August 12, 200520 yr no order 1.) John petrucci 2.) Joe satriani 3.) Little Stevie Vai :P 4.) Randy Rhodes 5.) Jimmy Page Hendrix is overated IMO...time difference is just too great...
August 12, 200520 yr Author yes hendrix is a little over rated but he did start a new way of guitar playing and he still owns :D... steve vai is also over rated he uses lightest strings possible so doesent have to pluck for every note :D but he is still good, and yes there r a few blues but mainly metal... although i think blues has the greatest ever but maybe metal has more greats.... if u get what im talking about :D
August 12, 200520 yr Can't believe Eddie Van Halen only got one mention thus far. He's a god, and he created the techniques. Anyway: Jimi Hendrix Eddy Van Halen Jimmy Page Yngwie Malmsteen Page is bluesy rock anyway, so eat that.
August 12, 200520 yr He's a god, and he created the techniques. He didn't invent tapping, he just brought it into mainstream music.
August 12, 200520 yr He's a god, and he created the techniques. He didn't invent tapping, he just brought it into mainstream music. You're right. I think he actually said he got it from Zeppelin's Heartbreaker.
August 12, 200520 yr shesh come on anyone into blues guitariests? Derek Trucks? He's very diverse though. steve vai is also over rated he uses lightest strings possible so doesent have to pluck for every note I dunno what you're on, but Vai's picking speed is more than amazing. I'm not a fan of his music, but don't disrepect his virtuosity like that. ~witty
August 15, 200520 yr Hey Ladydeath, i like the blues just as much as the next guy but you got to be in a certain mood for it. Its just not the same otherwise IMO. SRV, Robert Johnson, Albert King, BB King, thats probably just the most wellknown. A real list might go on forever. Now about Vai, you say the strings are responsible for his speed? Well if thats the case then why doesnt every guitar player on the planet use the same strings and be faster than him? I'm not the biggest fan of his but i know he is certainly an above average player
August 15, 200520 yr Author Steve vai does use light strings... not like its a bad thing, he is amazing, and i dunno why other dont use light strings. But ppl like SRV :P, he uses the strongest strings and has double fretts, which means the the strings r higher, and the lower notes r smaller then usual so he is amazing :D
August 15, 200520 yr I can't really narrow it down. I like pretty much the guitarists from the music I listen to. The ones who stick out, though; 1. Wolf Hoffmann of ACCEPT 2. Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden 3. Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin 4. Angus Young of AC/DC 5. Randy Rhoads of many bands... Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, and probably more I don't know about.. I'm into heavy metal and classic rock, so there's tons of guitarists I like. The list above is in no particular order, and I've probably forgotten many other guitarists that rock. ;P Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane also kicks some Wagon. It really has
August 17, 200520 yr yngwie malmsteem is good too :) RSN - Ur Enemy, lvl 120 - Back in action!:)Oldest rsn: Obu86 lvl 100 :P ~Retired~ RS Since 2001
August 17, 200520 yr steve vai is also over rated he uses lightest strings possible so doesent have to pluck for every note What you're referring to is a technique called legato. It's no easier than plucking for every note. Dreaming of that face againIt's bright, and blue, and shimmeringGrinning wideAnd comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes
August 20, 200520 yr 1. Hendrix 2. Eric Clapton 3. Pete Townshend (i'm suprised more people don't have him) 4. Jimmy Paige 5. John Frusciante "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
August 20, 200520 yr Kirk Hammlett Alas, poor Yorrick, we knew him well.... Corey Beaulieu A Trivium fan, good call. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
August 21, 200520 yr Hagel̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâî - if swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me. zegt: You look Canadian. Ouch! You hoser! August 21, 200520 yr In order of best, descending: Tom Scholz of Boston Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen Rudolf Schnenker of The Scorpions Todd Rundgren for Meat Loaf, himself, etc. I can't think of a fifth really outstanding guitarist that I have heard, so I'll just stick to those four. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. I was like "i'm going to need a few more paper towels than that luv"
August 21, 200520 yr Rudolf Schnenker of The Scorpions Michael > Rudolf Dreaming of that face againIt's bright, and blue, and shimmeringGrinning wideAnd comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes
