June 29, 200521 yr I'm thinking of buying some weight gainer shakes/ powders and before I do I want to know if anyone here has used them. My mom is really skeptical on ordering it because she thinks there may be side-effects and things of that nature. Also I'm no expert on health and what some of the ingredients in these shakes are so could someone maybe tell me if they see anything wrong in the ingredients. Thanks a lot! links: Whey Protein http://www.musclesurf.com/100wheyprot2.html N- Large http://www.musclesurf.com/nlarge2.html
June 30, 200521 yr Just wondering, is it for football season coming up? Back on topic: Even though I've never taken those, I myself am really skeptical. If eating the right foods like a lot of meat and protein, lots of carbs, and lots of calories work for gaining weight, then I don't see much point in doing different. This is of course assuming that you're trying to gain some muscle bulk. If that's the case, just eat the above, you'll gain some weight, and if you work out, lift, excercise, you should be turning those carbs protiens and calories into muscle. Anyway, that's just what I do, and like I said, I don't know much about these "shakes", so I can't say anything about their affectiveness. Gamertag: King Arizona
June 30, 200521 yr i have, if you have a walmart where you live you should go there if your looking for cheap stuff that gives results. Recommended: (both are powders) -Whey Protein Chocolate flavor. Mix it with chocolate milk and shake it for about 2 minutes and drink it. About 8-10 dollars. -Creatine Fruit Punch flavor. Mix it with fruit punch powerade or gatorade. About 10-15 dollars.
June 30, 200521 yr Whey protein is fine, theres nothing to be skeptical about - if you want muscle gains, you need to get protein, and regular diets just don't usually have it. btw, these are good too: http://www.advantagesupplements.com/ultramet20pk.html
June 30, 200521 yr Author ust wondering, is it for football season coming up? Close, basketball practices have started, and though I'd like to put on some weight for that, I'm just (IMO) way too skinny. btw I weigh 120 and I'm 5'10"....yeah...
June 30, 200521 yr btw I weigh 120 and I'm 5'10"....yeah... lol you sound like me ^_^ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. June 30, 200521 yr Whey protein is basically the same as eating normal food - just in really condensed amounts. No side effects, providing you're not gluten intolerant :P
June 30, 200521 yr If your keen on gaining weight by building muscles then lift weights - sure, going to a gym is more expensive than drinking the shakes, but you still need to exercise with those. And if you can find a job where you lug around heavy stuff, then you can get payed to lift heavy weights (and build muscle!) If any of this doesn't sound right it's cos i know nothing at all about what I'm talking about, being 6'1, and weight about 140- 145... I know i put on some weight when i was training hard out for our trip to Australia for hockey. Other than that i find it's impossible for me to put on weight. My bro on the other hand, went to the gym every 2nd day for months, and at the end weighed as much as (and was bench pressing as much as) I weigh... despite being only 5'4, and 2 years younger than me!
