Pitac83
Ok, so I want to do Barrows, but currently I don't really have any good melee equipment. All I have is ranging equipment. So my question is if there is any good method to range all of the Barrow Brothers. Or is there a kind of cheap melee setup that includes range and is kind of effective? That's all, thanks. Lets_3ekout
The only way to do it is with diamond bolts (e). Even with diamond bolts it's still slow killing, you're better off selling some range equip for mage. There's a guide for ranging barrows somewhere in tip it, I remember one coming out months ago. I can't seem to find the guide, it might have been lost when Tip.It upgraded to the new forums :( A Draconic Guide V1.4, Fimer - Multi-Timer Farming Timer V3.Dragon Boots: 39|Abyssal Whips: 16|Dark Bows: 1|

Pitac83
I have about 2mil left. That enough to buy the maging equipment? If it is enough, what is the equipment?
gorgoroth
Yes im pretty sure that would be sufficient. Ive seen people using Mystic robes there so with 2mill you would be fine. Might i suggest you use Slayer Darts, i heard they work really well. **Thanks to Boo_Boy666 for my amazing Singnature**[hide=Slaytanicc's Achievments]|99Cooking achieved 24Dec 2008|99Strength achieved 17Feb 2009|99Hit Points achieved 8April 2009||99Defense achieved 29May 2009|99Attack achieved 2August 2009|99Ranged achieved 14August 2009|[/hide][hide=Guides by Slaytanicc]Aviansie Maging + Ranging Guide (Must Read!!)Iron Mining + Banking GuideGreen Dragons GuideAnkou Slaying Guide[/hide]
1dhunter
I tried ranging (94 ranging, pot, void, pray and diamond (e)'s)... magic still beats ranging, even fire wave or slayer dart did:S

sk8_tolivv
Use slayer dart for the melee brothers, range Ahrim then you can either range or mage Karil. Then just use range in the tunnels.
Mischlings
This is an old picture, but it could work. Not optimal equipment, but the upgrades should be somewhat obvious. If you don't have void, Black dragonhide top (not Karil's)/Verac's Skirt/Barrows Gloves/Neitiznot helm will work instead. Use the enchanted bolts on the brothers and other bolts (I used mithril, addy work better) for kill count. If you upgrade anything, focus on high melee defence AND ranged attack -- it's a difficult balance, but it can be done. Void may or may not be better than the alternatives I suggested above. It's really up to you to test what works with your levels. Also, the ammo in the picture will last several of trips -- you don't need anywhere near that for one trip. I think I lost 20-25 diamond bolts per trip. No, it's not more efficient than maging, but it's different and can be fun. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.

KC of 8 is pretty much required for blood runes, and most people try to get a KC of around 12. You can use 6, but that's not the best. Archer helm would work if you can get that -- if not, use a barrows helm. You don't need more than one prayer potion -- you can probably tank Guthan and Torag at the least. Ahrim dies very quickly. Dharok and Verac probably require prayer. Karil can be difficult as well, but I don't remember having too much trouble with him. Feel free to ask any more questions -- I'll try to answer. Pitac83
Im guessing I would need 2 Prayer potions if I need to pray for Dharock, Karil, and Verac.
Mischlings
Black dragonhide would be ridiculously superior to void. I haven't tested it, so I can't say for sure, but I did recommend it and say that you should test them. Void worked just fine for me, but as always, Your Mileage May Vary. Im guessing I would need 2 Prayer potions if I need to pray for Dharock, Karil, and Verac. Try it; I doubt that you will, glancing at your levels, but it might be necessary. As with everything, you'll need to do some testing to find out exactly what you need. llamster
Im guessing I would need 2 Prayer potions if I need to pray for Dharock, Karil, and Verac. 2 prayer potions are good for 3-4 chest runs in a single trip; if you're doing one run per trip you need one or zero doses. All the brothers can be killed pretty quick. And the brothers you pray on are ahrim, dharok, and karil, not verac, dharok and karil. Black dragonhide would be ridiculously superior to void. I haven't tested it, so I can't say for sure, but I did recommend it and say that you should test them. Void worked just fine for me, but as always, Your Mileage May Vary. I heard the rule of thumb is if you're hit rate is 80% higher you're better off with void (probably a bit conservative; people use void against fairly high-defence monsters). At barrows you'd hit like 1 in 3 or 1 in 4. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

The way I look at it is that the majority of your hits will probably be on the spec hits, and any damage you can add there is very helpful, so the higher hits that void allows will be more helpful than the slightly boosted accuracy of normal hits. Again, I haven't tested this well enough to be able to tell the difference. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature. He once tried range barrows and he killed Dharok without diamond spec activating once. Mischlings
What about taking a holy wrench? Would it be a waste? I have 10 of them and have never used one -- the boost of 1 isn't going to help all that much, as the prayer drain at the barrows depletes your prayer too much for 1 to make a difference that anyone will notice. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.
sk8_tolivv
Don't range the melee brothers...it's a waste of bolts and takes way too long. Believe me, I have 99 Ranged and it's not efficient at all. By the looks of it you have high enough slayer to use Slayer Dart so why not use it? You will be getting basically free mage exp and be much more consistant with the hits. You don't need any melee stuff to use it and your magic bonus doesn't matter. Just get a Slayer Staff and bit of deaths and minds to start off with. Your going to lose so much more money per trip using bolts if you range all the melee brothers so I see no reason not to mage them.
JoeDaStudd
What about taking a holy wrench? Would it be a waste? There's a pretty complex calculation to work out when to use the wrench. This is my version of it. P=points restored per dose T=Total prayer potions you plan on taking D=Doses per pot If (P*D)*T<=(((P+1)*D)*(T-1)) then use the wrench. In this situation its not worth it. Its only worth taking if you use a lot of prayer pots.
