  1. It is kind of nice to see that instead of letting content get built up by months or even years of speculation they are playing the "Big" things close to the chest. Not to say that things like the diaries talk about are not big but they are only a fraction of what there is coming, like an iceberg. I am happy to see that F2P has dropped it's status as a billboard for how great membership is and has returned to the way it was (by being able to build myself there and do the many things I loved without the pressure of "you need to be a member" for anything but those pesky gates it helped me make the original transition to becoming a member so many years ago.) I am glad they found someone with an interest in the game more from a player standpoint then from that of a CEO. Profits are only nice when they are used to create better content and create it fast enough for the players to never catch up not when they are just thrown around to make the game bigger. All in all I am most happy they are not going to follow the path of live content editing like they did with summoning. The skill itself is decent in many aspects but it has been so tarnished by the wave of "oh this is not right (yes yes nothing is perfect and there will always be someone to find cracks but everyone knows that release was a huge flop.) Last thought! Anyone else happy they are admitting that RS was built on a viral status instead of the mass marketing that other MMO's use? CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT PART!!
  2. First off Sort of tells you you will need that blasted ring, I mean seriously was ANYTHING else from that quest useful beside the QP? Now why are there so many whiners that are upset about the quest being low to mid level? it happens. They are obviously building up to an even grander WGS style event that will encompass EVERY plot that involves the Maj, Zaros, Zam, and the God Wars. Give it time, things have to fit into place before you can do anything. Now yes there is that facepalm moment and all I can say is. Dear Jagex, There are many times the dialogue changes depending on what my character has done. Please fix this for future questers that have enough to know that Zaros is the true dark one. Sincerely, OWD And honestly now... We have known of this Zaros character since Dig Site. Jagex might not have known where they were going with him then but GOOD GOD WE ALL KNOW NOW! I am very happy BTW that he actually got some real air time and was not lost to the "oh that was just some idiot in a bear mask" scenario.
  3. I don't think you quite understand the problem so I will try to explain it better. My old hard drive failed. I had all of my documents backed up and even was able to transfer them to a new harddrive without the backup. After re-installing the needed programs. (Office, Photoshop, Firefox, etc.) I attempted to reinstall Java. After I installed Java to the new drive I had to restart the PC because of all of the installs/Microsoft updates. When the computer booted up I attempted to access my RS account only to be told I needed to install Java. When I look in the control panel there is a "Java" icon and the Add/Remove window lists Java v6.13 or what ever the newest is BUT! the program files folder is now missing the entire Java folder disabling access to any of it. When I try to remove Java it tries to access the missing folder and when it can't, instead of deleting itself it just states "Fatal Error" and closes the uninstall request. If I try to reinstall Java from an install file both online and offline it tells me Java is already there but it cannot over wright the file so I can not reinstall.
  4. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I recently replaced a bad HDD and in the process lost everything but files and folders. After I reinstalled Java and restarted my computer for a few other installations I tried to open RS in standard def which lagged my browser to the near point of freezing for a good 5 minutes. I thought it might have been a bad install so I removed Java and tried to install a lower version (started with update 13 tried update 12) even after trying everything I can think of though when I try to install any version it says there is already Java installed and to remove it first. On my add/remove it still lists Java but there is no folder in my program files for Java so when I try to remove it again it says "fatal error install file not found" but still keeps me from loading ANY version of Java... :( This is kind of killing my RS buzz... I need my fix. Any ideas?
  5. I don't remember an exact level but from personal experience I became a member when I exhausted quest options by finishing Dragon Slayer and decided I wanted some new goals wot work for. (and then when I came back simply to actually be able to use the hundreds of members items I had.) Really the only factor to when an f2p should become p2p is when they feel ready for it. I know that is an unpopular notion because so many people get membership a few days after creating an account and are extreeeeeeeeeemely annoying with some of their questions or spamming. But Truthfully only the person who made the account has any idea when they should make that leap.
  6. The thing is all the skills are 99. To raise the limit of one would mean raising the limit of them all. Now yes in the distant future when (and if) RS5 or RS10 comes about the skill limits were increased to 999 at something like 2 trillion xp but until then it's just a dream. At most they just need to introduce better armor. Then again they also need to recalibrate the combat triangle though that's a debate all its own.
