April 7, 200917 yr What stands out to me is all the really old buildings including castles and ancient landmarks from midevil times were damaged or destroyed :ohnoes: The earthquake even cracked buildings as far as Rome. Also how some guy predicted an earthquake nearby but was silenced by officials because they didn't want to alarm people. I guess its a good thing they silenced him because the people probably would have fled to the actual location of the earthquake  I'm not saying 150 people dead doesn't stand out. It does and im sorry for the families =/ Just letting people know about the other parts of this that stood out in my mind. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_italy_earthquake Commissioner of the first Tip.it fantasy baseball league
April 7, 200917 yr What's surprising about the old building being damaged more? That seems to make perfect sense. Too bad about the earthquake though. YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!
April 7, 200917 yr Man that's just horrible. Not only the people who died so suddenly but all those injured and all the historic places damaged. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
April 7, 200917 yr :( Yea, I just read about it on the news. Earthquakes are definitely something you need to be constantly prepared for because you never know when it could happen, despite all efforts to predict them. Unfortunately, retrofitting is still not being done to all buildings. So many casualties and so much history lost. :( Hopefully the rescue, recovery, and rebuilding efforts go smoothly. April 7, 200917 yr Surprised this just made the news. Sure sucks. Italy's a nice place. I didn't even know earthquakes occurred on any non-ridiculous timespan there. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

April 7, 200917 yr Hrm I saw this on the news this morning, four-storey apartments collapsed into one-storey piles of rubbles. Then someone used a garden ladder as a stretcher. April 7, 200917 yr Does Italy get earthquakes very often? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/2381585.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tectonic_plate Italy and Greece are just on the border between the Eurasian and African plates, meaning the area has many more earthquakes than the areas further away from the borders. The Alps arose as a result of the collision of the African and European tectonic plates.

The government knows when an earthquake is coming, but for the sake of keeping things orderly, they don't say anything. Pity, especially in this case. [English translation needed]
April 7, 200917 yr I guess its a good thing they silenced him because the people probably would have fled to the actual location of the earthquake  Err what? He knew exactly where the epicenter would be based on concentrations of radon gas, but they silenced him cause they thought it wasn't enough evidence. The man actually went down the streets with a megaphone telling people to evacuate so it isn't like they didn't know.

OH S***! He/she/it is back!
April 8, 200917 yr It's always scary how sometimes in the beginning of earthquake disasters, you hear "150 deaths" or some really low number, and then days or even weeks later, the death toll is up in the thousands (or sometimes ten thousands). Yes, I know thousands were injured. :-# ^ Blog.

April 8, 200917 yr The Big Picture's photo journal. Warning, there are some pictures of dead and injured bodies in there. #27 really made me sad. is it bad if none of those pictures made me sad? No, 27 was the only one that made me sad because I looked at it for a while trying to figure it out, then read the caption and realized why he was crying.
