unkn0wnwarrior
Having both Luke and Brayden would have been awesome. I think I agree. The Kessel deal hasn't really come back to bite them too hard, yet. But that game really was pretty boring. I enjoyed the fight, though.
foursideking
I think the raycroft deal they made a few years ago did skrew them over a bit though. Imagine the leafs if they didn't go through that whole goaltender scenario, and had rask/gustavsson/(possibly turco?) in net. They'd be possible playoff contenders this year. obfuscator
of the 6 canadian teams sens is probably my least favourite to watch. then calgary. imagine the leafs if burke let the team tank in the 08-09 season and picked up brayden schenn instead of kadri? that's his biggest mistake imo, and not the kessel trade.I don't think it was that big of a mistake - schenn is still in the ahl at this point anyway so it's not like he's ready to go now. unkn0wnwarrior
He has proven closer than Kadri, though. Kadri might not even be NHL ready next year, but I think Schenn will. Only time will tell. I only really agree because I really wanted both Schenns. I think the raycroft deal they made a few years ago did skrew them over a bit though. Imagine the leafs if they didn't go through that whole goaltender scenario, and had rask/gustavsson/(possibly turco?) in net. They'd be possible playoff contenders this year.I don't think that deal was that bad at all, really. It was based on what we needed at that time. Raycroft gave us a (relatively) solid year (37 wins, tied Belfour's club record) before imploding. We didn't do much with it, though. Plus, if Reimer keeps playing like he has, we don't need Rask. And I hear Burke is looking to trade the 2 first round picks, as well as the third rounder from the Versteeg deal, for either a better pick or a proven player. obfuscator
I wouldn't mind seeing those picks go if we get a proven center under 25(tavares, duchene, stamkos come to mind, although I don't think any of those are for sale). I don't want to give up draft picks for richards - I'd rather sign him as an UFA at the deadline. I also kind of want evander kane as well. But the price would be steep I think... Faux
no chance we're getting any of those guys you mentioned there's other teams that can bid better than the leafs even for richards. rangers would, and he'd be willing to go there and play for his old coach i wonder which dman burke picks up before deadline and the cost. hopefully we keep at least 1 of the first round picks :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

unkn0wnwarrior
As much as it won't happen, I would still like to see one or more of them join the Leafs. The only chance we have is Richards, and even that isn't a good one.
foursideking
The leafs actually have a few chances, if you look at all the teams that are gonna suffer cappage during the off-season. SJ is gonna need to get rid of a few players, calgary is gonna need to get rid of a couple, as is phoenix/nashville. Imagine though, if toronto plays it smart, then they could have a horton in a leafs jersey for the first time in nearly a 1/2 century...
obfuscator
LOL Brett Lebda scored. They might as well just hand over Lord Stanley now. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
foursideking
Lol...the leafs are truly shocking to me. They're like the bill clinton of the nhl: occasionally having a high scoring affair, but other than that, totally dead.
obfuscator
And Kessel with 4 points, Bozak with two goals. And Brett freaking Lebda scored. As heard on twitter: "Lebda has more goals today then crosby & malkin have had all month" :D "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

Those first 3 will be kept by their current teams and Richards will have other options to choose from. We'll have a chance at some good players, yeah, just not those specific young centers. As heard on twitter: "Lebda has more goals today then crosby & malkin have had all month" :DTruly a great day to be a Leafs fan :P I missed the game, as usual, due to work. obfuscator
Lol Nick Kypreos just put his foot in mouth on twitter: RealKyper Nick Kypreos I'm confident it will get done. Those [bleep]ers at tsn try to discredit me all the time. I'm really pissed! As always....thanks for yo ... obfuscator
Yup. Interesting game last night. Pity we didn't win but we got the point at least and lupul got two :D That line is really weak defensively though, bozak and kessel both -22 and lupul on pace for similar.....at least they're producing a bit more now. unkn0wnwarrior
Yeah, the +/- should start fixing itself now that they are. Although if Wilson keeps putting them on in the defensive zone, maybe not.
foursideking
Well...trade deadline day is tomorrow. For all those wondering where the term 'trade deadline' comes from, it is ancient maple-leafean. The word 'trade' roughly translates to 'no sundin/no kaberle', whereas the word 'deadline' translates to 'means we have no chance in hell of making the playoffs'. foursideking
Things on toronto's to-do list: -pick up a solid backup goaltender-pickup solid forwards-pickup solid defensemen-???-make playoffs
obfuscator
Once Gustavsson starts playing like he can (which I think will happen soon) then they're fine goalie wise. They really just need one center and and one D to be competitive I think. foursideking
Naw...if gustavsson gets too good, then they'll trade him away like they did pogge. What toronto needs is a top 6 forward, and a rebuild of their entire defensive core. They started that last season by bringing in phaneuf, but failed to do much else since. Should be interesting though tomorrow, seeing as 3 teams have sh'tloads of draft picks (florida, colorado, anaheim), and toronto just happens to have what those teams are despirate for... He's supposed to be their goalie of the future. The entire defensive core doesn't need to be rebuilt. Phaneuf, shenn and aulie are all great, gunnarrson is good as well.. They need one or maybe two more and they'll be good. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
foursideking
a few years ago, pogge was supposed to be their 'goalie of the future', same with elliot in ottawa and holmqvist in tampa. Times have changed though, nowadays, gm's get rid of goalies whenever they suffer more than one bad season in a row. At the end of the season, my prediction is: Either gustavsson, and/or giguere get traded to nashville/st louis in exchange for a semi-decent forward, or a couple of picks.
