ElkNight
Is it hard? Would a person who knows basically nothing about the inside of one be able to do it? Are there any really good guides I would be able to follow? Thanks. :) 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! sloter
Its not rocket science. I would say for sure you could figure it out. It might take you longer than other sure but, you can do it.
Georgelemmons
All you really have to do is snap some stuff together. It'll take a bit to figure out a good layout, but it's pretty easy. The main thing you want to do is plan well. Make sure everything will fit in the case you buy, that the socket on the motherboard is the right kind for your processor, that your power supply will be enough, and that you have enough expansion slots/ports on the motherboard for all of the components. Actually putting it together is often the easy part. Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <
ElkNight
Ah, thanks for the advice guys. I still need some more money before I can even think about trying. Also what would it cost (rough estimate is fine) to build one that could play basically all the newest games? Nadril
If you're decent with following directions and paying attention it's not a hard process to do. Ah, thanks for the advice guys. I still need some more money before I can even think about trying. Also what would it cost (rough estimate is fine) to build one that could play basically all the newest games? (not including monitor, keyboard, mouse) Well, If you look at the build that I just did for my younger brother, 9800GT Intel Core2duo @ 3.16ghz CORSAIR 6GB DDR2 800mhz RAM 550W Thermaltank PSU Thermaltank Case Western Digital 1TB hard drive Windows Vista 64 bit OEM it cost us around $650-$700 to do the entire thing. It's capable of playing any game out there on all high settings right now. Of course if you want to spend a little more you can get a bit better machine as well. For another $100 you can pick up an HD4870 video card, and then maybe upgrade the PSU instead to a 650W or so. That would give you a decent bit of future proofing, and the HD4870 is a crazy powerful card. Also, Overclocking is a great way to get some more bang for your buck. You can turn that 3.16ghz into a 3.8ghz with the right heatsink.
OldJoe
Nein, 500/550w 80+ (good brand) and 4870/260 is perfect. 650w and cf/sli perhaps... ElkNight
Thanks for all the responses guys. I'll look into it even more. :D Oh and will I be able to buy all the parts from one site (Such as Newegg)? Or will I have to use several sites? >_< Sorry for so many questions. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! pryomancer
Building a pc and replacing parts is really easy, it's all a case of just taking something out and putting in a new one. Just make sure to pick up stuff like ram, video cards etc (stuff with a circuit board) by the sides so you don't accidentally break the parts on it. Also get a static wristband thing, or what I do is just touch the inside of the metal case to discharge all the static from my body.
OldJoe
You need a socket 775 motherboard, get DDR2 instead of 3, the difference in speed is not worth the price. And why such a big case? Are you planning on putting 500 hd's in it? Antec 300 is a good alternative, extremely price-worthy. You can also get a 4830 for a lower price than that 9800gt, and performs a little bit better. For 144$ you can get a 4850 (125 after rebate)... You can get a 650w corsair psu for the same price if you plan on getting a stronger card later on and more hd's... I guess it depends on what "style" you like, i personally don't like such glowing cases. But by the looks of it it seems to be quite price-worthy. It comes with a psu, but don't use it for this sort of build. Google the name of it and check if there's a review of it. Ask someone else about the mouse/keyboard. Hawks
Logitech generally has high quality products- if you want the gaming keyboard and the mouse and have the money for it, I'd say buy it. Both are quite nice and comparitively speaking (on the keyboard) it's relatively cheaper than similar products... ElkNight
Okay, my dad is thinking about it now. But he told me to find the Dell computer closest to the one I'm planning on building and show him the compared prices. If anyone could check to see which one is closest (I'm gonna try myself but some verification would be nice) Edit: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/services/xpsdt/630_DXDWCT4?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs I think this would be the closest, almost double the price. Hopefully that will convince him. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! Nadril
Yup, it's the closest. When I put it to a 1TB of HD space and another 2GB of RAM it jumped to $1,400.
ElkNight
Again, thanks a lot guys. I think my dad will let me go for it, just gotta email my uncle that's good with computers and have him look over it. :D Thanks. Edit: Hrmm weird, my uncle said custom built computers were usually more expensive, that contradicts what I've heard so far. :?
