Membership - How should it expire?

Hmmm... I have actually thought about it :) .

I agree that there should be different method , but I disagree with your timer idea.

I would rather like for a day to count down only if you were actually logged in and playing on that day, no matter the playing time. So if you skip a day, you can return to it later ::' .

That sounds good. Wish it was like that.

I meant, why would it weed out the immature players?

Younger your are, less likely you can pay.

Anyway, I view it as a good idea for another reason: more money for jagex = exponentially more updates for us. There's so many people devoted to CS compared to updates that an increase in money and decrease in subscriber base would give them a huge jump in revenue for updates\bug testing.

Or maybe it would just weed out all us poorer players?

I'm sure middle class folks would like that though.

I was thinking along the same lines that compfreak is. It would mean more money for Jagex to better develop gameplay and the more serious players wouldn't mind paying a bit more, but if a kid has his parents footing the bill for membership, they might not keep that up if the rates double or triple. And for the "middle class folks" if an extra $5 or $10 would send you spiraling into debt, maybe you shouldn't be paying the $5 now.

Strong motivation for me not to log in a few minutes to check up on friends\GE\once a day things, or play on the days I don't have much time - and eventually quit. Bad business decision.

Dry streak records: Saradomin 412 kills Bandos 988 kills Spirit Mages 633 kills - Slayer Sucks

I totally support it should count in hours, but, put yourself in their situation, would you do it? WAY less profit for the company

It still takes time to find, hire and get a bunch of talented videogame developers accustomed to their jobs. That makes the increase in the speed at which content is added into the game a gradual one. A big raise in the subscription fees would make customers want a big jump in that speed. I think gradually raising the price (10-20% annual increase in subscription fees) is a better idea if Jagex wishes to make more money per customer.

Also, I don't think Jagex customer service is too big. There is still a lot of players for each customer service person and even things like ban appeals still seem to be read by bots (or people with way too little time to read them) every now and then. Customer service personnel is also cheap and easy to get when compared to good game developers. I think Jagex could use more money on marketing instead of hiring customer support people, though. The only way I ever heard about RS was via other people.

Edit: On the topic:

It's pretty difficult to tell what would happen if there were more payment options, so I wouldn't go fixing something that isn't broken. I'm guessing mothly fees is a good way of raking in money in the internet because ISPs and most succesful MMORPGs use it. I would personally appreciate a "one month only" option, but I don't think Jagex would get any richer if they added one.

Rao.png

raising prices might hurt rs quite a bit, at 15$ a month people are likely to migrate to other mmos, part of rs's appeal is that it is cheap

Orthodoxy is unconciousness

the only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

If you ask me, the billing system has worked fine for years and still does.

Leave it as it is.

it should expire like normal, but say you're away and you left a bunch of items in your inventory. I think jagex should allowed 1-2 member log ins, so members can put items in their bank.

I disagree. Some people (like me) play a lot more than others on any given day. I would not want my $5 to expire before I got my full month's worth out of it.

That is true. A month, regardless of play time is the way to go.

Unless maybe they did it so a month is measured in hours. 1 day is 24 hours. So it wouldn't be possible to play more, cuz you cant play 25 hours in 1 day..

Paying for membership is analogous to paying your cable bill; even if you don't touch your cable for a full month, you can bet your bottom dollar that it won't be on if you don't pay up.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

No.

You don't get 30 days worth of membership, you get 30 days from activation to use members features.

Why in God's name would Jagex destroy their income from p2p in order to satisfy the cheap and the kiddies who consider five dollars to be of some great amount? I'm a college student owing about 30 thousand dollars in loans, and five dollars still isn't a bank breaker.

Oh and it's not Jagex's job to make up for the fact that you can't ask simple questions and be prepared for things like vacation trips.

30 days worth times 24 hours a day gives you 720 hours. Assuming you play three hours a day, it would take you 240 days to use up your membership. 240 days is about 8 months, so by paying five dollars you would be depriving Jagex of seven months worth of membership.

This goes on the selfish-to-a-pathetic-extent shelf, next to free 99's, free party hats, and everything in members being free.

This pretty much smashes the argument to pieces.

Jagex wouldn't make money.

It's as simple as that.

i think its good the way it is.

Pureprayer, you're awesome.

It would be nice, but it would cause them to go bankrupt very quickely.

$5 would buy you 720 hours of gameplay. If you play 3 hours a day, it would be 240 days of membership!

Either how it is now or if you don't log on at all, it doesn't count as a day. If you're on for as long as it takes to check the ge and that's it, you'd still have used the day.

That being said, the way it is now works well.
