Im around dead people all the time, but they are under 6 feet of dirt so its ok. the funerals are kind of odd because everyone is crying and stuff and im just standing there looking and waiting for everyone to leave to lower the coffin. i never have to see the body though, maybe that makes a difference. and summer jobs rock, youll have to do it year round eventually :D

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yeah i see what you mean, Sometimes ( or often to be honest ) ppl die at my work, Then someone has gotta take care of the body by doing some stuff, Iv'e done that 4 or 5 times ... First time was creepy:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A 84 yr female came in by ambulance; Heartstop.

 

 

 

We started CPR and injecting diffrent drugs ( adrenaline etc ) very 3rd minute, sometimes; esp on old ppl it can be VERY hard to find somewhere to put a needle. So a nurse shot down a needle ( yeah basicly it looks like a gun , wich SHOOTS the needle IN to the bone, and start giving the drugs from there. ) owell, we tryed for 17 minutes, but no response from the heart, even though we difibralated ( using difibralator ) so we turned off the EKG-machine ( shows the heartbeats from the person ) and the doctor declared her dead.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway after that me and a nurse was taking out the needles ( that didn't work) and such, Then i came to the face... The eyes were open looking at me, so i did in like a movie... i took 2 fingers and closed them and took out the oxygenemask from her nose and mouth, Okay now the needle that was shot into the leg was left, i tryed to pull it out, I tryed one more time.. it was stuck, I pulled even harder and i heard this NASTY sound from the bone like "KRSSAASH" kinda sound, and then it was out of the bone, then i draged it out of the skin and it sounded like "splat" it was nasty too... then we took her to the "desease room".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

That's a room all patients that die come to so we prepare him/her to go to the mourge (sp?). we was gonna turn her on the stomach ( she was leing on the back ) and when I pressed on the torso it sounded like she took a breath, That was VERY nasty too... owell its just a work.

I love my job. I'm a contractors assistant. Aka do nothing and take long breaks. I just started last week. Basically I drive around with a guy in a big black durango and we go to different places. I wouldn't call it work at all. I also make 9.25 an hour! Every weekday from 7:00 -3:30. Easy as it gets, and its above minimum wage. Tomorrow we're going to the military base.

Thanks, yeah it was very hard to see people die at the beginning, but; uh sounds sic to say it.. u get used to it and don't care much, not on a bad way... but u know u have to go on with the next patient...

Produce at a supermarket 40h a week. Just putting stuff up and helping people find stuff which sometimes is just a few feet away. I get to deal with cabbage. 8) Money's ok but need all I can get before next semester starts.

Sorry I say this, and please don't take it wrong, I just have some critism at your posting style of the last weeks. I've noticed that you have your word ready (in a negative way) very soon, and you try to bring up a bad intention of the post up. This is just a topic about summer jobs, don't make it something else, it isn't really necessary, just like this. It's good for nothing, it just creates a negative environment in a good topic.

2 years ago I was operating rollercoasters at a theme park for $7.25 an hour, $8.25 an hour on saturdays. I quit to go work at a grocery store closer to my home for $6.25 an hour. I quit back in March because it sucked, and now i'm jobless. I'm waiting on a call back for a job interview at McDonalds :lol: and I might start working at the funeral home my parents work at washing cars. <_< I don't care, I need like $500 to fix up my car and then I might start delivering pizzas or work at a boring retail job. :D

My take on the post too. The thing that got to me was how she (he?) said "Can anyone beat my summerjob?" like it was some sort of competition. Also, the whole comparing that patient to a movie and such got to me too.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also don't believe too much of it either. Maybe you do work in an ambulance, but I doubt you're a certified paramedic who actually does much. A 16 year old as a paramedic? I highly doubt that. I sure as hell would not want some teenager as my paramedic. A lot of what you say seems to be exaggerated too. I'm a 3rd year pre-med student right now, living with my sister who is a 2nd year med student, with both of my parents as surgeons (different types). I've had experience working in New York's largest private hospital and one of the two primary New York City public hospitals. I've worked in the ER at the public hospital, and NYC public hospitals are as crazy as they get. Still, you would not observe nearly as many deaths as you seem to be. The ER is mainly for patients who do not have the insurance to go to a private clinic or if their PCP is not currently available. It's not like the movies where only people with massive blood loss and fatal injuries go to. Most of the time, it's an infection or a broken bone or a bacteria/virus that needs a prescription medicine, something "small" like that, far from fatal. Per month, there were about 20 bullet injuries, about 15 or so potentially-fatal cases, and about 5-10 fatal cases. And this was in Manhattan, at the heart of New York City.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, the way you described that scene in the ambulance, you make it seem that you did a lot of that work by saying "we". The nurse did it, not you. Sorry, but that really bugs me. This summer, I landed a position of Research Coordinator's First Assistant and have been working in a neurology study where I have been teaching a few high school interns (around 16/17) how to work with BMIs (Brain-Machine Interface) and how to use/read them and such. All they've been doing is listening to me and pushing buttons that I tell them to. If I ever heard them passing off what I was doing as their work, they sure as hell would hear it from me. Also, I've seen hundreds of surgeries in the past few years. Just last week, I was priviliged enough to watch my second open-heart srugery. Since my sister is studying towards becoming a cardiologist, she was able to get me permission to be in the OR while one of the residents performed a surgery. What I did was take notes on the surgery for the doctor and patient to look over afterwards, in case there were any complications. The doctor spoke, and I wrote. I also organized the tools as he used them. If I wanted to make it out to be some amazing thing I did, I could be like "Yeah, so yesterday, we performed heart surgery on this guy. Everytime we tried to cut some tissue, it would go like SQUISH! It's ok though, I've done this before so I'm used to it."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm not saying you don't work in a hospital, or even in the ambulance, but I highly doubt you are a 16 year old certified paramedic. Don't know how it is over there in Sweden, but you would never be able to become one here. Plus, you say you are getting paid, and getting paid well. Maybe if you were a volunteer or an intern or something, it'd be more believable. Also, I'm sure you are exaggerating a lot of your experiences. Not saying that what you are doing isn't emotionally stressing; I'd be the first to say that a job in the medical field is, but not as much as you are making it out to be.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oh, and one more thing: "and yes, ive saved life (thank you thank you)" - that also makes it seem like you are trying to brag about this. I know you were "joking arond" when you said that, but this seems like the completely inappropriate place to kid like that. Figure you'd do something like that (if ever) once you're an accomplished doctor and you're in a medical environment with other professionals or something. To someone that is about to go to med-school, studying for her MCATS, and is looking to enter this field as a career, what you said was a real stickler.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And about the "can you beat that thing", yes I think I have beaten any month and a half experience you might have had in about the last 4 weeks. Working in the clinical research department has been awesome. I have gotten to see some pretty insane surgeries and been observing residents while they see patients. Looking to get one of the studies I am working on published in the Journal of the American Academy of Neurology by late Spring 2006 (would be my first published article for an actual medical journal :D)
