Tormented demons - RoW or no?

Hey,

Just a quick question, so far i have done 121 TD's solos and havn't got anything as of yet and i was wondering if i should be taking a RoW or not. Currently i use a RoL :P and i have heard many arguments about whether or not to use a RoW but i would like to find out your opinions aswell.

Thanks.

i heard row lowers your chances for claws, though i can't prove it

Nah, that's bull. It'll do what it says on the label: increase the odds of getting a rare drop.

I second this. :P

If thou consider the possessions of an enemy to be like a roulette wheel, then the 'rare' items so coveted by players are located on a second roulette wheel, that will only be spun shouldst thou roll a specific number on the first wheel.

The ring of wealth affects not the number which thou may achieve upon the first wheel, but should thou gain the precise number to allow thee access to the second, the ring will make thy chances of gaining an object on that second roulette wheel all the greater.

I understand the above posts but i hear shards are rarer than claws, therefore if i used a RoW and were to get claws, i'd get a shard instead. Hence i'm confused

I think we can say with some confidence that the ring of wealth will not hurt your chances of getting rare drops. Guthix's little roulette wheel analogy is cryptic, but typically, we interpret the "wheel" as having slots that are blank (meaning your rare drop turns out to be a drop of nothing). The ring of wealth would most likely replace those blank slots, or else it would replace a lesser rare drop like a runite bar.

Again, we don't know exactly how the ring of wealth works, but we can assume it does what it's supposed to do.

If it ups the chance of a dragon piece it should up the chance of claws too, so why not? Without a RoW it would be the same.. just with crappier drops slightly more often.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

230 kills without a ROW= 4 armor pieces

230 kills with a ROW= 1 pair of dragon claws.

That was my luck. I've heard from numerous friends who also hunt TDS that wearing a ROW is a good idea.

It'll increase your chances of getting a ruined piece of dragon metal. I've gotten 5 claws within 1k kills along with 5 ruined dragon metal pieces. I got 3 ruined dragon metal pieces before getting any claws - I was wearing RoW at the time. Oddly, right after switching to archers ring I got 2 claws within the next 50 kills haha.

Granted, since it's pretty much impossible to test drop rates without killing dozens of thousands, you can only rely on what Jagex has said in the past. Jagex confirmed that ruined dragon metal pieces are indeed rarer than dragon claws. Furthermore, Jagex always intended the ruined dragon metal pieces to be more valuable than dragon claws. Thus, it only makes sense that the ring of wealth will only increase your chances of getting ruined dragon metal instead of dragon claws.

RoW does NOT lower your chances of a pair of claws, it actually increases them.

Okay, dragon lump alch value is 18k, claws are 81k.

I hope you all know the two wheel drop rate theory?

Okay, the ring of wealth does not help you get onto the second "Rare" wheel, but it increases the chances of getting a more valuable drop once you are on the wheel.

Now, since it determines the value with its alch value, basic logic dictates that the ring of wealth increases the chances of getting dragon claws.

Why not use it?

Are you a believer?

I always use a ROW when a monster has a "rare" drop (whip, d bow, etc). It's all odd at the end of the day. Some people are lucky, and the don't "need" a ROW, and get a lot of rare drops.

And, by the way, the draconic visage is considered a "bonus drop" (stated somewhere by JaGEx) and this is why a ROW doesn't affect the chance to get it. The same applies to the animal heads (the ones you can get stuffed and place at your POH) and some other stuff.
