I'm well aware that friends can have a joke at each other's expense, but what dizzle posted was just ridiculous. I suppose you would be fine with being called an idiot by your friends? What if they thought you were mentally impaired and did it anyway? I suppose you'd be fine with them constantly asking asking you questions you don't know the answer too just so they can ridicule you? Sounds like a bunch of crappy friends if you ask me.

I don't think any of that matters too much when it comes to who is a real friend or not. When I think of real friends, I think of people who would be there for you no matter what. I'd rather have a friend that constantly bashed me all the time but would help me out when I got into serious trouble than a friend who praised me all the time but would never be there for me. I mean, I'd rather have the best of both worlds of course but I find it more important whether they are going to be there for you or not.

Those segments of shows are totally fake, people will say any stupid crap to get on national TV, and its getting annoying when you travel abroad and you talk to foreigners who see these videos online and think they are real. Sigh.

Yeah, I can understand a person saying something that stupid once in a while, but they're all in the same area and they repeatedly miss some of the easiest questions. Something's just not right. And good point about the audience being average people too.

Despite whether those "Americans are stupid" videos are legit, there's one massive problem with making an inference about Americans based on them: it's statistically invalid. The makers of those videos can freely pick and choose to get the dumbest of the dumb, thereby skewing the sample significantly so that people make false inferences. They're not going to keep every video of every person they meet because they're not trying to show a representative sample of the American population.

If you want to get accurate, reliable information on the mental capacity of Americans, check out something like school performance of the general population. I'm sure you'll find a distribution of achievement not unlike Australia, England or any other western country.

What warri0r said is pretty much on the money, though I think that vid was more for the lulz than trying to prove a point.

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Really? I hadn't noticed it was in the comedy section of YT.

It wasn't originally a Youtube vid.

Apparently America is stupid and this guy has STATS! He has tried to deny it, but America is stupid!

I can really agree with him on these points! Especially with geography, it bugs the heck out of me!

USA! USA! In all seriousness, surveys aren't always accurate*. It's more or less impossible that they asked every single American those questions and got a serious answer. Can I say the joke's on him for that reason...? :D

As for the original topic: How many are new to the internet, I have to wonder.

Wikipedia is the closest thing the internet has to a God, except maybe Google.

my best friend died 2 days after choosing not to promote that chainletter

Something tells me you aren't well read on statistics and surveys. No, reading a wikipedia article about mistakes statisticians made in the 40's doesn't make you well read. When statistics are professionally collected errors such as those noted rarely exceed negligibility.

You'd have to check his sources (which I believe he posted) to give your post any validity. Otherwise it's just misleading.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

What you have to remember is that these people are less intelligent than you and just as there are people less intelligent than you there are also people more intelligent than you. What do you imagine you look like to them? - to them you are just the same as those who look stupid to you.

Now think about how you want to be treated by those more intelligent than you.

And treat those more stupid than you the same way.

Personally I wish to be treated with respect by everyone even if they are cleverer than I am, so I treat those less intelligent than myself with respect also.

Part of my post there is based on a very similar video where someone made a similar conclusion based on asking around 10 people in Washington DC.

You mean like 99% of all statistics?

Yes, 99%. What I said is the only statistic that isn't misleading, or else I would have put 100%.

These guys need to be perma banned off youtube as soon as they post one of these.

Second in annoyance to this is guys who post "yeah this game looks great! I preordered this and 3 other games for free at x website! All you have to do is y!" on games websites.

I make a habit of sending very official looking emails under a company name to the roots of those kinda chain letters
