Nadril
First of all I apologize if there is not much information, as this is actually happening with my sisters computer (who currently lives a few thousand miles from me). The problem is that she will be browsing the internet and, upon going to a site, the browser will open up something like a hundred extra windows with that page in it. She has tried IE (not sure what version) and Firefox 3.0, and tried a virus scan. I'm not sure if it is any sort of malware that spybot/Ad Aware would fine, because it seems like such an odd problem. Apparently it happens on random, she hasn't really noticed any kind of pattern (or didn't mention it). Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? All I know for her specs is that she is on a Core2duo laptop (1.8ghz or so) and I believe has 2GB of ram for it. I don't know much more than that, but I can always ask her for extra details. So again, sorry about the lack of details here but I just can't wrap my head around this without actually seeing it.
Makoto_the_Phoenix
There's a lot we could infer from not knowing too much more. What site was she looking at when this happened? What kind of software (read: anything that rhymes with "psunorrent") is on her computer? Does she use AOL, MSN Messenger, does she browse Myspace/Facebook? sloter
I would personally run like an adaware and a Spybot S&D scan on it.
Dracion1
Has she tried getting a HijackThis log, and getting someone to take a look at it? Aside from Virus/Malware scans that's all I can think of. "In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." Or anything that rhymes with "razorus, spitcomet, limefire, frostfire" or the like. I'd say we need a HJT log or some adware scans. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.
Nadril
She doesn't have any P2P programs on her PC. The example she gave me was she was opening facebook and it would happen, not sure if it can happen on any page. I'll tell her to do the standard spyware check on her PC and see if that helps. pryomancer
A HJT scan would definitely help.
urbestfreind
Bette yet, have her sign up for an account and explain the problem to us? Seems like it would be more helpful, as we would get answers and results straight from the source. I'll agree with the HJT, SpyBot S&D, and Ad-Aware scans. Other than that, like everyone else said, not much we can do without some specifics. [hide=Funny Quotes]So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? cfrydj
I'm having the exact same problem. And it also happens with Facebook for me, and only with Facebook. I'm using IE 7, and if I have FB open in a tab and then close the tab, I get an endless stream of new brower windows opening to the FB page I was just on. I've run scans, and I have no viruses. Like I say, it only happens in Facebook, and only if I've got Facebook open in a tab, not if it's the only tab in the window (if that makes sense). rwinner16
Double check her firewall settings. My sister had a similar problem, just turn on the built in pop-up blocker. If you decide to run Spy-Bot and Ad-aware, make sure to be careful before you just start telling it to auto-fix everything. Spy-Bot will sometimes think that Ad-aware is spy-ware and start deleting critical files. A good program to get, free, is CCLEANER(formerly called Crap Cleaner, hence the CC) free disk cleaner, but it also has the ability to do simple registry fixes. Without actually seeing the problem, I can only give you a broad suggestion of fixes that might help. Live life to the fullest, or don't live at all. Bufoman
I had this same problem, and it gave me a real headache. Here is what I did about it. I went into Internet Options, chose programs tab, clicked on manage add ons. Now, go down the list of everything that you do not need (stuff that is not from Microsoft, or a program you use regularly. Disable these. This should fix the problem.
