Zemouregal and the Staff of Armadly + Mahjaratt Speculation

Featured Replies

During the newest quest, 'Defender of Varrock', there are several moments where Zemouregal is in plain view. There's even a nice cutscene that gets us up close in personal with him! We already have a wallpaper released that confirms his image, so the significance is for comparison and speculation

You see, it just hit me... Zemouregal bares a striking resemblance to some past concept art, which was described buy Jagex as "content aimed to be released in 2008". Below I have three images; the cutscene appearance of Zemouregal, the wallpaper image of him, and the unidentified concept art taken from the Dev. Diary 'RuneScape vs. Real-world Trading'.

The major point in speculation? IF indeed the concept art is meant to depict Zemouregal, the largest hint towards the future would be that he is indeed holding the Staff of Armadyl.

Discuss. Do you think Zemouregal has the Staff of Armadyl? (thats the point of my speculation)

(p.s. - If the images wont load for you, as they aren't for me, I apologize, and I'm working on it)

But yes, I have noticed this. It's entirely possible.

Isn't the Staff of Arma in the Museum at this point? Or is that a replica?

Either way, I have a funny feeling the Staff of Arma will end up being a quest reward. I just hope it does good things.

Hehe, that sounds very Jagex-esque.

They couldn't keep the real staff in the museum, I don't think, even though it was done with the Shield of Aarrav. Where and how Zemouregal will find the real one is a mystery so far.

I don't see why a difference between concept art and actual content makes such a big specualtion?

The concept art was clearly concept art for zemergoul

It was due for release this year, it has been

Sure in the concept art he is holding a staff but just look at all rs concept art we've ever seen its all far more detailed than the final products.

I doubt its anything to speculate to wildly over.

Whats worth more speculation is the fact we now know for sure that 6/9 named mahjaratt are definately in the north instead of 5 of 6 and that they said the time for the ritual is soon. Now a ritual perform by mahjaratt can only be two things - summoning zammy (unlikely as the elves are doing tht) or summoning their overthrown ex-lord Zaros.

so, what is your basis for such? i am just a little curious, also... hazeel? liked to see that guy again.

End of regicide you read the letter and they say they r preparing to summon to the empty lord which is a known name for zamorak, depsite the fact many players lesser versed in rs history and mythlogy will insit the empty lord IS zaros

Regardless of who he is, Zemouregal makes me think of Skeletor. I hope in the next quest with him, we get to wield Armadyl's staff and shout "I have the POWER!" turning into an almost obscenely ripped warrior who would than proceed to beat him until he cries skeleton tears.

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Or some big birthday party from 1 of the mahjaratt?

Why does it always have to be this "easy" to what happens: the majharatt aren't really known for their loyality: each have their own agenda they want to fullfill! - It doesn't seem very likely they would summon somebody to lead them! (just like zemouregal doesn't want to work together with lucien..)

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I don't see why a difference between concept art and actual content makes such a big specualtion?

Yeah but the mahjaratt basically ruled runescape. Then Zaros was overthrown and one by one they were killed or imprisoned or driven into hiding. They are clearly vengeful and power hungry and the most logical way to regain thier power would be to resurrect Zaros as in the absence of Armaydal no-ong (seemingly) is powerful enough to defeat him. So under his leadership they would have free reign once again

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

Perhaps the elves will summon Zammorak, these dudes will summon Zaros, they'll start to fight and in the midsts of it all Saradomin will decide now is the time to ambush to take both evils down and then Guthix will appear in a raging stupor and be like "Arrrgggghh what's going on here?! snarf snarf"...and if that weren't enough the gnomes will all be going chaotic and form an alliance with the dwarves (since they're both little) which together will form an intricate tunnel system connected to large hollowed out trees so they have access to attack any landlocked area (because honestly, what god would anticipate the gnomes and dwarves attacking? it's genius) and since Jagex wouldn't want a mass war destroying their precious game they will call upon a single brave adventurer (that's us) to sort out the whole ordeal and BOOM! New superfreakingamazinglyepic quest.

May the presents of our lord and savior, Santa, be with you this holiday season!

Well if, as the concept art suggests, Zemouregal gets his hands on the Staff of Armadyl, then we'll be in for quite the future quest.

In my opinion, that concept art is telling us, not suggesting, that he will.

picture7eo0.png

Seems Zemo is the Mahjarrat with the Staff...wonder if he's going to get a hold of the Stone of Jas or whatever it is that's in his head.

As you said, they have differing loyalties. So this leads me to two different theories. One, they're going to form sides and fight for the supremacy of their leader, though this strikes me as overly simple. Or two, they're putting they're differences aside to conquer Runescape. As it has been said, they used to rule Runescape. Maybe they wish to do so again, only minus Zaros or Zamorak. Zemouregal also said something about Lucien wanting to take charge. Of course, not all of them strike me as evil. The camel one, Athanakos right?, seemed to be grateful for the aid you give him during Anakhras lament.

For the THIRD TIME Zamorak is the empty lord.

The only use of the name the empty lord is in the elf story line as to who they are trying to summon.

All other references in said story line refer directly to Zamorak.

Ergo the empty lord is zamorak

The last ghost of the Ghostly Robes sub-quest clearly and blatantly states that the Empty Lord is Zaros -.-

This is true however in the elf series the empty lord clearly refers to Zamorak.

Eg all modern non mahjaratt references = Zamorak
