Exactly, It started somewhere, but nobody really knows because it predates recorded history. I've read some really whacky theories that involve aliens :lol: interesting, although unlikely - even with the vast mounds of textual evidence that is posed, even THAT is based on the translation's interpretation. In Australia, if you dont work you get an allowance from the government. For some reason, Aboriginals get a better allowance, have a longer time to be unemployed, and generally are baby-fed by our government. They dont even try to get off their [wagon] and get a job or make money, why? The government does it for them.

Maybe it's just my racist family/background/self, but I don't feel sorry for them at all, and many a time I have gotten in trouble off teachers when we have been learning about them this year. (Damn compulsory units for my School Certificate) :evil:

 

 

 

Don't feel sorry for them. They get over $40,000 a year in direct cash allowance, free housing, free public transport, free health care, free taxi trips to the value of $50 outside of business hours, they have their own court and punishment system, free plane tickets and 3 day accomodation for funerals of family and tribe members. You are thinking of the pets allowance where the government subsidises the cost for registering and feeding them.

 

 

 

There is no benefit whatsover for them to get jobs. They complain about being robbed of their lifestyle and heritage and about being treated differently yet they demand compensation and benefits for being of aboriginal descent. As far as I'm concerned, if they don't like it, they can go back to the desert.

Here in Pennsylvania, USA, there is a law that black kids get extra points on math tests because it's been shown that (on average) black kids score lower on math tests than white kids. I think that's a bit unfair. Also, the fact that it's infinitely easier to get a scholarship if you aren't white (even if you're poor and white, like me).

Ah I love New Zealand. WE don't get much stuff like that, because it is pretty much normal between Maori and Pakeha (White European). Gangs, yes, only a small percentage more Maori's are in them then Pakeha.

Yeah, well we don't have as much racial conflict as Australia, there is still a fair amount in NZ.

 

There are a lot of people who criticize Maori for having lower education rates, for being more likely to be in jail, be unemployed etc. A lot of people seem unhappy with Maori getting 'perceived' preferential treatment.

Very true. I'm constantly being accused of being a racist and/or sexist because I treat everybody equally which has lead to a media ban by my manager :thumbup: . I'm supposed to treat all Aussie white people like [cabbage] and everybody else like Robert Harvey! They are dreaming!

Dunno actually whats its like there, seems pretty bad though.

 

 

 

The maori here don't have much more like privleges then the White people, though some things are pretty stupid like the NZ Maori rugby team (which pretty much replaces NZ A). And such things like what Jeffwilson said above.

 

 

 

And, speaking from what I've learnt around my city, they are waaaaay more likely to commit crimes, join gangs etc..

Wow, thats really stupid. You could use this logic just to give everyone the same grade. (eg, this guy here scores on average 20 points lower then the second guy, therefore he should have 20 points added to his test...) Fail.
