Progressive metal veterans Dream Theater have set "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" as the title of their tenth studio album, due on June 23 via Roadrunner Records. In addition to the standard-version CD, the effort will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc, special-edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

Six weeks prior to the June 23 street date, Roadrunner will release one cover song per week through digital retailers.

Dream Theater commenced work on "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" the band's second for Roadrunner, following up 2007's "Systematic Chaos" in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again at the helm as producers, while Paul Northfield mixed the record.

"Black Clouds & Silver Linings" track listing:

01. A Nightmare to Remember

02. A Rite of Passage

03. Wither

04. The Shattered Fortress

05. The Best of Times

06. The Count of Tuscany

A video for the first single, "A Rite of Passage", will be shot in late March.

Mike Portnoy played a one-minute "teaser" for the band's forthcoming album on the February 27, 2009 edition of Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM.

Portnoy previously stated about the upcoming CD, "Imagine a Dream Theater album with 'A Change Of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning To Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'... all on one album... COULD YOU HANDLE IT?? Excited? I sure am!!!!"

The band will embark on a world tour in support of the album beginning in Europe throughout June which will be followed by the second edition of the bands "Progressive Nation" tour featuring Zappa Plays Zappa, Pain of Salvation and Beardfish throughout North America in July/August.

Yay.

BR BR BR? HUEHUEHEUEHUE

Sounded pretty much like any other album of theirs. Yawn.

It sounds great, I'm guessing it is going to be better than Systematic Chaos

The only Dream Theater album worth listening to is Images and Words. All the rest are terrible, except maybe for Awake.

Boring. Widdlywoodly solos everywhere.

Double boring. It's a Muse album.

As i am and Pull me under are probably the only songs I like by them, I find the guy with the glasses' voice pretty irritating.

Though I agree on Octavarium being bad, does that mean you dislike Muse?

Are you just saying that this album is gonna be their best one? Where are you basing that off of?

...Well I'm excited.

Somebody should bomb their studio when they are recording.

I mean...to never hear something again from Dream Theater, that's what everybody wants. Right?

Not really fixed. I didn't mind TOT unlike just about every DT fan here.

Are you just saying that this album is gonna be their best one? Where are you basing that off of?

Nope because I rarely judge anything without giving it a good listen. I was guessing that the latest DT album is going to be better than Systematic Chaos (Its a good album, but I felt kinda disappointed after Prophets of War).

Btw, SilverSword, if you can find a better way to share your thoughts on DT apart from "Oh Lord" and "Boring. Widdlywoodly solos everywhere.", I would like to hear it apart from useless posts. You don't see me whining anytime someone mentions Blink 182 or many death metal albums. Just suck it up and resist posting unless you got something interesting to say about DT.

I find it quite interesting that Dream Theater reeks of pretentious asshattery. They make music that teenagers who want to be good at guitar but fail to do any practice and thus fall short listen to; they seek some sort of the annoying [bleep]ery of John Petrucci. I have tried and tried again to understand Dream Theater and their music, but I simply cannot grasp how the music is interesting: interesting is not a solo that changes from 5/4 to 7/8 and cycles through A major, F# minor, E major and then back to A major; interesting is not the robotic vocals of James LaBrie (except on Images and Words, which by all counts is a decent progressive album); interesting is not writing a suite about being an alcoholic. The very definition of interesting is something that captivates you, holds your attention and provides you with some food for thought. Dream Theater is none of those.

Happy now?

Then the best solution would be not to listen to them. Let the people that like them listen to it.

First, he's told that he should come up with a more constructive post, and when he does he's basically told to shut up? Also, he never said that people shouldn't listen to them.

That's what makes these threads so goddamn trite and boring. They're rarely anything but big circlejerks - and when someone comes in and says "hey guys I don't think they're especially interesting because X, Y and Z" you... tell him to shut up. If you want brainless circlejerking, why not go to the band's messageboard and join the sheep-esque fanboyism there instead? I guarantee you there's plenty.

I guess what I'm trying to say here on a more general note, is that you shouldn't post threads pertaining to a specific genre and/or band if you can't handle differing opinions. Wait, scratch that: don't post any threads period if you can't handle differing opinions. Actually, you might just be better off staying away from forums period. You know, spare you guys all those future tantrums and all. Oh yes, I'm a giver!

1. I thought Train of Thought had some good bits, particularly Vacant/Stream of Consciousness.

2. I also liked Systematic Chaos overall, minus Dark Eternal Night and Prophets of War.

3. I think flaming because you don't like a certain type of music is [developmentally delayed]ED. Maybe I should just flame the rap thread because I don't like it?

4. I've gathered most people on this thread have liked Dream Theater at one point or another. Just sayin'.

I AM SUPER-EXCITED FOR THIS ALBUM.
