Jagex's 2008 Finances (includes graphs)

Best part of this post is it proves without a shadow of a doubt that advertising does not contribute much to the profits and therefore the running of the game. Great ammunition for f2p v p2p debates.

We already knew that. F2p runs on advert money and more or less breaks even.

It's always interesting to see these things, and I'm glad Jagex is still on the rise in terms of profits, even when they have done huge projects like RSHD and FunOrb, as well as a large increase in staff. Things are looking good.

The first argument f2p'rs make when they want more stuff is "I see adverts and that should pay for my updates!". This graph clearly shows it isn't the case. The wise amongst us have known for a long time that f2p'rs generate very little of Jagex's cash, it's the less wise that this can be used to show.

The thing I don't understand about businessmen is they always sell off so much of their company to different share holders. If I started a company I'd want to keep 70% of the shares for myself.

I know 51% should be enough to ensure keeping the majority of the shares(51% because you might get cocky and only have 49% because no one else has anywhere near that much, but then someone comes along and buys up everyone elses shares and then you don't even control your own company any more!). But still, there should be more pride.. -.-

EDIT: First relevant post ftw!

Going public and allowing people to invest in your company means you have money coming from a different source other than yourself, them. When they buy stock, you get the money. The idea is they invest in a company they think will rise and become better, and eventually they'll be able to withdraw more money than they invested.

Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem..

Who's Ian Gower? Their little brother who got left out of the picture haha?

Rob Law (who made the Romeo and Juliet quest amongst other early contributions) once referred to Ian and Paul as part of Andrew's "team of brothers", but some old RuneScape fansites say Ian is his cousin. Ian did some early graphics for RuneScape and did some of the quest conversion for RuneScape 2.