June 30, 200521 yr yea, i know how it is. I was the same, but now i'm not that much better :P i weight 135 6 foot. The powder does work. It will help u get big, just drink it on a regular basis, work out while your taking em, other wise you'll get a beer belly, and IMPORTANT.........DRINK A LOT OF WATER. The powder can give u kidney stones if u don't have enough water to break it down. I became stronger(could lift more), but I'm still skinny (77 inches or 1.9 m) and weigh 185 lbs - Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

How old are you? Because if you're just comin out of a growth spurt, your body isn't goin to start filling out until it darn well wants too  . So if you're gaining strength but not weight, don't worry about it. The fact that you're gettin stronger is evidence enough that what you're doin is working, and you're body will start to look better when it decides it's gotten to that stage, and I don't think you can rush it. Besides, many athletes would love to be able to get much stronger without gaining weight. Boxers and wrestlers come to mind  On the topic of powders and stuff like that, I think they're a waste of money. My dad teaches chemistry at a prep school for big-time jocks, particularly hockey players. They all get some sorta powder. My dad looked at the ingredients in one and found a toxic chemical. Probably there's nothin toxic in this whey protein you're talkin about, but it just goes to show how much bull goes into get-buff-quick products. Eat a balanced diet; if you don't think you're gettin enough protein, eat an extra steak. The western diet is so rich anyway, you already have all the protein you need, and your body is just not using all of it right now. Your body will choose to put it to good use if you're working out when you start filling out. Basically, you're already in a protein wash, why do you need more? Then again, I aint a doctor, so don't trust me. I'm 6'4" (a few centimeters less than Knightlite) and still only 155 pounds  I worked out and doubled my strength in six months, gained over an inch and less than ten pounds, so I think I'm right where you are. But I aint worried. I'll get big eventually. In the meantime, I'm just really lean and a helluva lot stronger than I look  btw knightlite, 6'5" and 185 isn't too bad. I wouldn't complain if I were you  .....jeesh, I wrote an essay, didn't I? Sorry about that, I guess I got a lil carried away
June 30, 200521 yr All I can say is, if you feel or visibly see your growing, stop working out. I did and it saved me from monging up growing muscles, osgood-schlatters, working out for no gain etc. I got up to 5ft 10 and started again. I'm just under 6ft and weigh 190lbs now. When you've reached a stable height for awhile, start/resume working out. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
June 30, 200521 yr Work on stamina, run, swim, bike etc. before you weightlift. You will build your strength at the same time as well.
July 1, 200520 yr Way back in year 7 (6 years ago), I lost 3 stone in 3 weeks because of apendicitis and a lot of complications. This wasn't good, as I was only 6 stone to start with. I had to put the weight back on, and fast. I used these random milkshake things called nourishment, you dilute them and drink em. I only needed around 4, as when I went home I was eating normally again, so I put on my weight naturally. The shakes just sped it up a bit. And I have no idea what 3 stone and 6 stone is in kilos, so I can't help you there. Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores: Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! Stupid MTA
July 2, 200520 yr creatine is what i have used used to weight 140 pounds and 6foot now im 160 6foot and all of my gains are in mucle but reamber if u take it (whic u can buy at any health food store) drink lots of water find the proper dose theres a calculator for that on some site and work out so it will work proper : :D
July 4, 200520 yr I do not recommend "weight gain" powders, since they are made up of sugar, mostly empty carbohydrates, unless you want your weight gain to consist of body fat Whey protein, creatine (both in proper doses), with healthy diet and exercise is the best plan. I personally perefer optimum nutrition's 100% whey protein, chocolate flavored  Don't skimp on the creatine, the cheaper stuff tends to come from China, and its impurities tend to cause most of the side effects (digestive distress :P) You will also need plenty of water when using creatine, because it tends to pull in water and retain it in the muscles
July 4, 200520 yr if ur still in your growth sperts i wouldnt worry about your wieght. for me i dont gain any wieght as im in my spert, but the months before i enter the spert i gain like 10-20 pounds and then it just evens out. fattening yourself up mite come back and haunt u when your older
July 5, 200520 yr Whey Protein is best just after doing your workout. It is a very fast digesting protein, so it is best to take it just after working out to rebuild the muscles. If you want to gain weight/muscle, then you need to eat. It is not all about adding in 1 protein shake and hoping to gain weight. You need to eat alot of hi-protein foods. If you start creatine, please make sure you are using it properly. You will need to drink a TON of water if you start it. Do not forget to drink alot of water, as your body will be needing it.
July 6, 200520 yr i happen to have a 3kg jug of whey protein sitting right here, have used it basically daily for a couple years now. This one cost me around $30, and will last me 40~ days. Each scoop is 31g and has 20g of protein in it. (2.5g of fat and 5g of carbs) One slight problem is a slighty higher level of cholesterol in whey protein than from egg protein or white meat protein. If you get protein, make sure its whey protein, and make sure its instantized (dissolves in water easily) Overall, it is healthy as an ADDITTION to a workout program and a healthy diet. DO NOT in ANY circumstance use whey protein as meal replacement, as it does not have any of the required nutrients to maintain a healthy body.
