It's a good piece, except for a few things.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1) Lighting coming through the large rock formation seems a bit messed up, as it breaks apart and varies to quickly.

 

 

 

2) About 3/4's of the way down near the base of the large formation it's all black. As it's not to dark and there is light, you should at least be able to see some texture.

 

 

 

3) The texture of the rock very close to the front of the piece seems a bit *blah* to plain, very lacking.

 

 

 

4) Sky seems very streaky.

 

 

 

5) The two tall formations it's very light at the top and then switches instantly to a very dark shade, either this is a variation in coloring of the stone or the lighting is once again skewed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You're an argumentative she one tee. Why do you have to pick up on every single little detail, it's computer generated, it's done on a program that generates landscapes... It's done on a program that's no bigger than 0.5MB (Folder). Christ man lighten up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1) To get in to physics, the large rock is blocking out the more violent light from making the haze glow beyond it's furthest wall from the angle we're seeing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2)The texture itself is darker there.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3)It's a desert, and it's rather hard to make a good desert surface map that's very appealing. If you know what the default TG surface map is, you should be applauding Zack.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4) Natural fault of Terragen. You don't have to downsize it very much (since the current resolution is still considered a rather large render, it would be much smaller if not in a wallie format) and you can't even notice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5) An illusion, as if you were to look at the terrain, there is most likely another few mountainous formations that you cannot, which would be behind the two we're seeing in the main view, which are casting a shadow to the lower half of the pointy formations in the background. Terragen does not randomly make a sudden light shift such as that.

Phsyics has nothing to do with the intensity of the light, it should still be coming through the other cracks in the formation. Another thing is, it's not just "darker" there, it should still have texture. It's not like "oh god decided we're turning off the electricity for this part of the desert" uh uh not happening. Another thing Nadril has WM, so he can import his surface maps. Your number "4" makes absolutely no sense. And since we cannot see these other "formations" there is no reason for the light to reach them. If there were, we would be able to view a shadow on the ground in some form as well. Since it's simply to straight cut. Sorry quit trying to kiss up.

Zack can defend his own work, it's just that as I proclaimed many months ago, he is infact a "Lazy cabbage wagon." He's probably already working on a new landscape and doesn't have time to defend this one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also have alterior motives for defending it, one being that Teenageloser was being a [developmentally delayed] and forgetting what someone mentioned above me which basically summed it all up 'that it's a computer generated image' or something along that lines. The second being is that Zack has given me permission to make it in to a Terraspace, so I don't want people giving the thing I'm working on too wrong critique.

Anyway, he's not giving any excuses. And yes, many of these things can be rather easily postworked with Photoshop out, but you get a certain about of 'points' for posting a raw TG render that looks good with minimal postwork.

anyways, keiph, what exactly determains if something is a real 3d app or not? :? . As far as i'm concerned terragen create's stuff, in 3d (unless this is some ubar-weird 2D/4D crap going on :shock: ), and realy it's my favorite program to use.

Well first of all that doesn't entitle you to call his work substandard, because I'd love to see you do better. Speaking of his work, I think you should go critique someone else that's a beginner, because as I've shown you obviously can't give a real critique nor back it up for crap. As far as Zacks ego, I've openly stated I thought he was over-rated, though now I'd take that back as he's improved, but he would usually agree with me. The guy has no ego compared to what he should have for the lovefests people took him into on these forums.
