PumpkinPete112
So i own a copy of "Roller Coaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack" but i cant play it because my CD drive is broken. So since i have it, would i be considered illegal for me to download and play a torrent of it? Thanks! Sig

urbestfreind
I'd have to say since the torrent is an illegal copy of a program (or anything really), then you would be charged with possession of stolen goods. Although, you do have a legit copy, which would mean you weren't stealing anything, but just making you copy usable...Well...I'm confused now.. :? I wouldn't try it anyways because torrents aren't safe to download a lot of the time (at least in my experience). I would just buy a new CD, or get a large flash drive (a decent-sized iPod, such as the 5G video would work too), go to a friend's house, copy the files from CD to the aforementioned drive, and then go back to your house and do the install (provided all of you USB ports aren't broken as well, in which case, get a new computer). Don't listen to Mlbfan... You can get caught, and although it's unlikely that you'll get caught for one thing, you not only risk the fines and jail time, but getting a virus or two along the way. urbestfreind
If it has a disk mode on it, sure. My iPod 5G (30GB video) has a cracked screen, and it's out of warranty, so I've been using it as an external hard drive for awhile. When you plug it in, check any software you use to see if there's a disk mode option, or maybe just open it through My Computer, and make a new folder on it titled RCT:2 or something like that. I looked and the only thing I found was that it's like 202 MegaBytes, so you should be golden. It all depends on the size of the game, but I don't think the game will be over 7.8GB (which is what you should have with almost all songs/videos or whatever taken off). Try it and see, if it doesn't work, at least you know for the future. If it does, you have a spare portable hard drive if you should need one. konzserwas
Don't listen to Mlbfan... You can get caught That depends on where you live. At my place everyone is using illegal software and no one has ever been caught.. Heck, if you go to a pretty small store you can even find some illegal CD's to buy for like 10 times lesser price compared to legal ones :? Makoto_the_Phoenix
While I don't think that it's illegal, the companies would beg to differ. Although there's nothing stopping you from doing such, if you own the software, I personally don't think that it's a crime to download a working copy. Just err on the side of caution, alright? sloter
Along with everyone else yes it is illegal.
pryomancer
It is still illegal. Yes, you have paid money for the original, but there won't be a rule that stops you being prosecuted since you bought the actual game. Otherwise it would be far too easy to get away with it. DaN
It's a difficult question to answer. Because you are allowed to make copies of media you own so long as you don't distribute or break encryption. It's safe to just assume that it is illegal. I download allot of torrents, the chance of getting caught is next to zero. ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002

thrash-boy
yes it is illegal and i wouldn't recommend it if you already have a copy of the game. just get a new cd drive or mount an iso of it or something. Although the chance of getting fined is next to nothing, expessially if your in a country that doesn't inforce piracy rules very much or has rules to protect your privacy so you cant be traced, there are alot of torrents that have viruses and it is alot of waiting for it to download (expessially on poorly seeded torrents) when you already have the game on a cd in front of you. Just get an iso image of the game by suing another/a friends computer and put it back on your computer with a flash drive etc and mount it. Your [Caution: Executable File]c is using security features that detect it as not being an original disc, so if you want to try a crack, PM me and i'll link you to a site that has cracks(no-cd cracks anyway). I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.
