Kiriyama
They're trying to raise awareness [wagon]. You don't have to pay attention to them. I disagree with you, should I tell you to GTFO TIF? No I can't, its up to the admins and mods to decide that. Much like it is up to the government/whatever to decide if these protestors can do this. Not some punk kid. Robert_de_Sable
Wanna get them out? Urge your govnuh to help bring peace in Sri Lanka. In civilized countries we call that blackmail. Actually, I do have to pay attention to them, because they're everywhere where I work and blocking our highways. Hmmm, causing people to be late or unable to go into work for the day vs people being killed...Personally I think this is a great idea to get more attention to their cause, sadly I doubt anything will happen
Dizzle229
Wanna get them out? Urge your govnuh to help bring peace in Sri Lanka. In civilized countries we call that blackmail. 1. It's not blackmail if you don't hold something over their head. 2. Why wouldn't you try to go for peace? Seriously, they're protesting for a reason, and in this case it's a damn good one. Get back here so I can rub your butt.
Kiriyama
Its not blackmail if you start a petition. And if these protestors were causing too much trouble ad delays etc... wouldn't the local police force have dealt with them? Bloodstain, you speak the truth. Sure, I'd hate to be late for work, if I were working, but hell, its not like I can get fired because of mass delays caused by people. If I were to be late for work, in exchange for even one person to survive, it would be worthwhile. While it is a hassle to people, it does help get attention where it is needed. aquariusman
I know quite a few people involved in the protests. So far, I've generally been agreeing with them. However, not that the protest has blocked off the Gardiner (Assuming that CityNews only serves Toronto), that's where they crossed the line. Before, it was a peaceful protest that effects no one. Now, they are blocking off major transportation routes. The one thing I'm worried about though is whether the protesters let emergency vehicles (Ambulances and firetrucks) through their crowd. I agree with the protesters on the grounds that the civil war in Sri Lanka needs to stop, but don't like how they are calling an overall death toll of 80,000 (For both sides) a genocide. Before this thing is called a genocide, how about calling the Rwanda massacres a genocide, or how about what happened in Armenia? Maybe even governments could stop it before something happens that we might be calling it a genocide. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. Kiriyama
Yeah, the dollar is pretty weak at the moment IIRC, and hell, without America, would we have had the war in Iraq? Oh wait, they didn't even help out in WW2 really until the Japanese attacked. I'd be more worried about a world without China, Taiwan and such. The places where most of our modern things are made. Hell, as a gamer, and as a person who enjoys anime/manga, I'd dread a world without Japan. Face it, America is not the best country in the world. Though for Mage_Man, I could do with a world without you drunken Aussies, or just about anyone who realises where this comes from, and why it is a joke. Robert_de_Sable
You mean the logic of "Help them, it's the right thing to do?" That's not logic. That's a desperate plea. I'm not saying we should ignore them, I just don't think it's worth deploying Armed Forces there. I'm fine with offering free passage into Canada for refugees, or starting a refugee fund, but I don't want to put our troops there. Kiriyama
Yeah, but since when do we really get a say in where our troops actually go? Alot of people wanted troops out of Iraq years ago. But it didn't happen. Dizzle, I'm not saying America is the worst. That belongs to North Korea. I'm just saying that if America was not to exsist, then the world wouldn't stop spinning. Good luck in a world without the USA, though. If your family was in Sri Lanka right now, and one member was killed, would that be what it takes to make you care? You have every right to not care. You have every right to be angry about the protests, but I find it a bit selfish to feel that these protests are useless, should not be happening, and that anyone involved in them should just GTFO of Toronto. These protests are a nuisance, but it's not the end of the world. Also, supporting the protests will in fact end them sooner. I sincerely doubt this group will stop their protests until something is done. The more support the protest has, the more pressure for the government to act. There's no such thing as regret. What do you expect when you make such insensitive remarks with your only justification being that the protesters inconvenience you? Giordano
It's interesting how none of you reply with logic. Right back atcha Mr. de Sable. A world without America would just pick somebody else as a Superpower. We'll be bashing Germany if it became the super power instead of us. (and some of us burning in their ovens, depending what time period we're talkin' about.) EDIT: Bloody hell, this phpBB 3.0 "New posts have been added. Seems like in the last 10 years this is becoming less and less like a Democracy that we spent the last century trying to bring the world to. Seriously, in WWII we were the worlds most kickass country, destorying the axis with the help of UK (and Canada too, for some reason), and then helping the countried get back on their feet.