  7. In case you didn't notice, you're not going to get to rest anywhere. You have to go to a spot where a bard is playing music, and listen to the music while your energy restores. This means you might not get to restore run in SC (oh, but in case you didn't know using the altars in SC heal your energy as well and hp and prayer) or near agility courses. It's up to jage where they put these musicians. This update could be a total bust. It depends on how they really implement it. We don't have real details yet like locations or how much energy will be restored so we can't say at the moment. He said that the benches idea wouldn't work and that that part of it was scrapped in favor of bards. Nothing is said about dropping the rest anywhere function.[/hide] If you can rest anywhere then what the hell is the purpose of bards? Let's think here. OK lets think. Lets call the restoration while walking a value of 1. Now to rest will either be valued 2 or 3 times 1. Which means that when you rest you gain back double or triple speed. Now resting and relaxing with a bard will offer even more than simple resting and thus more than walking anywhere from 3 to 6 Which means it can be anywhere from 3 times what you gain walking, double what you gain resting, or more than double what you gain. Simple math really Walking 1 x 1 = 1 Resting 1 x 2 = 2 or 1 x 3 = 3 Barding 2 x 2 = 4 or 1 x 5 = 5 or 2 x 3 = 6
  8. OK very interesting update indeed except for one thing. They already took this feature out of the game when RS2 became RS Prime. Anyone here know what I am talking about? Run energy = Fatigue (though reversed and not tied to every little thing) Bards/Rest = Sleeping bags... that we don't have to fill an inventory slot with
  9. Attention pl0x? As I see it, this "topic" really has no discussion value. I've lost that much before, and I made it back in a matter of a week or two, maybe less. But if you want to quit, GL IRL. Did you bother to understand the words as they grew into sentences to convey a greater meaning? The post specifically was not about gaining pity of any kind in fact it was more the opposite it's more a question of why he would not even want the pity and is just apathetic to the situation. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM AT ITS FINEST! [/hide]You think because a game doesn't give you any enjoyment or grief there is something wrong with you? No, your getting older, maturing, you've grown out of Runescape, you already stated that. So it seems like you want to get happy and angry at the game again but can't figure out how. Why didn't you just ask that in the first place? Normally people ask a question, then give details about the situation, not ask in the middle of explaining the situation. ~ Captainkidd All I can say is, very nice.
  10. I say take a break. I stepped away for two or three years due to school and when I came back there was three new skills, skill capes, 20+ new quests, and shortly after a fourth new skill. Even a few months of not logging in or watching the homepage should render you with a sense of excitment when you come back.
  11. This is nice, got a few charms, my q cape back, and it seems the yeti's drop clue scrolls.
  12. which is why, if I am having a bad day, when I am asked that question I hold off long enough to check out their highscore stats and make the offering of "12 levels above you" etc. The braggers call me a liar and the real conversationalists laugh it off (like 90% of he time).
  13. But they have promised four updates a month. In your time they did not. There is a difference. NO! RuneScape under The old CEO Geoff Iddison "promised" 4 Updates a month. All Mark Gerhard (who BTW has his own Wikipedia page now :? ) has "promised" was a more openness, more quality not quantity updates, and no BTS. Oh and Less dumbing it down for the kiddies. It is completely his and the boards choice to follow Iddison's plans or not.
  14. lol I did this for political science class a few years ago... my views have changed some since then it seems...
  15. Because it is a milestone it's like saying that RS turning 5 or 10 years old would not be important. Plus they told us they wanted to have something special. Heck they brought out a hoodie for it. 150 had to be special because of prior commitments. Just as everyone assumes there is an Easter event, a Halloween event, and a Christmas event. They have set themselves in the position and therefore are required to follow through. So if they didn't hype it, it didn't have to be special. As I don't find 150 quests a milestone. In a way yes, but they still had precedent that the 50th of the set (each set being 50 quests) would be something special, memorable, and difficult for the active community. And yes it is somewhat a milestone. Quests are not out daily or weekly. Look at the time between RFD and TCC coming out. OR between Legends and RFD the legends guild existed in RS1/RSC for goodness sake.
  16. TO EVERYONE ELSE Yes the constant flow of updates is missed but honestly they just cannot put out updates every week, everyone knows that. You can't please all of the people all of the time, as the saying goes, the closest they ever touched on that was with summoning; that lasted 2 hours before the majority finished the quest. Really yes it was a disappointment and such, but now we know a few things we did not before: -They are/were working on an epic (most likely to be Grandmaster Ranked) quest. -They HAD 1 quest they were working on (I am assuming it was this) to be number 152. -They had another quest finished (lets assume it was the holiday quest since those are allowed to be disappointing) All in all that makes 3 quests that were being worked on that we know about. If we really think about it there are more teams so unless some were tapped for the big project there could be another 1 or 2 in the works as well. And don't forget the coding teams for the general updates and such. There are also those out there that say "they made a hoodie this proves they were weeks off course." No this means they were 2-3 days away from the update. This means they were sitting around on Saturday or Sunday and said "there is no way this can be finished by Thursday." and cobbled together something. I saw the hoodie the "150" was the only real part, the other image looked cobbled together and rushed to a printer to make ONE (don't forget they had a "won't ship until x date" listed on it.) So really in all likelyhood they had planned a nice hoodie for the real 150 and had to wipe the back and paste on an image of Zanik/The Goblin Priest in the bandy shell (even the banner was sub-par to their normal stuff). Look I was disappointed too, yes I liked the story but it was something that could have waited. Maybe what they should have done was just be honest "Hey everyone here is Quest #151, #150 is still in the works please let us have a freebie on this one. We're sorry." And FYI does anyone even know the significance of the 17th of march? it was the 5 year anniversary of RS1 becoming RS Classic and RS 2 moving from beta and becoming RS Prime. It also means January 4th meant RS was 8 years old (public time) and in 2011 it will reach a 10 year milestone. Something few MMO's have with any significant popularity and regular updating.
  17. Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what they're doing. This is an upgrade year therefore there will be more upgrading rather than new content. Why does everyone have the want to have new high level massive content out every single week? And even then they're not happy with it >.< We have LOTS of content as it is and Jagex are just trying to sort out all the things people have been whining about for the last... forever. They shouldn't be forced to put out content on a strict shedule, it makes bad and buggy updates. That's why they got rid of the BTS because it putting too put pressure on. Even when the BTS is gone it STILL seems like people are demanding content to be out on time, only now they have no clue about what and when it's supposed to come out. Just because it is the year of upgrades does not mean they are going to completely drop new content now yes some people are being over anxious about it but the fact is they have somewhat dropped the ball with only the updates that were mildly needed (minus the jog back glitch that just happened that shut up an entire generation of whiners). Do you even know why it is the year of updates? There is a simple explanation really. As of today it has been 5 years and 3 days since RS2 became RS Prime and RS1 became RS Classic. So while HD came and offered some new graphical options, the same basic structure has been in place for nearly twice as long as the original code (not counting MUD) In fact as of Jan 4 of 2010 It will basically mean RS2 has been the dominate form for twice as long as it's predecessor. Now BTS was dropped because it created far too much anxiety in people. They were trying to promise some content that looked bigger then it was to keep people fed but all it did was force them to an arbitrary time line that people held them to religiously. BTS had it's good points as well, it did make players feel more informed but really it still did more damage then good. In either case if you go back and look at the BTS 2009 The "Year of updates" was promised under the old regime which does not necessarily mean that the new CEO, while he has thus far, intends to keep the idea alive.
  18. XP item or snaps. The only other time was addy bars when I was collecting them for a project.
  19. I am only mildly disappointed by "150" but more with how they handled the rewards. I am glad to know this was not the "epic quest with balance and coding issues" that had been mentioned in another Mod MMG quote somewhere here. And really is the C-bow that bad? it has a reasonable special for the effort of the quest.
  20. I said something a while ago about supporting this on the RSOF and for the most part I did and still do. Yes there are many things I disagree with but there are still many flaws here I would like to see fixed. And to the people that want the skill list fixed I think someone found if we cut the scroll bar out and reduce the width by 2-5% from the skill squares there would be enough room for 1 or 2 more skills at the bottom of the list with no scroll bar.
  21. I have been kind of on the fence about this. On one side I am happy they now have the chance to make quality over quantity. I would love for 150 to come out and be epic. Heck I hope from the pit of my soul that 150 ties together half of the two dozen plots we have (does anyone even remember that the king of Ardy wanted to invade cammy?) and I have plenty of ideas how they could tie the plots. But really this does look more like a "I miss BTS" posts. Not without BTs (which was not all that heart breaking) we have all lost something that made us feel appreciated as customers; transparency and communication. Eventually this will be fixed with the use of dev diaries but it is still heart breaking to check the news every morning and see nothing new. :? I suggest making or supporting an RSOF post about pressing them to get the ball rolling on the new forms of customer communication they talked about.
  22. Lol seems there are quite a few of us quest minded "a 99 is ok but not so great" type of people. I always saw the Quest cape as the most honorable of the capes followed by the skills that can't be bought (ex: slayer, fishing, woodcut, mining, and summoning to a lesser extent.) Of course they are not completely comparable but they still have some mirror of each other. I was very proud of my Quest cape the first time I got it (As a First Resort... was my "last" quest) and actually I perform the emote in Ardy square (it's sort of my home city) after every new quest to show I have re-earned it. Back before any of the capes came (like way back in '05-'06) I wore my Legends cape with the same pride I wear my quest cape now.
  23. Happened to me today while I was WCing. Not really a bother since I was paying enough attention I have trained myself to type in my password and slam enter before I even notice (has caused me troubles before since my gmail ID is very similar). And I know it was not the timer log out since I had just clicked a new tree 30 seconds before.
  24. If you have the money/need you can plant a few basic bushes in your POH gardens. My friend did that and gained his first 5 or 10 levels in a matter of minutes but it is relatively expensive. But in truth the best XP possible at a low level is to use the following technique: 1. Use 28 summoning to create a compost mound and scrolls. 2a. (Optional) Buy compost potions from the GE. 2b. Store 31 buckets with a leprechaun and hold onto 27 (summoning the mound and 1 slot for scrolls, less if you have a potion). 3. Go to an Allotment and use the mounds power on the compost bin. 4. Open bin and if you bought it use the compost potion on it. 5. Empty the bin and store the compost/super compost with the lep swapping for new buckets. 6. Repeat steps 3-5 as desired and steps 2a and b as needed.
  25. I really hate it when people try to stir the post. You play the way you want. I personally enjoy farming.. or did until I got to the level I wanted. Still I have always hated high combat lvl people that try to push players around because of combat and skill totals. It is very annoying when a 130+ crashes an otherwise balanced area (such as only 2 or 3 people never waiting for a spawn) and forces someone out just because they feel they deserve it more (this is why I hate most rangers actually.)
