iPod Video - Apple's back-up plan?

Featured Replies

For those who don't know, at a top secret press conference yesterday, Steve Jobs announced Apple's newest toy: the iPod Video.

Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod plays video, changing the way you experience your music and more. Again. In lighter, thinner 30GB and 60GB models starting at $299, the new iPod is music to your eyes.

Time for the world̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s best music player to take the stage for another encore. In 30GB and 60GB(1) models that hold up to 15,000(2) songs, full-color album art and up to 25,000 photos(3), the new iPod makes the most of your music and more. Yeah, you̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve heard that tune before. Only now, you can watch it, too. With support for up to 150 hours(4) of video and a 2.5-inch color display, the new iPod lets you take music videos and TV shows on the road.

This new iPod replaces their current iPod (which had photo capabilities), starting at $299.

Its strange though, because the iPod Nano was just released a couple weeks ago and was expected to be off the charts and sails. Sadly though, Apple reports their Nano sales were not what they expected.

...so then the iPod Video comes out...

Was this Apple's back-up plan in case the Nano failed?

(For any other Apple users that don't know, the new iMac G5 was also released yesterday with a built in iSight and other cool features.)

I love how apple makes it out to be something never seen before

I don't really mind what they do/their reasoning, just another item for me to dropship :D

Gah...and i just got an iPod. Ah well from what i've seen the video quality isn't that great, i wouldn't exactly want to watch videos on that size screen anyway, and my 5,000 song capacity is plenty for moi.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

I loved how apple fanboys kept bragging how iPod Nano is the best thing ever though.

Isn't there an iRiver player that can already do what iPod Video does?

I think Apple should go back to their lame computers. I abhor iPods.

Yet you have never privided a reason why in any of your posts. I think its great this new ipod, even if only for the added storage. IOts the same price as i paid for mine and its got a colour screen, can hold photos, 10 gb more than mine AND can download tv shows and music videos. This sounds greatr to me. iPods just got better, makes me wish i could part exchange mine and get a new one hehe :D

Personally I think Apple made a bigger mistake to discontinue the iPod Mini when they released the Nano, but whatever.

I'm sure they know what they're doing

Omg, I completely agree. I personally own an iPod mini (silver, 2nd gen) and I really like it. However, I wisshhhhh there was an iPod mini photo also. I want a colour screen, and was so mad when the mini's got replaced by the nano. I don't want an mp3 player THAT small, and the headphone ports at the bottom are just :x

Dont get me wrong, the nano is cool, but just not for me. As for the "new ipods" (no name? just called the new ipod? wth?) I love them. Its another case of "you don't need it, but it could be useful" kind of things. I would love to have 30GB storage, but I dont really need it. I would love to have little movie clips on the iPod as well, and view pics. So I'm thinking about selling my mini and buying a "new ipod"

As for the iPod haters out there....meh. My friend hated the iPod, and had an iRiver. He finally gave in and bought a nano. Now he loves it. People hate the iPod because its so popular, and they just want to be different. For me, and many others, the iPod does what it needs to do, and looks amazing while doing it, all at a decent price. If you can find me another mp3 player that looks nicer, is cheaper, and has amazing software support like iTunes, then ok. But I highly doubt it :?

Good job Steve Jobs (no pun intended)

Lame computers...you're right. I mean seriously, who in the world uses Apple computers?

Once again...read my above post...because you are very very correct. :P

I never understood what was so great about the nano. Only a few centimeters smaller then the regular one, dosn't make much of a difference.

You just know that in a years time the Nano's will be 4 and 6gb in respective :P That way they will match both the storage and price of minis but it far more features. Its a great business model and will ensure next years xmas sales targets are successfull as well as this years.

I can't wait till the Ipod Microwave/Fridge/HomeTheater/KingsizeBed 'n Mp3 player in one comes out. That way I can Microwave my popcorn, grab a cool beer and watch a DVD in bed when I'm on the train, I can even listen to music while doing all that.

In one year I'd expect them to have 20GB iPods the size of the Nano, but I doubt that'll happen.

If the Ipod Video fails we'll have them next month, better save up, Rick. I think Apple isn't being really fair and honest towards its customers. I don't like that.

I dont see how it would fail. Its the same price as the previous iPod version just with more features.

Not really. Most sales reports seems to put the Nano as a bit of a flop as far as sales go compared to other variants :-?

With at frist I mean when it wasn't out yet. Everybody was all enthousiastic about it. In the end it was a flop.

That's marketing. Talk it up and hope that it works.

I certainly wouldnt call it a flop. Profits are surging... just not quite as high as analysts predicted.

I don't get it, why do they expect the sales to be so high? It's not like everyones going to buy EVERY version of the iPod.
