Grim_
Also you might want to rethink those rust-bucket subs you used retech. If I remembered correctly I killed a million soldiers with barely ten ships...
Retech
Well I brought those submarines over on a single ship...so they had to be pretty bad. Besides, I did help wipe out someone's fleet, before killing Doom's unarmed transports heading to South Africa. They did what they had to. Besides, back on my home world, there are thousands and thousands of submarines all over the place. I think that's decent enough for protection, considering no one else is aquatic. Retech
I suppose so. I've diversified (incase of emergency) by growing mushrooms and algae. Also, there is probaly lots of kelp in the tunnels as storage. Besides, my kelp has undergone massive genetic enhancement, to be specially disease resistant. I grow lots of different kinds of kelp (some from Earth), so that diseases don't kill them all at once. I'd say that I have over a 100 different varieties, decendant from 25 original varieties. Retech
If you're assuming that there's just enough kelp to feed all the people, then 5% drop in kelp production would kill off... 25 billion people. (Lol) Of course, there's always a surplus, since most of the population grows their own food. Alright, imagine your house (I hope it's one story, or else this probaly won't work). In the amount of land equal to the land your house is sitting on in a fertile part of the planet, you could probaly grow enough kelp such that you could support the people who live in the house. Of course, most people actually live "on" their cultivated land. It's sorta like a treehouse, except that there are like gas sacks to push the house up, while a sturdy kind of wood kelp (not capable of being eaten, but carved into tables and such) keeps in anchored. Wisp
Everyone has such friggin ridiculous populations. On Earth I have like a few billion people, and I control 3 full continents (minus a few small areas). In my other planets I have maybe 10 billion in total. Regardless of how strong empires are, all my people have a far better life than any planet with 10s of 100s of billions of people. Retech
Kelp is superior to other crops by a factor of ten or more, not to mention there's more space to grow that kelp in the sea. If the planet (Earth) can support six billion people, then assuming that my planets are the same size as Earth, my population sustaining planets should support thirty billion each. Now we factor in the fact that their radii are twice as large as Earth in most cases, the surface area is four times as large, so that's up to 120 billion. Then we note that the sea is so much larger than the land in surface area by at least two leads us to 240 billion. Then we note the the volume of the sea, though I'm not going to factor that in much. So then we come to the fact that normal kelp is far more nutritious than normal wheat, so with genetic enhancements and fertilizer, then the kelp I grow is at least four times better than normal wheat, when compared for calories per day. This leads me to conclude that my population is easily sustained by current resources. ------- Well my females enjoy American-like excess. My males work in the Iridium mines and kelp fields all day. Iridium mines are fun. Lava is flying all over the place and people fall in and get incinerated. Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county! Grim_
Hey I have a relatively small population... granted I have to really encourage industry as the government farms have driven down the price of plant based food in my empire to tiny amounts. But then again I also have 4-5 mining colonies to send the unemployed to....
Wisp
Problem is that fetrilizer takes a ton of resources to create, and there aren't enough nutrients probably to support all that kelp. Hegemony-Spain

Retech
I didn't mean Fertilizer. I meant "Fertilizer," like manure. Besides, if done sustainably, which it is, all nutrients are returned to the enviroment. Think in the box of kelp, stop thinking about the problems of today's agriculture! That's the fault of the land. :) Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county! Grim_
Retech you would still need some type of nutrients from which the kelp would grow... Wisp
I'd say my population is aproximately 12 billion, 3 or so on earth, then 8 or so in various Tefarn planets, 1 billion in Centauri, and then about 300 million people living in floating superstructures. Retech
Hmmm....well there are five hundred billion people who have to go to the bathroom in specially created suction toilets, which pool the waste into a facility, which packages them into trucks for use in the farms. Of course the farmers smell like poop all the time, but that's a small loss. Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county!
