I'm actually really trying to learn some more right now (using Maya) but haven't had much motivation in the past. What'd you suggest to start working on to work my way up? :P

July 17, 200817 yr That's video is awesome  Signature by LittleboyRunescape and impatient people are like ying and yang, they exist as one, they need each other
July 18, 200817 yr Very nicely done, only thing I would say could improve is that the camera is a bit too jerky in some parts. Can't say I knew you before, though. :P
July 18, 200817 yr I really hope your proud of yourself. Perfect, I just hate the music but that's a personal preference, good job on sync though.
July 18, 200817 yr Just a Question? Are you the guy who made that boat game or something like that? That was cool as hell. danke Schon Sam!^^"Blood runs thicker, oh were thick as thieves you know"-Carl Barât
July 21, 200817 yr Author Wheeh, 1000 posts... Most I've ever had on any forum. My ISP decided to kill my Internet connection starting last Friday. Just an hour before they did I paid my latest bill for it. On time I might add. Luckily the net still works from work \ Anyways, thanks for the praise. Nadril, I really couldn't recommend anything. I just picked up the first 3d software that came to my mind and started reading a couple of tutorials. :) dsavi_x4, yep, it's a bit jerky. After Effect's easing tool is horrible. The curves don't control the position as in Flash or 3DS MAX, but they control the speed. It's quite impossible to work with them. ThruItAll, yes I am. Hehe, we've since dropped the sysopen from the company name. Btw, I just noticed: you can click on high quality link in youtube to get some better video and audio.
July 21, 200817 yr Nadril, I really couldn't recommend anything. I just picked up the first 3d software that came to my mind and started reading a couple of tutorials. Yeah I figured as such. I've been having trouble trying to find some beginner tutorials for maya, most seem to assume you already know some things. I have a basic knowledge of the interface now.. but yeah. :) Still, pretty awesome video. I still remember when you were making your first sig, never thought you'd go on to do it for a living as well. Man, it's fun seeing a lot of people from TIF grow up and go on to take their skills to the real world. :P
July 21, 200817 yr Author Yep, starting a professional program such as Maya or 3DS Max can really be painfull without any classes on it. You bang your head against the wall on many simple yet hard to overcome problems. There really should be a list of "100 most common reasons your stuff doesn't work like you think". Then again, I probably wouldn't have the patience to sit through any school type of classes as they seem to always be tooo sloooow. And yeh, it's very strange that a random game's graphics forum houses such potent promise. There used to be many people that ended up making some sort of living out of this little hobby. Still, my bread and butter is coding atm. I just do these things to show my bosses that I'm superior to everyone else  \ Oh and a random quote from my boss' boss' boss on this particular animation: "This is the best thing that can happen on a Monday morning... with your pants on". (he's the CTO of our company and a board member at that). But no... no extra reward for pulling this one off. (kinda bums me out)
