Knee problem

Hawks

Recommended Posts

I've recently started having knee problems again. My problem in particular is that my right knee will partially dislocate itself and then go back again, alebit very painfully. It only takes a second or so, but the pain continues days afterward. This is the first time in a few months it's done this. (today it was aggravated by me getting off the bus [going down stairs])

Previously it's been bad enough that I was sent to a physical therapist who gave me exercises and stuff to do (which I haven't done since... becuase I figured hockey and then gym would keep it in decent shape) I'm thinking of taking up yoga. And we have an elliptical which I might use once my knee gets a little better.

Advice would be nice, and I know I should be doing the exercises. If there's ones in particular you know of please tell me.

I think a Doctor would be better than a Runescape fansite, especially if your knee dislocates itself.

Edit: You saw a Physical Therapist so why ask here?

It was a while ago (that I saw the PT) and I figured that people know random things here.... and last time there was one of these topics, tif apparently has some people studying to be doctors; and that other people might have had similar problems.

Oh, I have that problem too.

Too be honest, I haven't had it checked out, its not often enough to be a major hinderance, hurts like hell, but easy to put right, well, except for the last time when I fell off my chair trying to fix it.

Though the bit about you having pain for days afterwards, it seems like you take awhile to relocate it, at worst, mine only hurt for like 12 hours afterwards (or maybe a little more).

Diagnostics over the internet, none-the-less a fan site, should be considered irrelavent in most cases (save for eating glass, which you shouldn't need to ask :P ). The most fundamental advice I would give is to stay off of it and put heat on it if there isn't any swelling. Place some fidelity in those PTs.

So a PT gave you exercises to do... and you didn't do them? I fail to see the reason behind that. Sports don't heal your body, they injure it. Especially contact sports like hockey. Injuries need time to heal, if you don't give them that time, they will simply re-occur, and be worse.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Keep doing the exercised the therapist gave you. I've messed up my shoulder and knees. The exercises they give you are specifically aimed at helping your knee. Gym and hockey are just labor for it, if anything they are making it worse. I'd suggest making another visit to the doctor as well.

Knees are terrible things. Do you wear a brace or something to support it from popping out?

Whenever I exercise I wear a de-rotational brace to stop any sideways movement of the kneecap. And apparently they help with the recovery too.

I know there is actually a knee condition that results in pain, the knee sticking out and sometimes dislocating. I forget the name, but my brother had it, and it took 2 years to go away.

Still would advise seeing a doctor though.

Well I went to the Doctors like 5 days ago, because I had a bump on both my knees and its called "Osgood Schaltters" so I have to take painkillers and revisit the Doctor every month, but everytime I kneel and stand up the pain really hurts also running, so is there any way to stop this?

If you aren't doing so already, use knee braces or wrap your knees with an elastic bandage. Also ice the area 3 times a day for 15-20 minutes to reduce pain and inflammation.

Ima try this method from tomorrow. ::' . Thanks for help

If that doesn't help it, you'll need to get a cast, from what I vaguely remember. Ice won't fix the problem mind you, only reduce the swelling. Rest is the key thing.

Yup. You have to remember your RICE.

Laura change your avatar back, I can't be bothered to look at people's names to see who they are. Avatars are much easier to recognize. And it hurts my eyes too.

I'm sure even a quick search on google, or maybe even webmd would be a tad bit more sufficient then this, not saying no one knows anything, just everything google has to offer for search results probably has more information then tip.it.
