New Skill!!

Whats the point of training multiple skills? I mean, aside from quest requirements why would you want to train your woodcutting to 60 when you already have 85 mining? Why try and get 91 runecrafting when you already earn 1mil an hour through God wars? Aside from having a high total level, there is little point in levelling up more than one skill. So I thought of a new skill that would encourage people to have a rounded character. Jobs!! Yay. OK, the skill name will be like working level or something. Anyway, this skill is about getting jobs. Its sort of similar to slayer. First of all

Shop assistant! (Levels 1+)

Being a shop assistant is one of the main parts of the job or working skill. Its more interesting than it sounds. There are seven different shops, and with the exception of three, all have the same difficulty. Each shop has a certain skill that it will force you to use more often by 10%. The shops also have subtle differences. For example, a shop in Al Kharid would ask you to make scimitars instead of longswords a little more and a store in Falador might ask you to pick 20 potatoes while wearing white armour.

How it works-Skill tasks

Lets pretend that lobsters are worth 200gp each. The shop assistant gives you a task. He says cook me 100 fresh lobsters for 20points. His payment is roughly similar to the price of the item, divided by 10

You have to wear the apron that represents your level (more on that later) On all aprons, there is a symbol representing the person you are working for. Wearing your apron, you have to cook lobsters. Every time you cook a lobster while wearing that apron, there will be a purple dot besides it (like the orange dot on a lended item) and it will be treated as a separate item to other lobsters. You get working XP for every lobster you cook. Once you are done, you withdraw all the lobsters as a note and give them to your shop keeper. He then pays you and assigns you another task.

Promotion

There is a small chance that you will be given the opportunity to be promoted to the next level every time you complete a task. You can only get this opportunity if you have the required working level for the promotion, although the requirement is so small it probably wont bother you. If you dont want to be promoted because your skills are not high enough or for another reason, you can always change your mind by telling your shop owner you want to be promoted. Your job level affects how likely you are of being offered a promotion This is how the promotion system works (excluding 3 shops, more info on that later)

*Brown Apron, Level 0. (Lumbridge shop only) Assigns tasks that require level1-20 in Skills.

*White Apron, Level 1. Assigns tasks that require Level1-30 in skills.

*Green Apron, Level 2. Assigns tasks that require Level 30-50 in skills. Level 10 Working required

*Blue Apron, Level 3. Assigns tasks that require Level 50-60 in Skills. Level 20 Working required

*Red Apron, Level 4. Assigns tasks that require Level 60-70 in Skills. Level 30 Working required

*Black Apron, Level 5. Assigns tasks that require Level 70+ in skills. Level 40 working required.

Note that every apron has a unique symbol for your employer. If you have a red apron from a shop in Falador, it does not mean you are Level 4 Rank in somewhere else, like Al Kharid. So its best to stick with one shopkeeper.

Exceptions

There are 3 shops. 1 of these is the lumbridge shop. The lumbridge shop does not have a Level 5 job, but it has a Level 0 Job. This is the only shop that is open to free players, who are limited to blue aprons. All tasks below red aprons take place in non member areas,

There are two other shops that are the same as other shops, but only have 4 ranks, Level 2-5. These shops are mainly for high levels who can't be bothered fishing shrimps when they could be fishing sharks or something.

Other Errands

Around half of the time you are training the working skill through shopkeeping, you will be running errands. Random stuff, for example giving payments to Luthas for his bananas, delivering parcels and advertising. Advertising is the only one that I think I will have to explain. Your shop keeper will say something like this.

Advertise using spin, jump, raspberry and bow in Falador square

You will have to go to Falador square and do these emotes. Every time you click the right emote, your character will say something like Go to Port Sarims shop for great deals ect. ect. These tasks give more points if you have a higher level apron. (So it is not affected by your job skill) Completing these tasks give working XP.

Rewards

Apart from the aprons, there are some other rewards that you can buy with your points

i actually like the idea of it so far, but there would need to be a lot more shops to be funner. not to mention a level for 80+ skills and 90+ skills. it also could be like slayer where if you want to skip a high level task you have to do a easy lumby one.

Add on "Purple Apron, Level 6. Assigns tasks that require level 80+ in skills. Level 50 working required."

Add on " Yellow Apron, Level 7. Assigns tasks that require level 90+ in skills. Level 65 working required.

Add on "Rainbow (?) Apron, Level 8. Assigns tasks that require level 95+ in skills. Level 80 working required.

Aside from these things, this idea doesn't really makes runecrafting, etc that useful. Look at it this way. Once you reach level 99 in working, who cares about those other crappy skills anymore? And this will probably be one of the hardest skills to get to level 99, just draining money away from the economy by forcing people to powertrain useless skills. Once you reach level 99, you can just go and earn money by doing other skills since there's no special reward except the silly aprons and a bit of crap money that can be earned like 10x faster by selling the lobsters to the ge instead of giving it to the silly old shopkeeper.

Yeah i guess 70+ is too little. But i'm not sure what you mean by that last paragraph. I was thinking of more things to do though apart from the shopkeeping thing once you get higher working levels

What I meant was that when you reach level 99 in working, there will be no more point in training the other skills. Or maybe even level 70+ in working.

Also, this doesn't solve the problem of useless skills, its just creating a new skill to train. Everyone will either train working to a certain level OR Not train working at all, as it just drains money.

Sounds alright, but more like a mini-game type idea than an actual skill.

"Sorry, mom. I can't clean my room because I'm Working right now."

*Mother looks at computer with confused and angry eyes*

Sorry, I don't mean to ridicule but no matter how you slice it, not many people want to feel like they are working when they play a game. I like the concept of using other skills, but there are many other ways to incorporate the encouragement of a well rounded character. Take my Archaeology guide. I've included every skill within that skill, but it's not required to have those skills trained to train it. This means if you've made the other skill rewards worth it, players will WANT to train those skills to reap those rewards, and they don't feel like they are being forced to do it.

With this, I'm like...eh. So you've made a skill that is only made to train other skills? Fantastic. I should be 99 already.

well I always wanted some slayer alike skill for normal skills, altough it does have to have something to gain with, like with slayer you get good drops and charms. And I don't like the idea at all that I have to sell my own made goods, maybe trade them for something you can get from that skill but I don't need money

I posted this two years ago on the forums, under the guise of Scruff636b. I guess it's a full circle thing if this is being put back in now

No problems though. If you do it justice, then good luck
