What would RS be without merchants?

What if they made it so you can only trade one item at a time. Like a 3rd age item for a stack of cash.

That would ruin merchanting, as no more junk trades. But how would that effect RS? Would all the merchants quit or figure out other ways, if there would be any?

What are all your thoughts on this. >_>

I'm not saying they would, but what if?

EDIT: Changed the "Is" in the title to "If". Typos ftl.

If you could only trade 3rd age for cash, that doesn't mean you would HAVE to trade your 3rd age items for cash. I believe 90% of 3rd age and mask owners would simply wait for the prices to update to a reasonable price range rather than give your items away for free. Also party hat owners would become really desperate.

Also to take away merchanting, you would have to remove the 5% +/- rule aswell, because that is how most merchants make their money nowadays.

Most merchants have switched to investing instead, and removing investing would have to mean that they'd remove price change #-o

Yes, that sig was annoying.

Strictly speaking no "if" topics allowed because people make anything from "wat if u could ride giraffes" and it always turns to spam, but I reworded your title so a good discussion doesn't have to be closed. (You can also re-edit it, if it's not suitable for you)

Why would this possibly happen? It would be suicide for Jagex, and they wouldn't have a reason to lol. :P

IF it happend, I probably wouldn't be that bothered really :twss:

By merchanting I mean players making others pay millions over the price.

What I find funny is people actually buy when you can spend awhile and get it for the real price in the GE.

well merchants now a days, are pretty much catalysts, apart from when they like to team crash items like guthans was team crashed.. or when they buy out items such as armadyl helms.. in a way merchants control rs now, as they control the ge, by buying out higher or selling lower in somecases..

To me when free trading was around i could set my own price like with nats the kid next to me selling 290 ea, ill wait for him to clear off and sell 300 ea, cant do that anymore, so its a little awkward.. price wise the person with the money is the person who controls the market

No no no no no, Smellysocks is obviously on to something here. I also feel that RS without merchants would be Heaven. Here's why.

Merchanting is, for lack of another word, a draconic practice. With the GE, we don't 'need' them anymore to jack prices up sky-high. This of course doesn't include making a very quick dollar, meaning selling slightly higher than someone right next to you.

I realize that there are others that won't share my sentiment, but I feel that RS would be far better off without merchants.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.
