Hegemony-V2 begins page 302

It's happened to Earth many times in history. It doesn't rip the planet apart. It just happens far more frequently on my planet.

Fine, it occurs in normally, but in far greater quantities than normal. This allows them to be easily broken down. There, problem solved and I still get all the same effects.

Railguns work by repulsion, usually... It can't stay where it is, can't go back, can't go up down left or right, has to go forwards.

All the forces except the back force are acting on it, so therefore the ship is pushing and therefore the projectile is pushing back on the ship.

Its not doubled, I am thinking of something else. But for 900 km/s at 1 Kilogram it would be 900*1000(km to m)*1000(kg to g)*10(to newtons) of force.

So... 9,000,000,000 Newtons.

Then you have the atleast 1,000 ton ship going at X speed.

Which would cause deceleration. So a 1 Mega-Tonne ship, flying at 90 Km/s would have a force of 900,000,000,000,000 Newtons, which would be noticeably decreased in speed, but also damaged structurally by the sudden deceleration.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Not decreased that much. 900 trillion Newtons one way, 9 billion another.

So decreased from 90 km/s to 89.9991 km/s I think.

And structurally? The weight of the railgun will increase sizably and this will be forced back into the mass of the ship. The ship itself might hold together, but would everything inside it?

Also I think 1000 tonnes is a bit heavy.

If anything, it's light. An Aircraft carrier is over 100,000 tonnes, I think.

Hmmm, so you are right.

Point is that structurally it is gonna destroy the ship that fires it if it fires something too heavy or too fast.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Maybe it could be solved with a longer main cannon? Longer acceleration time.

flobotst.jpg

Hegemony-Spain

That would just ramp up the time taken to fire, it wouldn't stop the force backwards. (Since acceleration creates force)

I think monopoles aren't damaging to the game, so unless you have any other objections, they should be allowed. Anyways, are there any technical constraints to monopoles?

Lots of other things that are not damaging to gameplay are ignored, so unless there is a reason why it is damaging to gameplay, any technical constraints should be ignored.

It could be overpowered. Technincally unfeasible. You spent no time researching it. As a random event it is like saying 'Its 1936, Hitler is walking along the road when suddenly he invents the atomic bomb'

Only slightly, from our perspective, but it would greatly decrease the effects of recoil. A car going from 0-60 in 1 second would experience huge amounts of forces over a short time. A car going from 0-60 would experience the same total amount of force, just over a longer period.

Hmmmm....

Almost.

As it accelerates it will pass more magnets per second, and thus the force exerted on it and by it would increase exponentially. Not by the same amount, but probably about 75%

Also Rocco, your tracks are fine. Scaling them up would be problematic though.

Not sure what you mean by that. Higher bore guns?

I mean that for the really really big guns(The sort that Doom is talking about) it might be problematic.

Also, many of the guns can absorb the recoil on their own
small ones maybe.

Two things:

1. I've researched plenty of deep-sea mining for 20+ years. That pretty much counts as a research right there.

2. I don't see any application that could be unfeasible. The way I'm using it, its basically a strong metal. (The metal is weak by itself, but the way that it interlocks and its magnetism makes it strong).

...Sigh, its not allowed without proper research.

It sets a precedent. I could say that I was diving on Neptune and discovered the ultimate virus. Or Dusty was stargazing and saw God...

Monopoles would mean you could create mag-levs with no power input, you could create hovertanks, hover boots. You could create recoilless railguns, you could create extremely powerful railguns, you could create magnetic based weapons....The list of applications is limitless.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Yet I actually researched something to find it...

You have that super powerful strange matter thing which makes your ships invincible to matter. You did research to create quark fusion, which creates strange matter as a byproduct.

I researched to create efficient seafloor mining, which allowed me to find ionized iridium. Besides, for all those applications that you just mentioned, I'd have to research that. It shouldn't be that I have to research to find it, just research to do anything beyond that. After all, I have no research for railguns and no research for all those levitational things that you mentioned. I don't even see the point of levitation.

Also, I believe that the definition of a railgun requires an electrical charge. It wouldn't work without it.

-----------------------

The situation I have created is that they are not monopoles. Its just ionized Iridium which can be easily mined with the proper technology.

Yay, I get my theoretical monopoles!

I will trade you.... 100 tonnes of the material (that will take 5 years to mine, as I have just started with it, but it will increase) for 10 of your caravels. :)

The caravels can be run by your forces, but I request that you don't yoink em away again.

Explorers on Kajea have discovered diverse wildlife within the rain forest on a large island that lies on the equator.

(Sorry for the anti-climatic update, but I will think of a more interesting story at a later time.)
