Now how about lutefisk, akevitt, coilguns...

We still haven't forgiven you for raiding our monasteries and murdering our monks...And the Danelaw.

Good thing we did away with "the olde religion" centuries before you did. It was filthy and corrupting.... Thor wore a bride's dress once; I don't want my children to look up to him and try to cross-dress, thank you very much.

He also, singlehandedly, tore of a bull's head and was constantly fighting the Jotuns.

He also stole a mile-wide kettle from Hrymer the Giant and almost killed Thialfi's entire family (peasants) because the poor lad gnawed on the bones of Thor's goats because Thor all of the food that his family offered to their guests, leaving the poor guy nothing.

Teaching my children to steal and murder poor people? No thanks.

Here's my suggestion, if we do a space themed game, or one that will eventually include space.

Only 3 solar systems, so: Sol, and then two others with habitable planets. That way land no longer is meaningless, and we can all actually remember where the hell systems are.

I suggest Alpha Centauri and then the next closest system.

FTL is banned, though with enough research you can reach 99.9% of light, or close.

For what it's worth, without the Norwegians, Britain/Coastal Europe wouldn't have all of it's castles, and ancient static defenses. Who knows, the Ottomans might have conquered more of Europe if not for that, in some way.

We could do Alpha Centauri and the system that Midgard was in, both of which are real star systems that possibly hold habitable planets.

That could be good, though I think we should get rid of Sol, since people will think controlling Earth gives them some special advantage.

Three systems with....18 planets in total? About 6 light years between each system in a triangle

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I agree with having three systems, but having FTL banned is dumb. Just use the same FTL travel thing as before, use 3 systems, and we recreate Hegemony V2 as it was.

Well, in all likelihood doing it the way we did last time would take more energy than to power the universe. Lets just have one research set it stone, we ignore how far away the systems are.

First tier, 12 years to go from one system to another

Second, 6

Third, 4

Final, 2

Each takes 10 days to research.

And having Sol is good, it means we have a reasonable place to start on that we all know. And if someone really wants earth, they can have it.

I'd rather play in a more spread out game, but whatever. It's not like we ever payed attention to how many people we could cram into a 10x10 metre square. Aside from that one time when Retech had like a trillion people (Don't remember the exact number) and they all died.

Seriously, we never took building space into acount before, why limit the game to start doing it now?

Hehe, only 500 billion.

And trillions of eggs ready to hatch. :P

Do you mean habitable, as in Earthlike planets? Or anything that is remotely self supporting.

Yeah, cuz the Aglo Saxons were such angels...

Imagine where we would be now, with no electromagnetic accelerators, no aerosol, no paperclips, no gas turbine... that's no LHC, no spray paint, no way of keeping documents together non-permanently, no modern aircraft engines... the world wouldn't have been what it is today then.

HI I'M MATHER AND NORWAY IS AWESOME AND THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD BECAUSE WE INVENTED A BUNCH OF STUFF.

Ahem.

I'm going to reiterate my previous statement about land value.

Nobody payed attention to it at all except like once, when Retech had a few hundered billion people on a planet (For the record, so did I, but nobody ever cared)

Why should we make the game more compact and start caring now?

Thank you. Can we just discuss the old rules? We basically have them in place, for heaven's sakes.

Here's why I want less planets:

More planets=More resources than we can ever possibly use. Conflict over resources is a fun part of the game. Sitting, and expanding constantly and never having a reason to fight, is not. How about this, there're two wormholes half a lightyear from each system, each of them going to one of the other systems. Then no FTL other than that, and no other wormholes EVER.

I want planets to be something to fight over, not a virtually endless supply. Maybe 2 habitable planets in each of the systems (other than sol), then just the rest like mars, venus, the gas planets, and maybe some terraformable moons.

Ok, sorry, was at a party rebuilding my self esteem (and it worked; thanks v mask!)

Roleplay your race as much as you want, they will only be cosmetic.

Unless someone REALLY has an issue with the system I proposed back on page 24 (I think), that's the one we'll use. I don't see any benefit to factories. All your doing is changing the word "population" to "factories".

I understand the idea of having less habitable planets, and that makes a lot of sense, though people should be allowed to choose which system to start in & they need trade offs.

Unless someone REALLY has an issue with the 3 system system, then we'll use Sol, Midgard & Alpha Centauri.

It takes a year to transfer from one system to another.

Please condense your posts, just say whether you agree, whether you don't and if so, what you suggest instead. It's already gone midnight and sometimes I struggle to get past some of the padding you guys put in normally.

If we have just three systems, then it becomes GRIMCRASH at the very beginning, which is alright, but it defeats the purpose of any building up. It would just be war and chaos from the very beginning, which is alright, but then the game ends too quickly and we're all left unsastified.

indeed

Also, here's a system for forcing PVP.

Everyone starts on their own planet.

Each planet spawns with (but is not limited to) 750,000 of each resource. They are used up at whatever rate you use. They replenish at 125,000 a year.

There is one extra planet in each system which spawns with (but is not limited to) 1,000,000 of each resource. It replenishes at 250,000 each year.

This way, unless you want to be left behind in the dust, you need to make some good decisions to get a slice of the planet.

EDIT: Retech, not really, considering how limited you would be to growth for the first week or so at least.

Ah, I thought we were all starting on Earth as usual. Must have missed that somewhere.

Oh, and one thing about you're system was off, each farmer should support WAY more than 4 people, in real life each supports like 130 people.

I don't like starting on our own planet. I like starting smaller, and moving on to larger scale.

The reason I proposed 4 was to curb growth rates, so we don't have 70k battleships a year.

This isn't Hegemony, this is Empire. In a way, we are starting on a small scale. Travel between planets in the same system is of a similar timescale to across continents, and between systems it's just like across oceans.. As if we're just saying the same things, but roleplaying them using different words.

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

Well, just because there can be enough food, doesn't mean that growth rates will be infinity. That means that like 20% of the population are useless, no matter what.
