D Scimitar and defender, or sara sword?

Featured Replies

Here's my dilemma, after I get a couple more attack levels with my whip I want to train my strength up. However, I'm not sure whether it would be more efficient for me to do this with my dragon scimitar and a rune defender, or if I should buy a sara sword for the strength training. Here's how I broke down the numbers:

D scimitar plus rune defender gives me 86 slash attack bonus and 71 strength bonus.

Sara sword gives me 82 slash attack bonus and 82 strength bonus.

In a crude method of determining how much that 11 extra strength bonus will do for me, I plugged in those two weapons into the tip it max hit calculator with my current strength level. According to the calculator my max hits are 21 for the scimitar/defender and 22 for the sara sword. So that shows me there is a minimal difference in max hit abilities, but I'm not sure if the extra attack bonus of the d scimitar/defender will make much of a difference or not either. Basically I'm leaning toward just using my scimitar and defender, but I would like some input on the subject, do you guys think the extra 1 damage is worth it? Or the extra small attack bonus. I also have to keep in mind that the sword is about 70 times the price of the other option.

I'd say use the Scim + Defender, and use the extra money on prayer potions and super sets to speed up your training even more.

The Sara sword is pretty definitely better exp- it seems to be more accurate as well (accuracy is a hidden stat on weapons- slash bonus is different. Higher slash bonus means that if you do hit, it's likely to hit harder. You still need accuracy to make the hit in the first place). People have done tests and things- I haven't personally because I've had 99 strength for quite a while.

I would stick with scimy just because sara sword is spiralling downwards in price, so I would really not want to buy it right now. You will end up losing a lot of money with sara sword. To be honest my best suggestion is to just use whip on controlled. It will be much better in the long run to use controlled to train strength.

Good luck

Dont forget that with the money saved, you can buy other str bossting gear. A fury, berserker ring, d boots etc, while keeping the extra bonus of the scim and defender. You can also buy much more pots to speed up the training and dont rule out the minimal but still useable defence of the defender.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

Personally I have grown to hate the d scimmy for the rest of my time in RS. It, among other reasons, is why my str level is only 84 at 123 combat.. I'm not a huge fan.

However ever since buying a sara sword I have found more fun in my training my hits are more accurate and that's where my enjoyment with the weapon comes.

In short I would say go with the sara sword if u got the money, cost is not an issue for me thsta why I'm biased towards the sara sword

Apparently, my signature was to big.

It really all comes down to the money, but I think you'd be better off with the d scimitar concidering the differences are minimal compared to the price. The extra money saved could either be spent on food and potions to train more or put it towards another skill/make an investment.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice guys. I think for now I'll stick with my scimitar, and buy pots and other gear, but maybe if the sara sword gets really cheap I might buy one to try it out. Thanks again.

I highly doubt this. I never follow rumours, and it's a good idea you shouldn't. A big game like runescape is full ob bs.

Use a D Scimi, Fury, Zerker Ring, Defender and other strength boosting gears - you will probably high better stats doing this than just using the Sara sword.

Or he can use all that gear with the sara sword and it would be even more better then the scim.

My personal opinion is the d scim is pure trash.

Just my opinion

I have suspected this for a long time, and had it nearly confirmed when the first enchanted bolt update came out.

You see, people were confused about what an "armor piercing" effect on diamond bolts meant. After speculation and argument, somebody took a bunch of them to giant rock crabs and let loose. The results were terrible- something like 3 special effects in 1000 bolts. After a lot of arguing and people dismissing the bolts as useless, the Jagex mod who programmed them spoke up.

She explained that base defense and the "ranged defense" armor bonus have very different roles. The base defense will effect accuracy of attacks, while the ranged armor bonus will effect how hard the attack hits. So, if you shoot a diamond bolt at something and it HITS, and a special is triggered, then you get to act as though the ranged armor bonus is 0, and thus have a high chance of hitting high damage.

This seems to be the case with weapons as well. A higher attack bonus means a higher chance of a high hit, but has nothing to do with accuracy. Accuracy is determined by something else. We can see this at work with a dragon halberd- it has a huge slash attack bonus, but I never noticed hitting any less 0s than with a whip. In fact, I felt that it was extremely inaccurate. We can also, of course, see this with the Sara sword. Please feel free to go try it yourself- I think you will find that it is extremely accurate compared to a dragon scimitar.

Note that enchanted bolts have since had an overhaul (they were extremely useless in the past), and thus diamond bolts don't work that way anymore. They now actually have a max hit bonus as well.

In the long run SS is better. Dragon scim and defender is fine though.
