Going for 99 fishing

Recommended Posts

Depends what your aiming for;

Cash = Monkfish

Laziness = Fly fishing shilo village

Speed = Barbarian fly fishing

Personally I would do the barbarian option as you get a nice little exp bonus in agility and strength, but with your 99 strength and high agility its not worth the extra concentration.

I tested both when I was 90 fishing so these results will apply to you too. You can expect around 40-45k xp per hour fishing fly fishing at shilo (with fish pot and without a fishing boosting familiar (ibis or granite lobster)) and around 33-35k fishing monkfish.

Profits for both stand at 35k gp per hour fly fishing (this accounts for the cost of feathers) and selling raw and around 110k gp per hour at monkfish selling raws.

In comparison, sharks give 13k xp per hour and 125k gp.

Lobbies give 27k xp per hour and 95-100k gps

Tunas and swordies will give 25-26k xp and 80-85 gps per hour.

These results may vary, but expect them to be around those numbers on the long run. Have fun fishing, my choice is monkfish and I've gotten 9k out ot 63k for 99 fishing. My ibis has gotten me 600 raw swordies so far, it pays for itself (3-4k profit per pouch and 200 extra xp per pouch foraging...not taking into account the invisible fishing boost).

I'll back up these numbers, and add that heavy rod fishing is about 50-56k exp/hr.

I strongly recommend AGAINST fly fishing, lobsters, sharks, or swordfish. All of them are less efficient than either monkfish or heavy rod fishing. You should go with the heavy rod fishing--I'm sure you'll appreciate the agility levels. I know I did.

I'd also like to point out that this is incorrect. The best fish for laziness is actually monkfish.

Monks are about 40k xp/hour, shilo is about 55k xp/hour.

In my opinion the money earned from monkfish is better then an extra 15k xp/hour, and tbh piscatoris is much more relaxing and fun to train at with great people to talk to while fishing, while shilo is boring and bland.

The first part is false and the second part is true. Both those exp rates are way too high, but you can easily prove mathematically that the extra speed of fly fishing is only worth the money lost if you can make over ~500k gp/hr. Similarly, you can also prove mathematically that you need to make less than about 210k gp/hr for fly fishing to beat heavy rod fishing, if you don't assign any value to the agility, strength, and cooking experience. (If you did give them an appropriate time-value, you'd need to make less than ~160k gp/hr for fly fishing to be better.)

Anyway, it's obviously impossible to say your income fits into both of those, so one way or the other fly fishing will NEVER be an efficient training method for getting 99 fishing.

Alternatively, you could simply average out monkfish and heavy rod fishing. If you fished at Baxtorian for an hour for every hour you spent fishing at Piscatoris, your average xp/hr would be the same as purely fly fishing, but you'd make more money and you'd get bonus experience in three other skills.

Some stats for ya:

Heavy rodding (Otto's Grotto)- 45-50k/hr (90+ close attention) No Cash

Shilo Fly Fishing- 38-44k/hr (90+ close attention) 8-10m by 99

Monkfishing- 31-36k/hr (90+ close attention) 40m by 99 (more the earlier you start)

Hope this helps

Someone gets me yay.

Ily I5k. <3:

And since the XP you get from Heavy rodding is easily obtained FREE then I'd love to get 30M+ in my bank with monks.

(Agility = free. Strength = free.)

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Btw Ray I finished that test I promised!

I did 15 minutes at both monkfish and Heavy Rod Barbarian Fly Fishing. Note this is WITH an Ibis and no other boosts. (3 more levels to Rock Lobby w00t)

HEAVY ROD: It came out to an average of 43k per hour. I also got about 4k strength and agility xp, which may be little. But that's about 5 minutes of agility running and 3-5 minutes of strength training. I did not calculate cooking xp, but I'd estimate 6k.

MONKFISH: A tiny bit above 30k per hour. I also got 80k worth of Monkfish. That's 320k per hour gained at Monkfish (in monetary terms).

So then, at Barbarian you are sacrificing 320k per hour to gain 13k extra fishing xp and 12 minutes of work in agility, strength, and cooking. In ~2 hours, you'd gain an extra hour at Barbarian (after factoring in A/S/C xp). That makes Barbarian 33% faster than Monkfish, but you are sacrificing 320k for that speed.

This means that if you can make over 640k an hour, Barbarian is the better place for you to be. If not, it's to Piscatoris for you.

A few side notes:

-You could probably gain more xp in Strength/Agility than I did, since I rounded them down a lot when I was testing

-The Ibis SEEMED to Forage more Swordfish at Piscatoris. Which makes sense. It was a difference of about 3. Plus, at Piscatoris, you can easily bank those Swordfish.

-I'll admit I wasn't as focused at Barbarian as I was at Piscatoris

-Barbarian training gets lonely

Your rates are too low. I can consistently surpass 50k xp/hr at Barb. You're probably doing something wrong, or else it's a statistical anomaly.

Well there are possibilities:

-You're 90+ fishing, I'm 76(?)

-Ibis timer froze or something? Happens a lot to my terrorbirds, I was keeping track with it

-Might've been a 2-3 minute dead time since I wasn't paying too much attention. I was much more attentive during the monkfish. This is a 15 minute test, so 2-3 minutes is a long time. Probably enough to compensate for that 7k extra xp.

But that's what I got.

I get those (zaaps') rates if I'm reading forums while barb fishing.

So because he apparently knows what he's talking about he's a know it all and you're right?

I'm pretty sure barbarian rod fishing would be more efficient with that 99 rc.

WOW....thats a lot of info right there! i gave up fly fishing at shilo as it was uber boring. im getting about 35k+ xp per hour at monks with 92 fishing and granite lobster, the barbarian method sounds fast I might try that later when my brain has recovered from all the clicking ive done in recent 99s lol

thanks everyone who has contributed so far <3:
