Blast from the past, indeed!

Well I randomly decided to go through some of my old 3 1/2 floppy disks earlier, and stumbled across one that had no name. Curious, I popped it in (I have a USB pluggin floppy disk drive : ) and I couldn't believe what I found! On the disk were a few random documents along with a ouple of pictures. One of which happened to be a VEEERRRYYY old RSClassic picture from 2002. It excited me so much, I felt like I needed to post it:

 

 

 

 

 

 

At first I thought that it wasn't really as old as I thought it was and I must have just made a typo when I typed the date in the picture. I checked the properties for it and what do you know, it's right:

 

 

 

 

Not a clue where I could be standing on the map :lol: . After checking back with my Merchanting History *cough* click sig *cough*, I realized it was during the time I was heavily involved in my Rune 2 Hander business. According to my merchant story, rune 2 handers were about 350k each at the time so if you add in the 500,000 gp I also have in my inventory then that means I'm carrying 10.3 million+ in the picture. Not sure why there's a rune kite also in my inventory :? . Guess I just needed a kite at the time and had the smither make it for me? Your guess is as good as mine.

Ah i can still remember the first R2h i got, when they were still worth 1mil+ i was pking on my pretty awful addy pure Shr3k - who came good in the end lol think about lvl 35 maybe It was a long time before i knew how the pking system worked and i was fed up getting hit every round so got 30 defence and pked with a rune long and addy square (haha all i could afford at the time) anyway i got sucked into a trap because i was still rather naive and chased someone all the way over to Varrock (frmo dark wizzes above gob ville) went up from varrock to about level 11 and low and behold his two frieds where there, the guy i was fighting was pretty strong and the archer was very good probably had about 10 hp but all ranged lol, thought i was gonna die for sure but never did like to give up, i ran from the fight and the chap fighting me accidentally clicked on a rat, he one hit the rat and i attacked him and two hit him, like i said i wasn't much of the pker back then so i just started leftying the pile instead of picking the good stuff so naturally i got some bones, rat meat monks robe a refill on food and the like.... By this time i'd been attacked by the other guy who was also pretty strong think he was a steel pure but think he only had a rune long and i was still grabbing food from pile... This went on for a while and i couldn't get the shiny blue thing i could see on the floor but not when i right clicked.. The minute went and the stuff appeared, then the ranger ran over and grabbed the shiny blue thing just as my 3 rounds were up, i left combat healed and attacked ranger and three hit him (he really was a range pure lol, 3 hitting from full as an addy pure with rune long? :)) and this time i did get the 2h, i couldn't believe my eyes, my heart was pounding and i was almost shaking, the guy attacking me just gave up and ran away, don't know why i guess he only had a rune long to lose at most but he ran off... I was scared cause i knew i had to come down through varrock or even worse go around which left me at a higher level.. I was panicking the entire time and eventually got down to edge.. This explains how naive i was to the game that i actually logged out to make sure it was ''saved'' i was still shaking even though i was safe... Then i decided to go and try using the 2h on my next run out with Shr3k (who's a fool lol?) i ran to about edge level 2, realised i hadn't healed from the last fight? OMG!? got red barred and somehow amazingly survived (thankyou 30 def haha).. Soon after the 2h got passed over to adx to never be risked on Shr3k again haha

 

 

 

The sad part is after i'd pked 10+ 2h's they'd sorta decreased in price as it was adx i was pking on then and it was enevr the same sort of feeling, i only got that feeling again when i pked a drag med a couple of times and when i killed a major enemy, it would have been nice had there been some sort of economy control from Jagex to keep that special feeling going for everyone, the strange difference was that when 2h's were worth millions people used them.. Jagex should have introduced the dragon 2h as opposed to med and shield because people would have used the drag 2h to gain the advantage in a fight where the med and square were next to useless.. If drag 2h's had been 5+ million i'da used it to pk with.. I only really used my drag med/sqr when people weren't fighting me and i was trying to entice them but would normally remain in full rune.. like i said i think had it been the weapon plenty of people would have used.

Indeed, however i still say that the blame lies at the feet of Jagex, they could have changed it had they put a Dragon 2h in shops (in the same fashion as Baxe and Long) for i don't know 1-2 mil pkers would have then been able to sell for 900-1800k not to mention the fact they would have been taking GP out of the game in huge amounts whilst at the same time keeping pking exciting and worthwhile (towards the end i think i was spending more on pking than receiving back, at least p2p anyway, though i will say a large part of that was the mage wall) it always seemed to me to be a pretty easy solution, ignorance or arrogance.. I don't know what prevented them doing it

 

 

 

I remember speaking with Paul after they released god spells and Bloods tripled in value, i suggested that they make a new type of rune ''god rune'' or whatever they wanted to call it lol :) and sell them in shops (slow spawn of course) - Takes money out of the game and keeps bloods well priced for wave spells.. This was blatantly ignored, though he couldn't give any particular reason as to why - Think i've still got chat logs somewhere lol, odd that i could speak with him as a mute lol :P What a fool he musta looked like responding to no-one :lol:

When bluerose was able to smith r2h's and such, she still maintained the market value of all rune items what were not orginally available yet in game. However, as Fook had said, Mus did indeed ruin it by selling them a huge under price value I forget the exact price, but I remember being able to contact him very easily and getting about 8 or 9 smithed (which then that's big compared to before). Bluerose I probably had contacted her maybe once to get myself a kite and baxe at the time they were hard to get, but never did I intent on losing that :ohnoes: Bluerose, although many may hate her for some reason, was smart in the marketing area. Mus was just looking to buy himself levels I believe, in which I think he did, but he couldn't buy himself pking skills :shame:

As Fook said, it was Musashi that started the 2hand price plummit. Not only was it because of us undercut(s), but it was also do to the free smithing he began offering. With Bluerose, she didn't initially offer any free smithing to the public. Mostly just with friends and the occasional random person I would imagine. But with Musashi, as long as you could get a hold of him & had the supplies, you had yourself some rune items. Eventually more people climb the smithing hiscores to 99 and also began offering free smithing which resulted in even lower prices.

 

 

 

As my Merchant Story said, I was using mostly Yankeeyank1 and Whitemagem for my smithing needs. I wish I could remember the entire list of 99 smiths at the time our (Britches and I) 2hand business started. I know Bluerose13x, Musashi22, Yankeeyank1, and Whitemagem were at the time... but who else?

And running him out of axes and pirates lol. However, when he ran around with his weakeners, rangers, and other pkers he would attack me. He ran on a t1 connection though I remember.

Hahaha now I remember that little crew of his. Yeah Wild loved the logout button. She would come in when I was on giants trying to level prayer when I was with like 5 logs and weaken me and chase me out then I came back and she logged when I seen her. Some people are just that scared of losing full rune I guess.

Just finished reading the story from your signature, it's great to read stories like this and get a few memories back. I started playing RuneScape a few weeks before RuneScape 2 was released out of the beta. So I don't have many memories of RuneScape Classic. One of my only memories is training tirelessly for 40 attack. Once I got it I couldn't afford a rune weapon, and never ended up having one in Classic. It's amazing to see how someone could have so many : Nice find of the picture as well.
