Zaaps1
You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in our games. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users. You also must not use any game-specific, third-party software that encourages breaking of our rules, or bypasses the normal navigation of our website, or automatically requests pages from our website, or which endangers user accounts. Software means any type of program, including: downloadable software (e.g an [Caution: Executable File] file), or web-based software (e.g a website set up to perform a similar function with flash, java, javascript or serverside scripts). Both from the official rules of Runescape. I notice, however, that no where on that page or any related rules does it mention 3rd party HARDWARE. Software are usually programs and such contained in your computer's memory, but hardware are appliances that function OUTSIDE of your computer, (Java being software, the mouse being hardware). So would using 3rd party HARDWARE, then, be against the rules? Now you might be thinking, "if you doing this to afk, it is against the rules". AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. While you are playing on our games, you must be at the computer. Away-from-keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer. So then what if I DON'T leave the computer? What if I stay with it, reading or watching TV, and using hardware to do tedious clicking? For example, what if I have something that can repeatably press the "5" mousekey? It is not an internal program that clicks, but rather an external device that clicks the button, similar to me pressing it myself. Basically, if I have something that can externally press buttons for me (as hardware), AND do not leave my computer (and break the afk rule) would I be breaking any rules? I am mentioning this in case this has been brought up before, or anyone has seen Jagex mention this, or any Player Mod can post this in the Pmod forum. This is more out of curiosity more than anything. I have no idea how I would build anything like this anyway. ~It's Super Effective! mister_moocky
It would be within the rules, but "look" identical to macroing, especially if you leave it overnight while you're beside your computer. It's pretty much clicking at the same intervals, just like an auto clicker.
Lord Diddy
I'm pretty sure "I used a power drill to click for me" isn't going to work for an appeal. Jagex "detection system" (probably) works by timing click and mouse movement. Obviously after _ hours of not talking and doing timed interval clicks it would raise a flag in their system. In theory it would work but Jagex won't differentiate between hardware or software. Video was hilarious though.
Raisedbyapes
So for Jagex to ban you what proof do they have??? I know games like warcraft III can scan the game and see 3rd party software. IE map hackers. So if you have a drill work for you as you sit at comp and do all randoms asap. How can they ban you. I sit at my desk and click the same rate for a hour with my hand alching. Sad but true. So does jagex not have anyway to scan your comp. The should at least send a mod to you while you are playing and see if you are there. aspeeder
3rd party hardware would require 3rd party software to do anything, uness you're just setting a hard drive on your arrows to keep the screen spinning :P , but seriously if you're thinking like a robot or other piece of machinery, there has to be something giving it commands and that's where the software comes in. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots

Cptbaker08
Well if you're at your comp i don't see how it would hurt. But i know someone who used their toe and a wireless mouse to alch things. He also played some Smash Bros. while doing it. And some time ago someone mentioned this and i think they ruled that it would be against the rules. But again, unless you tell and get reported there isn't a way for you to get caught. runoilija92
Jagex wont ban for something like the drill in the vid. Neither do they keep track of every runescapers clicking. You could click on 1 spot of the screen for 10hours(with the same interval) in a row and nothing would happen. Altho you could get mega unlucky if tons of people reported you and jagex actually bothered to check it out, also this would be VERY unlikely to happen. Zaaps1
Actually, I have this spinning motor in my brother's toys. He never players with it. It belongs to some sort of building set. Point is, it can make a rod spin an its axis. In the building set, there are many pieces you can attach to the rod, which will spin along with it. So what I had in mind wasn't a robot that follows programming, but rather simple machines. I realize that it is very easy to mistake it for macroing, but there are ways around that. Only doing this at 1-2 hour intervals, for example, then doing something else. This would be the case anyway, because farming runs still need to be done. Doing randoms asap and without failure could also work. Doing this in your house would prevent anyone from accidentally reporting you. ~It's Super Effective! X3EN
Doing randoms asap without failure didn't help me from being banned. Although jagex accepted the appeal after 20 days (it was a 21 day ban). Fletching steel bolts for a few hours then doing something else (hand pain and boredom) didn't help either. Lord Diddy
But why bother going through all the trouble of modding a drill/toy/whatever. You can just download and use a bot since Jagex has no way to "scan" your system. Either way is still breaking the rules not matter how you sugar coat it. However, no external programs are used to scan the system (e.g. launching a native application, which would be captured by the firewall). The drill example violates this portion of the rules (quoted above). But the purpose is not to prevent logging out. The purpose is to prevent you from clicking too much. To everyone saying: "play normally" or "it's the same as macroing", I know that. I don't have any intention of doing this, I'm just curious to see if it is legal or not. Because as far as I can tell, Jagex has never issued any statement banning this. ~It's Super Effective! Thats like saying that it's ok to kill a person with a hunting rifle since the purpose of the hunting rifle is to hunt animals and not humans. It doesn't matter what the intended purpose is. What matters is what happens. If Jagex has a rule about not circumventing their auto-logout mechanism for inactive players (e.g., players that aren't personally interacting with the game, and instead are sitting there while a machine does the work for them, and is NOT interacting with the game), then doing something that unintentionally violates that rules is STILL a rule violation. No, I didn't macro, and that's why my appeal was accepted. P.S. If you were wondering WTF? How come I was banned then? It's because they caught me macroing maple longs on February... Lamely done compass control gave me out easily that time. Simply saying my reputation got destroyed... So this time they banned me while I was intesively fletching (fletching is the key) steel bolts (profit from fletching ftw!) for a few days (like 30-60k per day, while interrupting slayer assignments) in July (actually I was going for 99 fletching that time; summer means a lot of free time each day). ckellingc
I wondered this too. My work has those nifty touch screen computers (which would make mining and stuff SO much easier), and I was wondering if that would be considered illegal. I don't think it would, simply because I'm not using any special programs to give me an advantage, kinda like mousekeys are legal, I don't see how that would be illegal. There is no way to make "Millions fast and easy"... SO QUIT ASKING ABOUT IT!
