That's because Linux isn't there biggest competitor. Mac isn't the name of the operating system either :roll: . Its just the brand name. No OS is, or ever will be, safe from viruses. Unless, of course, you wrote the OS yourself, on a computer with all new, blanked out parts (HD and RAM, etc), never showed the source code to anyone, developed your own applications, and never connected it to the internet, and never let anyone else on it...But how many of us can raise our hands when asked if we've done that? People try to crack into mainframes every day, at least one of those people is using a virus of some sort to help them along. And to the tro..Mlbfan13....A lot of people use Linux. For desktops, there are very few people who use it as their only operating system. However, Linux is used a lot by large companies for their servers. And that's just so far. There are multiple programs like One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) that are using Linux on cheap computers and sending them to developing countries, which would increase the number of people using Linux by an incredible amount, if the plans succeed. And notice the ~ meaning around 0. So calm yourself down before you have a heart attack. There are far fewer virus's for Max OS X than for Windows OS and that is a fact. I've actually had this debate with a friend of mine. I argued a PC is any type of desktop computer and the OS doesn't matter as any desktop computer could be consider a "personal computer". So in my mind they are trying to compare Macs (using OS X) to PCs (using Windows) which used to be a legitimate debate. But most people just see PCs as computers running Windows because lets face it, almost any PC you buy nowadays comes with some version of Windows preinstalled :wall: Although Linux and Macs are giving Windows a hard time seeing as how Vista got blackmarked early on and now everyone thinks Vista=trash right off the bat. Guess I still have a lot to learn on that side of the computer universe. Arixe, I saw "around zero" but people saying Macs don't have viruses annoy the hell out of me, just the same as people who say "there is a Mac, and a PC" when a PC can be anything. Moving on, I'm going to have to agree with stevepole. I don't believe it's OS-specific. Most people think that a PC is Windows-only because of the vast market share that Microsoft has. Most computers come pre-installed with Windows. I've yet to go into a store and find the Linux test computers, but I could bike over to Circuit City and check if they've added that section. Yes, Macs, Windows machines, and Linux computers are very different from one another, but as far as a Personal Computer goes, shouldn't the OS on it be a user choice, by definition? I may be wrong, but I thought that a PC was any computer that isn't a server (meaning Desktops, Laptops, and Tablets, reguardless of the OS on those machines).
