Gustavsson will stay. If one gets moved, it will be Giguere. And you can't fully blame Giguere for the goals. The team gave up in front of him late in the game, even though he was playing alright.

Reimer has definitely been the better goalie this year, though.

I don't think Giguere was playing well at all..slid way out of position on both goals. I highly doubt Gustavvsson gets moved, but I doubt they'll be resigning Giguere.

It's not a matter of 'wanting conklin', it's a matter of 'needing him'. The leafs have always lacked a solid backup goalie, so much so that it's costed them plenty of chances at making the playoffs over the past few years. Conklin is a good solid backup that they can turn to should their number 1 get injured.

They don't need him lol. They have four decent goalies in their system (3 if gustavsson plays badly).

i don't think you could move giguere without giving something away. his value is so bad with injuries and his play isn't that good even when he's healthy for his cap hit

Agreed. Oh well, at least he's UFA...they'd better not resign him.

Wait...toronto has 4 decent goalies? When did that happen? Seriously though, yguy, I disagree with you on that part. Giguere stinks, gustavvson is unreliable, and reimer, although semi-decent, will never push them past the first round. Conklin has playoff experience, is a reliable goalie, and is cheap. To the toronto maple last-place-team: get rid of giguere, get rid of gustavsson, pray to god that conklin doesn't sign with florida, and pounce on the open market.

Guguere stinks - agreed.

Gustavvson is unreliable - also agreed, but he's still young. He's a great prospect goalie. At very least, he's going to be much more then conklin.

Reimer - playing great, at least a great backup in the future(as good as conklin).

Jussi Rynass - doing very well in the marlies, good prospect.

Ben Scrivens - also doing very well in the marlies and echl.

The only goalie the leafs would possibly be interested in is a first rate starter (likes of bryzgalov). They have absolutely no need of another backup. They also aren't anywhere near last place, and BB has already said he's not interested in JUST making the playoffs this year.

Personally, I think Toronto going after a #1 goalie is a better idea -- there's a lot of available tenders out there. This could be the year to land a good one for cheap.

As for their current stable of goalies:

- Jiggy's got a fork in him, he's done. Time to pack it up and retire.

- Gustavvson is not NHL quality and never will be. He LITERALLY hasn't got the heart for it. Burke made a mistake with this one. It's time to cut it loose.

- Reimer is the equivalent of Michael Leighton. He's going to put in some good games for now, but he won't last long-term. He may work out as a backup at best.

- Jussi Rynass is a good prospect. I agree -- but he's not a #1 tender.

- Ben Scrivens - not a #1 tender.

Let's take a look at the available ufa goalies this year:

Tomas vokoun- cruddy, but better than the current toronto ones

Ty conklin- has a vast amount of playoff experience (played for detroit and pittsburg during their cup wins)

Manny legace- not that good, but would still be good as a tutor/mentor for their young goalies

Compared to toronto's current goalies, these 3 are waaay better. Hell, for a mere 4m cap hit, they could get conklin AND a good backup. Bryzgalov is never going to leave pheonix, seeing as he's too needed there, and without him, the coyotes are a sub-par team at best. Not to mention the fact that he still has 2 years left on his 3yr/11.5m contract.

Any of whom will come at a fraction of Jiggy's salary, which'd free up enough cash for your draft picks ...

A fraction? Conklin makes 1m per year, but has the same effectiveness as the best goalies in the nhl. Oh, and I have an idea for this thread: we should all do a mini playoff pool once the playoffs start. Oh, and you can add osgood/khabibulin to that goalie list, mind you I'm pretty sure that osgood is gonna get a new contract so long as detroit avoids going after nabokov.

^ i'd do that even if i'm not that good. i had sharks winning the WCF last year and montreal basically demolished every prediction i had in the east

no prob bro :^_^:

now that I think of it there must have been a handful of die-hard habs fans that made a LOT of cash last playoffs

1m a year is a fraction of the 6m that Jiggy makes ... :P

We discuss other teams besides tml. Hell, I try to discuss'm all, seeing as everyone here can't seem to see the nhl beyond their own favourite team...

Well I, for one, would love to discuss other teams, but it's just too easy to talk about Toronto's woes.

What's your team Four? I'm something of a Habs fan, myself ...

Habs are doing ok. I find it difficult to see them going far in the playoffs though with that many D out. Price can only do so much...

Sadly, I think you're right.

We've seen Cujo and the Dominator steal series and carry a team within a short distance of a Cup, but, while I like Carey Price, and I thnk he is the goalie of the future, he's not there yet.

Montreal has some good boys down on the farm though, in Hamilton. We go and see the Bulldogs play from time to time. Not NHL superstars or anything, but very capable farm hands that may help out along the way.

We got to see Price, first hand, pretty much single handedly win the Calder Cup. It was something to watch, I can tell you. <3:

As for picking my 'favourite team', I can't really choose seeing as I've always seen the nhl as 'all 30 teams playing against eachother' rather than 'ooh, I like this one'. I'd love to see phoenix make it past the first round though, seeing as they've done so much in the past few years (relocation problems, firing gretzky, and going from crap to west-threatening).
