Keyboard modification

I saw something called "Das Keyboard" a few weeks ago, and basically it was a keyboard without any letters on the keys. It costed so 80 US dollars or something though, so I didn't particularly feel like buying it. But then I figured it wouldn't be so hard to make one myself, so I dug up at an old keyboard in the cellar. I forgot to take a pic of it before I'd started working on it, but still.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's not the greatest keyboard ever, but it gets the job done. So after several hours of sandpapering:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So, why? Well, for starters, it ensures that I don't look at the letters when I'm typing which is a great way to practice to further improve typing speed. Secondly, it means no one can watch and remember keystrokes to get my passwords. A bit of paranoia never hur anyone :)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If anyone else has any spare keyboards, I'd definitely recomend trying this. It also means that the chance of an average noob using your computer is lowered :D

I dont really type that bad not looking at a keyboard. I just made it look silly for emphasis.

i can do it easily, e.g. now :P it comes in handy in class when the teacher is dicating to or if u look at the board although its pritty easy i can do wit some practice althou all this is being done with my eyes shut so i hope im still clicked in this window/

Couldn't you of poped the caps off of the keys? And 80 bucks for a keyboard is insane.

and then you're typing on the little rubber cones that are under the caps on most modern keyboards... which are held on very losely and easy to break off :wink:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

now if you were to remove them all.. and then replace them in a differen't arangement, that would confuse the hell out of alot of people 8)

i saw one of those on xplay, but i think on the das ones the keys are also weighted or something, so basically you have a keyboard with no letters, not a das keyboard:P

That baby however, is the Maltron Keyboard, ergonomically designed to give you the best typing experience, ever. If you think an $80 keyboard is expensive, just take a look at that. :P

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personally, I think it's pretty ugly and probably wouldn't be comfortable. I've used other keyboards that are shaped like that (used as in typed for a few minutes at the store when they are displayed) and never really liked them. I typed slower on them. :?

If you have a friend or a coworker who isn't the best with computers, just pop the 'N' and 'M' Key out and replace them, good fun. Also toy with the autocorrect feature in word, make 'the' become "*insert the name off your boss here* is a homo"

 

 

 

If all this isn't enough, screenshot their desktop and set the screenshot as the wallpaper, then hide all the icons on the actual desktop. *omg! my computer is frozen!* ;)

I did that last night before i finished reading this topic, then I went to bed since it was kinda late, but I switched all the keys, and I'll post a pic in a second.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Edit: I posted the pic of my keyboard (obviously). Now random noobs don't use my computer and they can't see my type my password. Well, not really, that's a mac keyboard, and I use my PC for RuneScape, but oh well, it's still cool.
