I'm SICK of junk traders, you should be too

Featured Replies

I understand junk trading can be annoying- but its how I got my santa hat.

It was 14 mil at the time, and I had to buy 1/2 mil of willow logs. I was willing to pay up to 16 mil for it, so I was happy. That is the only experience I've ever had with it.

I ended up selling most of the willows after having it sit in the GE at lowest price for a couple months, and put quite a few of them into the party room. Go figure.

99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me!

As i say here, remove outside ge trades and the market will correct itself, don't want to sell for this price? too bad it can sit in your bank for eternity, or you can suck it up or sell it.

Congratulations, just about every high demand item in the game just became untradable.

I think Junk trading can't hurting RS as much or anything like in the same way as RWT and selling of gold did. Less people are junk trading than used to rwt. Sorry you dont like it but I think you probably are exaggerating or need a little more patience. If you hold out you will get the price you are after as long as you are reasonable.

Good point, but even though it has replaced a far more intolerable and widespread 'disease', it is still intolerable nevertheless. If there was some kind of player-controlled system which evaluates/re-evaluates prices of items which are frozen or recently created, it would be much better.

From what I've seen, prices which are un-frozen stay un-frozen. It just take a quick player consultation to get the right price from the start. I'm going to get suggestion-planning.

they can sell an elite black set to someone who doesn't have the levels for the quest or needs to complete the quests for 10 times the amount on the ge. In this case there is a demand for the product, which is much higher than the supply.

This is only possible if a person is WILLING to pay that amount.. If there we not people WILLING and ABLE to pay 15m for black elite, then people would sell it in the GE for the price it was suppose to be sold at.

Do not blame the problem of the people who get the drop and have junk to boost the price to the highest bidder... Blame the rich people who are saying they will pay 15m for it. Simple as that.

Too bad jAGex didn't make the quest a requirement for wearing it because then not every rich person would be trying to buy one and those that need it for the quest wold have an easier time getting it.

I see what you're getting to with the Grand Exchange and all, but here's how I look at it:

There is a trade boundary, but there is still a trading system. This can be compared with a controlled market economy, as opposed to a truely Laissez-Faire economy. Yes, it is a bit extreme, but it is comparable, correct?

Therefore, trades attempt to find ways, either legal or illegal to get around this boundary. Illegal would be the very small RWT which still exists, legal would be junk trading.

So while Jagex does control the economy to an extent, the players decide if the prices for an item rise or fall. Thus when players use junk trading, they are using the principles of capitalism because they are using a legal method to set the prices.

No, people would have these items and want to sell them, they would HAVE to sell at ge price, regardless of what they think its worth.

They can have a useless item they don't need, or sell at ge price, the ge will then adjust and rise or fall accordingly.

Hence, the ge would actually work the way its men't to, items wouldn't be locked up any more, and high demand items would sell.

The only reason they don't sell right now is greed, people know they can get more with junk and wont use ge, if this wasn't a possibility then the items would sell on ge.

I'm sorry, why should I be sick of junk trades? I get free junk-y stuff!

Anyway, this is just proof that Jagex cannot control the economy. The GE is supposed to limit demand on items, but it's hard to limit demand of an item short of telling people that they just can't have it. Trading will always try to get around any limits posted on it - this is the essence of capitalism.

Oh ya smartguy? The capitalism / free market system experiment was a big fat FAIL in the good old USA. Good game government bailouts. Junk trading makes jagax look incompetent for not thinking of them during the development cycle for the GE. Make all trades gold only. Issue resolved.

If jagex were to remove item for item other than gold trading then there would be even more of an uproar then there is now with junk trading.

I had a yellow party hat on ge at minimum price for 3 days and it didnt sell.

3 days is not very long in GE sorry. Now if it was 3 weeks then you could complain :P I waited for over a week to sell a visage I had as a drop in GE and it eventually sold for almost 15 mil. Yes its boring and frustrating waiting a few days, but its nice when you get your pixel money in the bank :D

Not even the GE can defeat the laws of economics. Deal with it.

No, you aren't sick of junk traders, you just want to force everyone to accept the crappy prices you offer. Becasue of the Grand Exchange, you have gotten used to the idea of jagex holding down prices, or putting in artificial floors and ceilings to benefit you, and now that we have forund a way around it you want Jag to hold your hand and save you again, at the expense of everyone else.

I hope a hacker breaks in to your pathetic account and takes every item you have.

If those who started the new quest, got it as a drop or w/e and DIDN'T drop it then you wouldn't have a need to buy it. I like to say "Oh new item I just got as a drop, lemme just drop it anyway shouldn't be useful"

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Junk trading really shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Logically speaking, junk traders are saying this:

"I will sell you your product if you buy junk with it."

Junk trading has become so widespread that it has become its own currency. Ironically, it's far from being "junk"

All junk is doing is upping the inflation of rare items. the only "problem" is that now that we have become so G.E. dependent, we have lost the skill to enter W2 and junk trade there. Seriously, people need to use the OTHER trading world too. It's driving me crazy not being able to get in there!

Ultimate ball has a point. I knew that I need two sets, but according to the placement of the armor, first thing through my mind:

"Lol, that looks like just a spare item. Like those stupid items that the game designers give you AFTER the danger." Though anyone smart enough to look at the armor's stats would see it's as god as rune except in crush and is tradeable would find that they could make some good cash.. *puts two and two together to get 15 mill*

menea_reuter.pnglinkresponsewb2.th.jpg

The GE is a form of price control forced onto a free economy, junk trading is your result. If you're sick of it, yell at Jagex until they actually change the GE price to the real street price.

120dgl.jpg
There was a time before there Grand Exchange. If you think now is bad, just think of how bad it was when people could randomly decide to change the price of an item whenever they wanted. They would say, "Hey lets bump up Santas everyone! Selling santa for 40m!!!"

Yeah, Unfortunately, that's usually how it went. I still miss those good merchanting days, specially when the money is coming to you. :shame: lmao.

Name a SINGLE problem this causes for you. For every item but 3rd age and the occasional skyrocketing item, the GE makes buying FAR handier then in the days before junk traders. On the VERY rare occasions when you can't buy the item you want in the GE, you have to hop to world 2 to buy it. Just like you used to have to for EVERY item. What's the problem?

Junk trading is for valuable items or rare items that Jagex didn't made the price high enough (One goof exemple is dragon claws, 150k first day on ge, about 50-100m street price) and for lending items.

ib7rVm.png
Junk trading is for valuable items, rare items that Jagex didn't place at a high enough value (One good example is dragon claws, which were 150k first day on the Grand Exchange, though really between 50-100m street price.), and for charging for the act of lending items.

The claws seem worthless to me, but I digress.

Jagex can not place what they consider to be a reasonable price on a new item. They have no way to tell how well it will be recieved by the general population because they do not have perfect knowledge. To establish an item at a price set so high that nobody will purchase it through the Grand Exchange would effectively ruin the said item for a goodly amount of time. Remember how hard it was to sell party hats in the Grand Exchange not so long ago? It's basic economics; I think Jagex has been doing a great job thus far.

I love to meet people; send me a pm if you see me on RuneScape! :)

I don't understand how junk trading works, so...
