Blaze The Movie Fan
If it comes from other IP address than the one you registered you can't drop or sell or trade the stuff that are dragon or rune. Isn't that a great idea? This way hackers would have manyor problems. P.s. Please let this be my first suggestion ever that does makes sense.

qwerty4242
This wouldn't work for most Internet users since the majority of home users are on a dynamic IP address. So as soon as your ISP changes the IP on you, BANG, you can't do anything anymore.

Zonorhc
One of the main selling points of Runescape is that it's accessible from virtually anywhere. Limiting it to a few IPs will remove that incentive to play. lpinkus
I'm not sure what this idea means, so I'll agree :) Anything to prevent scamming and hacking is good. Also, it should be noted that Blaziken made a post that you guys didn't flame the stuffing out of, so congratz to all :) lpinkus
buzz
Nope, bad idea when it involves rune as its just not really rare, or worth the protection. As for it being used in conjunction with dragon items (or crystal/barrows etc) then...again, not a bad idea, but critically flawed as others have pointed out the problems with IP's being constantly changing. Hell, I've got a static IP, yet I'm on the 3rd version of it. Besides, it STILL wouldnt stop hackers in the slightest, remember, they HAVE just got your password, they would be able to add their own IP to the list, transfer the items, remove their IP. Job done. Crim_nimora
going to try the quote thing again *crosses fingers* Besides, it STILL wouldnt stop hackers in the slightest, remember, they HAVE just got your password, they would be able to add their own IP to the list, transfer the items, remove their IP. Job done. This is completely false, they cant add their IP to the list unless they have logged on, and they cant log on unless their IP is on the list. Understand now? The whole idea Blaziken had wont work though, it would complety stop hackers, but it would make some people unable to access their accounts. The whole idea Blaziken had wont work though, it would complety stop hackers, but it would make some people unable to access their accounts. You do realize of course that there would be a recovery process so that people who forget to add their new IP to the list or change ISPs can still play, right ? And guess what a hacker would use ? That same recovery process to add their own IPs to the list. And you know, instead of keylogging you, they'll send you a trojan instead. So they'll take control of your computer, access RS via it, which will look as if they are on the allowed IP. And they can add their IP to the list as well, or just go ahead and log on and take all your stuff. This idea has been beaten to death before. It doesn't work. Domovoi
Hmm when I first read it I thought it was a good idea however including everyone else's opinions I'm not entirely convinced that this would be good. This would help to stop hackers however if accessing runescape would be a pain for some people. sykobunnie
what about computer name? Runescape checks the computers name and if it is in the allow list then you may login? I have a unique computer name and it is damn hard to guess
Crim_nimora
If there was a way to add your IP without logging on then it would be completly pointless. And not many of the so called hackers on runescape can make a trojan, And you still would need to open it. This idea actually would stop hackers if it was used in this way, but then people would lose their accounts left and right. It all would depend on how it was implemented into the game. buzz
Crim, the problem with IP locking the game, is that you will need to be able to log into the website to change IP's, as if yours changes, you cant log into the game to change it. Remember, there ARE TWO log procedures, one to log into the actual game, the other to log into the webiste. Now, on thinking about this a bit more, it WOULD be doable to IP lock logging into the game, BUT, it would require you to have a seperate password for a section on the site which controls the IP lists, so essentially you would have 2 passwords. Now, For those on a static IP, this would be great, as you would just add you IP, then your account would be IP locked to your home, and even if a "hacker" got control of your main password, they would actually need both of them to be able to do anything. Unfortunatly for those on a variable IP, it wouldnt make any difference, as if they had a keylogger, you'd be able to get both passwords easily as they will be using them both every time they log into the internet (once to set their new IP) and then when they log into rs (The main account pass). Besides, you have to take into account that some people have no idea what an IP addy is, let alone how to find out their own one, it would probably limit the people who can play the game, something that Jagex would NEVER do, and it would also be a pain in the neck. Eric2203
And not many of the so called hackers on runescape can make a trojan, And you still would need to open it. They don't even make their own keyloggers, they use existing ones. They'd so the same with trojans. And if some people are stupid enough to get leylogged, they'll open the trojan too... Cru5tyPi22a
Jagex could make it optional :P So anyone who is really worried about their account and has the means to do it would be able to without messing up other people.
flaminfire
didnt read all the posts so dont know if this has been written. I used to play a game called Gunbound. They use the very same idea. You cannot access the persons items from another ip address BUT what they do to make it work on that ip address is it sends and email to your email address with a confirmation letter allowing that ip adress to access ur items. so if ur playing from another ip, all u have to do is send the email, confirm the email and it works. This stop haxxers cauz they would have to find out what ur email is and hack that to. Plus if ur email is YAhoo Gmail or aol thats pretty hard to do.
