Hegemony Argument Thread

Featured Replies

Instead of having 1 man consumed = 5 more man, we'll scrap that and confirm a maximum growth rate of 5% a year, going down as the game goes on.

I REVEAL A THOUSAND SPACESHIPS IN DAKRA!!!!!

but seriously, if you can do it in real life (for example, a thousand spaceships in a palace is unrealistic however an assasin is realistic) why should you be stopped because it would hurt the person on the recieving end of the attack and its 'dirty'

What was the proxy control system?

Instead of having a confusing system based on what people eat and the growth rate, how about this 'the more people you have the more people are born' so 50 million will equal 0.5 percent pop increase.

Proxy Control = When you do the actions of NPCs, without the permission of the moderator

Also, having more people generally means your absolute growth rate is higher, not your percentage...

We don't need a proxy system, since there is nothing to proxy. Dungeonal can launch riots and such if he chooses.

Stealth attacks should have some kind of draw back...like needing a massive stealth module so the ship is generally weaker.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

There needs to be trade offs though Rocco, so that ships are *unique* and not just *huge*.

Archi, that's a far more exciting way to work out attack, yeah.

Maybe there can be 'types' of attack, Hit and Run(Speed*Attack), Broadside attack(Attack*Defence) and Ranged Attack(Speed*Defence).

Defending ships get Defence Tactics(Defence*Defence), Elastic Defence(Defence*Speed) and Hold the Line(Defence*Attack)

Worker Efficency is then added on to that ' *(10,000*4) 'style

Do you mean the module you build on your battleship can only do one type of attack, which is powerful vs one type of defence, neutral to one and is countered by the other type of defence?

i.e. Hit and Run is strong versus hold the line, neutral versus defence tactics, and weak vs elastic defence? Strong = 2x multiplier, neutral = 1x, and weak = 0.5x?

Basically.. the more powerful your module, the more workers needed to work it.

So, an attack module of T2 adds 6 to attack, removes 3 from defence, and adds 2 to worker efficiency.

EDIT: If there is a demand for stealth attacks, then fine, it can be another module, which replaces defence on the ship it's on. Stealth starts at 0. BUT, for X, Y and Z resources, a planet can build a radar system which has a rating of N, and then the stealth of the inc ships is rolled against it to determine if the attack is known or not.?

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

I'm assuming dungeoneal will be OP, - thats all fine and dandy. (it just confused me thats all)

Archi, how about they cost a large amount of money and break (need repair) after 5 uses?

Edit: what time period will the game start in?

The future.

On defence, sounds like a good idea. Then people would have to tailor their fleets to their opponates, which would make it obvouis who was doing what.

I am basically with Rocco, as long as the system is spelt out in clear terms I will be happy.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Oh, I was hoping the hegemony would restart from present day like the first hegemony :(

But, I just hope any system is clear, easy and non time consuming.

Hmm. I keep getting the notion that I would end up playing as the Texan Republic if I were to play what we are arguing over.

SWAG

Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

How about this for starting:

If we're not gonna start on earth, we each start with the same technology of the United States in modern times. Then, we also get one slow, weak, unarmored space ship each to start, and the technology to build them.

If you're aliens, you get essentially the same technology, with modifications for you're race (ie: you can fit in the cars, their not designed for humans)

This way we all start 100% evenly.

Then, if you're playing humans, you pick a country, and you have that country's culture (not their wealth level etc. just their culture).

If you're an alien race, you have to explain you're culture in detail.

I agree with Doom. Since its set at an undetermined point in the future anything could have happened so you could play as Aztecs if you wanted, but everyone starts equal in technology, machines and population. Dungonal will have to decide what to do about aliens that are 5 times the size and stuff like that...

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

So essentially any modifications for aliens are mostly cosmetic, since this game has battles that mainly take place in space? Wouldn't really matter if you breathed water or air, since you're still stuck in your own spaceship.

I've already said earlier: Roleplay your alien race as much as you want, they're purely cosmetic. It's simply adding too many complications otherwise.

Starting wise.. Okay, if we want to start at that low a level, we will.. Please offer a quantifiable way for people to progress to battleships strong enough to do battle then. Don't make me suggest something if you're going to suggest something else afterwards!

I think at the moment we're agreed on resources, ship building, combat, FTL travel (a year between systems, only routes posted earlier?) & growth rates.

Research needs to be worked out, and I need to know if people agree with 6 systems, a starting planet for everyone with 2 extra planets per system with the resource levels I posted earlier. IF it turns out it's needed, we can add additional systems but the fact is, if someone wants to fight you I'm not going to make them stop.

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

I'm inclined to agree with Rocco, I really don't get the point of starting with present day technologies.

We'll start with 100,000 people each, using my resources system I posted earlier?

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

(Mather just wants warp gates so he can go "WEEEEE SGC!", I reckon.)

I'd prefer 6 systems, and a normal ftl method.

No, I just like the thought of instantanious travell.

And we need more than six systems!

I would like to propose something else. People can send colony ships to other stars and have a roll on what planets/npcs they discover. We start with x systems but in the end we could have x+y systems. Also would it be possible to develop a faster method of ftl travel or is it all uniform.

Wasn't someone saying each ship would have 20,000 people on it, or was that just an example?

Grim, I have to nitpick this, a year between systems is about 600+ times faster than the speed of light.

We are not having instant travel. If you want to get somewhere and attack someone without them being prepared, build stealth ships. Instant travel is unreasonable and [bleep]s up PVP.

If enough people want to spend months of their lives turtling off into the middle of nowhere, then fine, we'll do that. Put an ROAR in the end of your next post if you want that, and a BLARGH if you don't.

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

How about instant travell between you own outposts? ROAR!

If you mean like the old Hegemony, but with more coherent systems, then that's a ROAR. Not exactly sure what you mean by that though.

If fixed up old hegemony, then ROAR.

Basically, we'd have 10 systems, each with 2 planets in + your own starting planet in one of said system.

If we have even voting, then it'll be BLARGH, because that will be more interesting in the long run. 6 planets is more than enough to hide away and do whatever you want as long as you're not being a total [bleep] about it.

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

I've always figured Hegemony as an expansion game, with oppertunities for conflict. Like we all start with one planet in a single system, with the rest of the planets in our system as uninhabited. Then it would take a bit to colonize your system and get everything sorted, before you explored into the expanse of space.

It's much more fun to encourage warfare than to force it. An easy way for this is that each colonization ship would be rolled on, and if it found something, the person would get Pmed. Then five days later, the information would be let out to everyone on the thread, so if they found something valuable, it might become a conflict to obtain it. Much more relaxed than everyone being right next to each other, in the only planets that will ever be there.
