melee based slaying?

Featured Replies

hi guys, i am about to finish my long term goal of 99 range, once that's done i'm wanting to get 85 str then 99 def via slayer, by then i have:

saradomin sword (not godsword), barrows gloves, neti helm, berserker ring, dragon boots, rune defender, all go books, quest/range cape

now, i don't have loads of cash free atm unless i get lucky on my final range training but i can free up like 15m through ridding of my range gear, obv i need to buy a black mask and upgrade as soon as possible, but what about body and legs? it would be better if looked alright too so can skill in it, but shall be making cash on the side anyway

You should get dharok's or torag's body and legs. Best defence in the game....and the costs to repair are minimal.

Naw, dragon sucks. Just get Torag/Dharok/Guthan chestplate and Veracs skirt.

By d plate I assume you mean dragon. Yes a d plate would be good since it has nice defence stats, but dharoks would be better.

yeah dragon plate, looks alot nicer than barrows armour and i'm forgetful when it comes to fixing them

baileydafrog.png

Buy the cheapest top and bottom of either Guthans, Dharocks, or Torags (the three with the highest defence). Also, I'd get a rune defender.

Dragon Plate is a large waste of money.

Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

as i said, i have a defender, and the money would just be sat in my bank anyway if i didnt spend it

baileydafrog.png

You could spend that extra money on a cannon. It will really speed up your slayer xp

Jesus_Statuz.png

Sorry, I didn't see the rune defender.

Spend the money on a skill later. Don't buy a dplate.

as much as it would speed up training i decided long ago i wont ever get one, too many people bullying others out of spots with them, i dont want that to be me :)

baileydafrog.png

Torags/Dharoks Plate body and Verac's skirt is decent combo. I did use Bandos Tassest and Torags Body before I decided to use the money on other things. Dragon just isn't as good as barrows.

You can either ask if they mind you setting up a cannon or see if they're almost done, or you can just hop and find another world.

Verac's skirt with either proselyte top or bandos/barrows is the best gear for slayer.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Proselyte only if you're using superhuman strength.

Here's what I'd recommend:

Helm: Black Mask/Slayer Helmet

Cape: 99 Ranged

Weapon: Saradomin Sword (for strength); Whip (for defense)

Body: Torag's

Shield: Rune Defender

Legs: Verac's

Boots: Dragon

Ring: Berserker

I agree, I bought dragon plate, and it really wasn't much better than the d chain. In my opinion, the Dragon plate looked really dumb with the high [bleep]ey shoulders. I sold it and bought back the d chain. Barrows items are good, but get really expensive having to fix them all the time. For the price, dragon chain is worth it.

Rune defender is really worth it too! Doesn't really cost anything to get either. ::'

Thing is though, they don't get really expensive to fix. If you fix it at 25% and have an armour stand in your house it cuts down on the costs. And sice you only use the Chest piece and legs it doesn't cost that much. I think its about 150k at 0% for Dharok Body and Legs, and that was having Bob fix them, it was like 60k for the legs and 90k for the body. Since you're going to be training slayer and using the armour, you're basicly breaking even on having to pay for the armour.

Depending on your smithing level, the price is very low.

For example, at 50 Smithing, you only need to earn 8.5k an hour to repair your barrows body and legs. I think it's impossible to earn less than that while melee slaying.

Dragon does not suck. It still has decent stats, despite the fact that there is better armor in the game.

Dragon plate would work just fine. I slayed in dragon chain for a long time. If you have a dragon plate, use the hell out of it!

If you are going to melee tasks I strongly suggest you invest in a slayer mask/helm. The bonuses are quite useful.

And what exactly would be the point in using worse armour because it "still has decent stats", when there's better armour out there (for a very low price)? Please, enlighten me.

Pfft..

I was wearing d skirt for a long long time while slaying. I started wearing barrows because at one point I simply had too much money to spend.

Most slayer monsters aren't really that tough. You do save a lot of money after months of slaying if you use dragon armour.

It is absolutely a valid option.

he said months of slaying wich would add up and it would save on food since u could use rune with high def and almost never get hit

Verac's skirt with either proselyte top or bandos/barrows is the best gear for slayer.

Proselyte only if you're using superhuman strength.

Here's what I'd recommend:

Helm: Black Mask/Slayer Helmet

Cape: 99 Ranged

Weapon: Saradomin Sword (for strength); Whip (for defense)

Body: Torag's

Shield: Rune Defender

Legs: Verac's

Gloves: Barrows

Boots: Dragon

Ring: Berserker

You should always pray 10% strength.

Bandos is better in every imaginable aspect and is not much more expensive. Barrows has far superior defense bonuses though in some (not very many) situations the extra defense isn't worth the repair cost.
