Hobgoblinpie
i don't have a recovery Cd but i do have some Windows xp Cd's. but if i put a Windows Cd in the notebook i get the message:insert system disk in drive. This is a wild stab in the dark, and I don't recommend trying it if you think you can mess something up, but if you got the notebook from a business or school (as suggested by the Novell login), then the Boot Device Priority may be set to load the HDD as it's first priority. You'll need to access your BIOS and change the boot order to CD-ROM first and your HDD second. This may not work for you, but it has worked with some people that I know. psvstef
oh,could the problem be that i don't use a legal version of windows? (CD) edit: my Boot Device Priority is Cd-rom.
OldJoe
I know it works perfect, i've used it myself. The point i'm trying to make is that if it'd been me, i'd contacted the old owner or the company support. Yeah and it did work, technically. But in the process you allowed the user to wipe his hard drive without even knowing if he has a copy of windows or not. =D> Good job bud. oh,could the problem be that i don't use a legal version of windows? :wall:
aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
If you are just using it for somewhat basic use(internet, word proccesing, etc.) then download ubuntu from this website, there should be instructions on how to do it. If you're using it for more advanced stuff or you have to use windows then you'll have to buy windows from computer store or newegg
Laura
Out of all the things to pirate, I've never understood pirating an operating system. Not that I endorse or take part in pirating of any sort.

I think the operating system's price is enough of a reason for some people to pirate, but I guess I dunno.
Laura
I guess, but it's what you're basing your entire work on. You're opening yourself up to whatever the "first-man" wants to put in the code. But I won't turn this thread into a pirate debate, "argh-"pirates or what-have-you.
Nadril
I do have to agree, I'd never pirate an OS lol. Speaking of OS's it just dawned on me, couldn't the OP just get the Release Candidate version of Windows 7 for free?

JoeDaStudd
Sorry I left this topic after my posts. Before you even think of selling it do the following. Turn it over and look for a windows product key. (If this has been removed you can't do any of the following.) Note the version and see if anyone you know has a disk for that version of windows (its either Pro or Home). Borrow it from them and insert it into the CD drive then follow the instructions and enter the product key from the back when it asks for it. Then once you have it booted up into windows go to this site and select the drivers on the right side. Filter for XP and download the latest version of all the downloads availiable apart from anything to do with BIOS. Then run windows updates and you should be ok.
