Hi, have you ever tried helping one or a group of people out only to have it blow up in your face?

 

Well I have, and this felt like a good time to share my experiences as well as for other people to get there's out. Plus I thought it would make for some interesting stories.

 

 

 

To begin with we all the the IQ of the average RS player is about 30, so an intelligent players intentions or words can often be misinterpreted and there is just a general dislike for people with compassion in this game.

 

 

 

Twice have I run into these kinds of people.

 

 

 

#1) The first day the Academy of Safety was released I hurried to the new building just like everyone else and completed the test and ran through the dungeon, discovering the treasure chest and its cool new rewards. When I came back I noticed there were many lower level or newer players who were scared or confused as to what the dungeon held in store for them. So I start advertising that I'm taking anyone and everyone to the treasure chest absolutely risk and cash free. Upon which someone comes and says "Scammer! There is no chest! Reported!" and starts encouraging others to report me for scamming as well. Though this didn't really effect the crowds and crowds of people who I lead to the chest and back again without a scratch, it was still quite frustrating.

 

 

 

#2) You may not be aware of this but for a few days there was a problem with the bank which lead to dozens of Dragon Fire Shields, Abyssal Whips and other items being dropped out of your inventory instead of safely deposited into your bank, which most people did not notice and lost their respective items. It was all over the forums so I'd thought I would be a good samaritan and warn people in game. I was at Clan Wars repeating the message for players not to bank their DFS for a few days, and to check out the forums to see what was happenning. After a few minutes of this someone accuses me of scamming, going on about how a DFS could not be lent (I can only assume he figured I wanted someone to lend me their DFS so they wouldn't have to bank it, but I had not even mentioned item lending once). Soon other people join in also calling me a scammer, trouble maker and an idiot for trying to spare a few people of potentially losing their items and millions of GP due to a glitch. It was so bad I haven't ever tried to help people in crowds again. However one guy did check the forums and confirmed my story for me, though he was also quickly ganged up on and called the same names I was.

yeah i used to give away all the monster drops and TT rewards below 500k to below 80 combat at banks,oneday i swiched private to on to get a pm off some1 from forums if they was selling an item i was buying,and the items i gave to these people even a year ago started messaging,there were 10s and 10s of people begging.well i swiched priv to friends again shortly after,and it will forever stay thatway.

 

 

 

and just for the fun of it,one of the guys i met a day later and he was lvl 124 pming me for a free rune pic. -.-

There's nothing wrong in being cautious, but when people just throw out harsh accusations it's annoying lol

 

 

 

I don't usually speak in game for that reason - people are always gonna find something to throw back in your face so if you don't say anything - most of the time they're not gonna say anything to you which you may find offensive

It is called, "Misuse of Customer Support", which can get you banned and/or reported.

I agree whole heartedly, I love to help people out all the time. I didn't like to charge people for services. Numerous people would ask things like "Oh Shaza can you please make me *insert item* i'll give you *insert cash here*" If someone asked nicely, i would do it for free, who am I to charge for clicking my mouse a couple of times. Sadly people just assume that everyone who says this is scammers. Many people use this polite, caring appearance to scam others. Well they used to before the latest updates. They just naturally assume you are going to scam them, even if they do not read what you typed first. Due to these people i do not help unless asked. I would prefer to be asked and know that the other player will appreciate my time than be accused of being a scammer and possibly losing the good status of my account.

 

 

 

As for the bank glitch, i was not actually aware of this. :shock:

I remember before summoning came out i asked some people that were training in my area if they were excited for the new skill update, summoning. But because they hadn't read the first development guide, which title was "?????- Part".

 

 

 

So some of them called me a liar or that i was trying to get peoples hopes up.

Hmph. I had people over level 80 on p2p coming up to me every holiday asking me "wats dat" on the second week of the holiday event. Talk about stupid people.

meh i stopped helping people cept when they were nice... :wall: its kinda annyoign being called a scammer when i said putting abby whip in party chest-i had just got 2 ^^ som dude put in 100!

Most people don't want to be helped, leave it at that. Help people who want to be helped, deserve to be helped and have the intelligence to understand what you're saying to them.

i personally dont care about their opinions on me but it sometimes, not so much annoy, but a bit of a pester when say, they want to buy 1 diamond and there in a rush. i'll just give it to them, i dont care about charging i dont use them often, but then they put up junk offers etc and im like. i dont mind if you did or didnt pay but please anything but junk. :

I've had almost this exact situation happen with me, and it's also why I don't give out free stuff anymore. Awhile back there was this guy who came up and asked me if I had any spare stuff I could give him since he had been hacked, I said sure and gave him just about everything I had doubles of including a rune pick axe haha. But about every 15 minutes he'd PM me wanting me more and more, until finally I just put him on my ignore list. It's not the only time that's happeend either.

 

 

 

People just can't be modest and accept what you're willing to give them, they have to milk you for all you're worth. :?

In my opinion, I just try to help others, regradless of what they try to do to me...I don't really care about their stupidity or angst or whatever it is that makes them hate me. It's a pity that people who are genuine about helping others and lumped with criminals like scammers and bots. -.-

The vast majority of Runescape players are [wagon] and [bleep]s. Play the game and find a good group of friends within the game, stick with them and you'll be fine. In Runescape it's come to a point where you only should care for yourself and your friends as any other attempt at a good deed will backfire.

I totally agree with kranked1. I keep myself out of the general RuneScape community on purpose. And I have done this for about half of the time I've played the game. The only true part of the community I'm a part of is the Tip.It portion. :D

Lol, your skin needs to be as thick as you need it! (Perhaps dragonhide skin, or a glass wall will do for you.) ;)

 

 

 

OT: It's best to not let stupid people get to you - jerk you out of your calm "mental cool." My best suggestion is to simply ignore it or think of something funny to get their comment off your mind.

 

 

 

Example: Your giving help and someone responds, "ZOMG scam N00B!" You then think to yourself, "I hope a dragon eats you in your sleep," or something silly like that. :P

 

 

 

Bottom line - people are stupid! :o Find the nice, stupid people and stick with 'em! :D

Sounds familiar..... I even got reported while assisting in air altar (helping out lower lvl-ed runners to get some gp, however I do get some xp in return) and even though I am a player that does not scam people try to say I am a scammer. I have a large mouth and I say it if someone scams, mostly when this happends the scammers turn angry and say I am a scammer leaving me alone without any runners. Also i have been reported for saying mauranius x9 multiple times as spamming. I do try to help people there not to get scammed, but they don't seem to mind when I get backstabbed after I am trying to help them. (cabbage)

I'm glad I'm in the minority of players that isn't an absolute fool.

Best thing to do is just worry about yourself and let everyone else do what they do. :mrgreen:
