It costs you more money to run your current healthcare bureaucracy than it would to just give free healthcare to everyone in the country. magekillr
Wow, the OP is incredibly hard to read, although I at least understood what he was trying to get across. Ralph Nader is an idiot. He might be in-line with me politically, but he's a scum-bag race baiter that will be known as the guy who called Obama an Uncle Tom, or not be remembered at all. What a pathetic face for the American progressive movement; no leadership, pure arrogance. As far as what I am politically...according to this test: http://www.politicalbrew.com/politest.cgi , I am a 0 on social issues, and a 10 on economic issues. I did not have an opinion about funding the arts, however. On this: http://www.politicalcompass.org/ , I am a -8.88 economically, and a -6.92 socially. Especially with the whole Greed being a sin and all. I used to think that too. But what I discovered, is when Jesus said stuff like give away your money ,or you can;t be saved. He meant donate some, don't hoarde it, and the times he says that, he would usually say it to someone where money meant everythign to them. But no, while the Bible stresses giving to charity and the church, it also stresses reap your rewards. If you work hard, then you should be rewarded and be able to not feel guilty about having those rewards. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Free health care being yearly check-ups and such or strictly Emergency Room visits? I shouldn't have said free. What I meant was subsidised health care. Something like Medicare as we have it here in Australia. Universal health care both in and out of hospitals, and it's reasonable to expect that consultations be free of charge as a result. No ridiculously overpriced compulsory health insurance. Although it does have its flaws and inefficiencies, it's a damn sight better than what you have in the States. It's brilliant that youngsters be interested in politics (not necessarily directed at OP), but there's too much reading and living to do before you can have any idea about yourself. Strict 'political ideology' goes strongly against an objective view of reality, politics, the world in general... There is no single solution to a country's problems, let alone the world's, no matter how much soapbox communists or right-wing capitalists wish to believe so. Every country is individual, has a different culture, history... Every country has it's own key to survival & progress. And not to offend any specific people.. But it's extremely adolescent and immature to absolutely oppose every other view than yours, and despise people who dare to have a differing opinion. The 70's are over, so are hostile propaganda politics & ideology-based politics in the western countries. It's increasingly going towards welfare of the people, tolerance of various opinions & religions, instead of cold war/DDR-age bickering.

user1991
American health care is a joke. It would actually be funny if it wasn't so tragic. @Saruman "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you." Of course, what this actually means is that Jesus supported free market capitalism as well as preventive war and interventionist foreign policy. Clearly. Hey. BlueLancer
American health care is a joke. It would actually be funny if it wasn't so tragic. The joke is on the greedy private companies that plague the health care industry. How a practicing doctor that has sworn the hippocratic medical oath of ethical practice of mecicine... Can bill minimum-wage labourers up to $300 dollars just for a check-up visit boggles my mind. These people really sleep at night? Every citizen, regardless of their wealth, should have the right to stay alive and not be refused medical attention. Sadly it's not a constitutional right to even stay alive despite the US declaration of independence claiming right to life, liberty & pursuit of happiness, it has been rejected plenty of times despite having over 100 sponsors in congress: HR 552, "Right to Life Act" http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h109-552 Right to Life Act - Declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution is vested in each human being. Defines "human being" (and "human person") to encompass all stages of life, including but not limited to the moment of fertilization or cloning. This bill never became law. This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven't passed are cleared from the books. Technically, there isn't any law that prohibits a doctor from telling a poor person with a brain tumor "pay the $1,600 for MRI brain imaging or don't come here again", because if the patient is in no imminent danger of dying, he has no legal obligation to help him.. Sad.

If you get sick in the UK, a scandinavian country, Germany, etc... It doesn't really matter if your treatment costs 50 euros or 15,000 euros. You're not going to die, and you will be treated even if you are unemployed with 3 kids. Yet those countries have much less debt than the US.
