Pawn
Well, I just got an two days ago, but I only read it today. I really can't believe that these phishing letters really exist, all this time I just thought it was just some far-fetched story. When I received the e-mail I had no clue at all how my E-mail even got there. So I obviously did not click on the link, but I did however click on to see who this was sent to, and to my surprise it was sent to exactly 16,449 people. Just goes to show you how much some people want your account to sell xD. Can anyone else believe it was sent to 16K people?! On a side note, does anyone know how to report phishing through gmail? Smapla
That's obviously spam mail...nothing really RuneScape related... one out of two... just tag it as spam so that any future emails that look like that will be handled by the gmail filter better. laucha
Spammers can obtain your email address by simply looking through a chain letter contact list. that could be the way they obtained your address. as for reporting phishing read this http://txpress.blogspot.com/2007/03/how ... il-in.html

mario_sunny
Usually you can find at least one obvious spelling/grammar mistake in the message, which jagex would never do (they use a spell checker every time, and I'm sure read over and revise all their messages/update announcements). This message fails to contain an error but it is still very suspicious. Just the way it is worded... I have never heard any Jagex mod talk like that. All the update announcements have a certain wording to them, and that message just doesn't fit. Oh and also I don't think a Runescape high definition 2 beta exists yet. ;) I know it's obvious this is a scam, but for all those newbies out there: JAGEX WILL NEVER EMAIL YOU, ONLY CONTACT YOU INGAME VIA THE RUNESCAPE WEBSITE MESSAGING SYSTEM. By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( . Obviously I can't offer any sort of proof about my personal accounts (photoshop is too common nowdays :P ) but I was expecting people to ask for sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spam A very complete article on spam, best I've found on teh internetz. A few quotes: The total volume of spam (over 100 billion emails per day as of April 2008) has leveled off slightly in recent years, and is no longer growing exponentially By June 2008 96.5% of e-mail received by businesses was spam.[19] Further investigation reveals that that statement comes from http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2008/07/dirtydozjul08.html The 'Bill Gates' fact came from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4023667.stm However, I have heard that BBC messed up and it was supposed to be 'per year', not 'per day'. Not positive on that one. Any other sources you want to know? Canis Rufus
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos in January, Mr Gates predicted that technology would make spam "a thing of the past" within two years. Wow, no span in 2 years? cool! Although.... what's the date of this article? Thursday, 18 November, 2004   Another one of Mr Gates statements on par with his declaration "256k of RAM should be enough for anyone!"
