Bubsa
Hey! Well, some of you might recall that I visited Africa not too long ago. I posted about it HERE Well I've been given the oppurtunity, which I'm eternally grateful for, to go back. It's practically cost me all of my savings, so I guess my Toyota Aygo is on hold :) (Again) Some of the scenes I saw last time were simply horrific. To be honest, I don't think much would have changed since I was last there. However, this time, I'll be able to see some of the plans made possible with Comic Relief and the G8 summit. Some of the C.R money is just about starting to get through. I'll be travelling to Mozambique, where I'll actually be able to sit in a meeting or two on how the money is getting spent. I'll also be doing stuff I did last time, helping with housing etc. This time, I might be able to introduce myself in one of the schools there. God I just can't wait for that. :) I guess the point of the trip, and this post actually, is enlightenment. I knew the extent of some of the places in Africa before, but actually experiencing it first hand was a real eye opener. It hit me, bloody hard, that there are people dying all around you through needless poverty. I can't explain how much I take for granted life here, which I sometimes moan about being crap, as some of you might have been unfortunate to experience. It's nothing like it is there, no where near close. To put it one horrible way, it's hell. But the people there are the most incredible you'll ever meet. It's amazing to see the resolve of them, smiling through the troubles. My Aunt-in-law was telling me (the one giving me this oppurtunity) about a woman I was helping last time. She died of AIDS last week. She seemed so happy it was unbelievable. The point I'm trying to make (trust me, I think there's one) is that if I can share my experience with you and it helps you take the tinyiest bit more care and involvement in Africa, so be it. I also hope I'll have a few nice stories to tell when I return. I leave in 7 days for 1 week. These are real people, like you and me. It's our duty to try and do something to help them, no matter how little like my contribution. I hope to go there and find that Comic Relief and the proposed G8 agreements go towards a better life for this continent and its people. If my post has any effect towards anyone wanting to get involved with Africa, then it can only be a good thing. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. oilertay
wow, that's really cool that you're doing that. My mom has gone to Rwanda ( Small country that experienced genocide in 1994 ) on missions trips multiple times, and they idea has been thrown around that we might go there for a year. It would be really cool, I hope you have a great trip :) [Admin Edit: Religious text Not permitted]~108 combat~5.9k dusties killed / dragon chain :D
Mercifull
Thats so amazing dude. Its something ive wanted to do for a long time. Ive been to the very north of Africa but never to the ones deeply affected by extreme poverty. I look forward to hearing all about it. Good luck :) Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. How2PK
Oh man, that's really awesome you got the possibility to go again! And it's even more awesome you're going! Must be pretty rough though, if you get in contact with those people and you get to know them a little, and then after a while you they've passed away. :( But I wish you the best of luck and a safe journey! Mayjest
Wish I was doing that. I'm going to Africa as well, but it's not like that. I tried desperately hard to get out of the family holiday, but my parents pulled that 'its your last one so you have to go' line. I hate going to places like that as a tourist, its not a nice feeling. How did you get involved with Comic Relief then? Oh, and spend my money wisely, I've given a fair amount to CR over the years! Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores: Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! NorthernHero
Thats really cool and unselfish. I envy you and admire you for doing that. And youre going to get so good tan too :P . I wish you best of luck in the great mama africa. :D Reality is hundreds of times more beautiful and more interesting than delusions. Fairy tales just tend to be easier to follow than the wonderful intricacies of life.
Bubsa
How did you get involved with Comic Relief then? Oh, and spend my money wisely, I've given a fair amount to CR over the years! Well, I was in the local regional paper for raising ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã470 for CR this year. For every skittle I ate, 1 by 1, my sponsors would pay 1p. I got 100 sponsors and ate 470 skittles in 20 minutes. My aunt-in-law read it in the paper, rang me up...and the rest is history I guess. :) Thanks so much for the support guys, it means a great deal. I wish you were all comin' with me! :P Hope you all get to have the chance one day too, you're pretty much the swellest bunch of people I know. More missionaries like you lot is what's gonna save lives. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

They'd rather write a 2 page article about Ethils 80th birthday than cover real issues that can make a difference. If they dont cover anything next time I email them I just wont bother trying again. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. Bubsa
I wouldn't call the Wirral Globe any better. Probably the reason my story was published was that it completed a paper. Sometimes, if there's nothing to fill, you just don't get a paper for a couple of weeks. (By the way, I live in the town next to Hoylake, Scene of next year's British Open Golf. If you're interested :P) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

More missionaries like you lot is what's gonna save lives. Crikey do you have any teeth left? :P Anyway have a good time in Africa, never been myself but IMO it is always the place where i see charity being needed the most. It's in such a terrible state but gradually, through the efforts of people like you Bubsa it's getting better. I have heard some truly horrific stories of what goes on there, stories i don't like to even think about they are so sickening. I always try and give as much as i can for charity relief efforts and this year my school raised some ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40,000 for two African charities, ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10,000 of which was raised by my year alone doing the three peaks walk (26 miles up and down and up and down and through bogs...anyone who has done it knows what i mean) to raise money. But the people are wonderful (with obvious exceptions), and have such a positive attitude it makes me realise just how much we take our lives for granted. What always hits it home for me is the thought of 30,000 children dying daily through extreme poverty. Anyway Bubsa, have a great time and i'm really looking forward to you sharing your experiences with us. Mercifull
Welcome back dude. Really want to hear about how things are going over there. Building wise and stuff. Hope you make a nice post soon. Put me to shame, ive not done anything charity wise since the G8 summit protests :-/ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape.
