Runescape updates

Why do people constantly complain about the amount of updates Jagex produce for runescape.

I'm in no way supporting Jagex, i honestly cannot stand them. Very limited customer support, poor information provided.

But Jagex attempt to bring out 1 update to the system per fortnight, now thats 26 updates a year. And some of them are rather large updates. I came back to runescape after an extended break of about 3 years. Only to find myself practically learning a new game. Where once before, if you had a question involving skills, quests, items.. you name it, i knew it.

Now i'm not up for a fight, so don't take me wrong. If you love your quests, new minigames by all means keep pushing and you will get them.

But personally i am satisfied with the amount of updates we're given. Infact i struggle to keep up to date with quests.. as im about 50 quest points behind now.

If i could improve just one thing on their system update scheme, it would be accurate ETA's. Rather than leaving us hanging.

What are your thoughts?

I'm not just irritated with the unbelievable number of "no update" weeks we have had, I'm just downright frustrated with their secrecy. You cannot call these developer blogs informative of updates, especially when most of these project they're talking about are still months and months away.

I think they need to start back up with the State of Play's they released in 2008, I liked those alot. They gave us information on projects that were actually nearing release, not the next graphical update of tool leprechauns planned for 2013..

Wait, since when did they change it to once a fortnight? I thought it was weekly...

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

I remember a blog a while ago by one of the mods stated that, Jagex will attempt to update the system once a week, but at minimum a forghtnight.

I don't complain, mostly because I don't play much anymore.

However, weekly I check the updates and am usually left wondering, "What's different now compared to a year or two ago?" because in the past, we've had updates almost every week, big and small, and without any large noticeable bugs for the most part.

So why can't they release updates with minimal or no glitches weekly like they used to be able to?

And don't say because of HD... That's a horrible excuse.

Maybe before, they stockpiled a huge amount of updates that they made all in huge streaks, and released only three to five a month to give the illusion that they were always working...

Or because last year and the year before weren't designated "upgrade years".

Anyone who has to ask why there aren't as many updates this year hasn't been paying attention at all.

Well then like a Jagex mod said the complaining people are a minority at comparison of the rest of the RS community. There always gonna be people hatin'. but there are more people lovin'.

My thoughts are you haven't played for three years and i'm sure it would feel like a whole new game. Now if you had played in 2008, 2009 would seem like a whole new game too, but not for the better.

Because Jagex shoot themselves in the foot, here's an example:

Not so long ago something they updated (PvP) was not liked by many people and within 2 days they re-wrote the entire update, which makes it seem like 2 weeks is a long time for new (or which annoys people more - updated content such as graphics only) content.

Well I haven't seen any upgrades, besides the familiar adjustments on the 18th(which is how it should've been upon release of Summoning), in atleast a month...

You can't just disregard what was quite a bit upgrade just because you think it should have been that way before. (It should have been but that doesn't mean you can disregard it). There has been an upgrade this month.

I'm eagerly hoping for an update tomorrow (bank holiday today so you won't be getting an update).

It's a quest called "Message for the Myreue." You take them a letter and chocolate cake. 500 agilty exp. Along with excuse that they're busy with more upgrayedds so unfortunately this quest is a little short.

But trust them, they're Jagex. They wouldn't screw you over, right? -.-

I think that's the first time you ever made me giggle. Well done.

I'm not really bothered by the lack of new content. We've had a few upgrades and fixes this year that I've really liked, but mostly ones that I wouldn't use. I'm not a huge fan of how secretive they've become (after they've made it a huge point that they wouldn't be so secretive.)

Basically, for me, this hasn't been an exciting year of updates, but I'm not really complaining.

And I understand that, but they honestly cannot justify an entire year of bug-ridden, short content over some upgrades. They've made more significant upgrades in previous years and stuck them in the "in other news" section, or paired them with another piece of content. The only thing I can believe is that they've taken some of their main content developers for RuneScape and sent them to temporarily work on MechScape. And please do not start with the "MechScape has their own team" arguement. I've heard it before and I still don't believe it to a full extent. I honestly think they've deverted some RuneScape content memebers to MechScape's development...

The thing is, the best updates are often the ones we forget about because they've worked so well, it feels like they were always there.

Of course this year has been quite slow but they've churned out a lot of content in recent years, why can't they take a step back from updates for a year to go back and fix buggy code, little things ect. It's not like there's nothing for us to do, I doubt that anybody reading this has done everything there is possibly to do in Runescape already.

I do think that they might have moved some people over to Mechscape for the moment. To be honest I don't mind all that much, if a few extra staff working on pushing Mechscape for release can bring it earlier then good. I'd sacrifice one or two updates a month if it means we get a whole new MMO sooner.

I'd be fine with that if they admitted to it, but they say they haven't, so taking them at their word, I'll criticize them. And personally, I don't find the lack of content inr RS happening at the same time as the intense development of Mechscape to be a coincidence. -.-

When they are updates that I enjoy, then of course I am satisfied. I'm rather annoyed when an entire year is labelled as an update year, and I can't count 5 memorable updates on my one hand. It could definitely be worse, but when a person has had better, it's difficult to be weaned off.

Although, this name changing update might make up for everything that I've been expecting. If only it was that way for everyone.

I think Mechscape is Jagex's way of redeeming themselves to the players. RS is pretty much screwed to eternity since everyone seems to hate them now due to them being in a rock and a hard place with the RWT fiasco. A game with hope is a better investment of time than a game where people still complain about wanting the wild and free trade back. It could be their way of proving the players wrong and reminding them that they are the company that caused all of us to like the game enough (at least at one point in our lives) to come to this fansite.

Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic. It's what I would do though.

What I miss the most are the start of the month teaser announcements. Even if it just included a general list of what they hope to release in the coming month and some hints to secret releases for the month would be nice. Instead we sit in the dark having no idea what to expect. The anticipation of "anything could be released" was okay for a little while, but when it changed to "I wonder if anything is going to be released or if Jagex is even going to post anything this week" it quickly lost the appeal. I wouldn't even mind a subtle change each month to the entire Runescape world just to show that time is actually passing and things in the game are changing (albeit slowly).

You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.
