It's A-Level Results time! (UK Exams)

Featured Replies

...and GCSE results of course in a week's time. Pardon my ignorance. :P

We do this sort of thing every single year so I figured I'll take the privilege since this year it's my turn to open up that dreaded envelope and see my future written a few simple letters. 14 years of education, and they break the news to me with digits I learnt at the age of 4. It's staggering when you think about it like that.

I'm going in at 10am tomorrow. I need an A in Biology, and an A and a B in Chemistry and Modern History. I'm so nervous about my Biology result - it's the only subject I've struggled on and I need it to get into Medical School. :ohnoes:

Grade inflation has risen (for the 26th year in a row... it used to be that only 5% of the population got an A :lol: ).

Remember the old advice... DON'T PANIC! Although that's not really helping me with my nerves at the moment.

So, post your results here, and your feelings about them. Good luck to everyone picking up their results tommorow! ::'

Good to see that students over there freak out just as much as they do in the states when it comes to getting into medical school haha.

PUNKIE!!!!

How are you my dear? Haven't spoken to you in ages...how's Arizona?

And good luck to all the British students, I wish you all luck in getting the grades you want/need, and where your next journey in education leads you :thumbsup:

In england don't you need to get a certain score to go to college?

My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet.

These are the times that try mens souls...

Each grade throughout Britain is appointed a certain value, and you can calculate your score as you go along, but I don't think many universities work this way anymore. Mine didn't, and no other Scottish university I know of does. It could be different in England however.

Getting my GCSE results next wednesday >_<

I think I did well enough to get into College! (studying gaming development) Gonna rock.

^dds'er in progress =D

I mean like that you need to be within a certain score range or else you can't go to college.

And that's what I was replying to. There's a point value assigned to A's and B's and what have you, but I don't think the scoring system is hugely important anymore. Universities tend to look at the grades and not the points, though they are linked.

Best of luck guys ::'

Ultra Unholy,

Hearted Machine...

glad i live in america. the good 'ole grading system has been dumbed down year after year to help students pass.

...wait, that could be bad.

I got two A's and a B last year, hoping for the same (roughly) this time. ::'

If you're referring to our universities instead of our colleges (sixth-forms), then some courses have UCAS point requirements but in fairness they are ridiculously easy to achieve. Most university courses just set grade requirements.

mitochondrion - by that name I'm guessing one subject was Biology? :P

Congrats on getting the grades! ::'

I'm going to pick up mine as soon as my dad gets here, I'm going to fail and I know it XD

Britain's grading system puzzles me. Someone care to enlighten me? ::'

Oh, well not the grading system. Excuse my words there.

Just tell me what the GSCE is and what it stands for. That would be nice of you. :D

GCSE = "general certificate of secondary education" i believe.

Get my a/s results in a couple hours, hope all the second years got what they needed for uni.

It basically goes from A* to something like E i think (IGCSE)

A* 100-90%

A - 89-80

B - 79-70

etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think it goes A*,A,B,C,D,E,F,U,X

U = Unclassified = Complete Fail.

X = Absent
