Average_Hobo
Who hasn't heard of 2pac? Get out more. Anyway, I'd have to say Elvis. Yes, in contemporary times Michael Jackson is well known, but still, Elvis has left a legacy that will probably never leave this planet. How many Elvis impersonators are there? How many Elvis songs are being remade? Just.. Elvis is like way more famous than anybody! The Beatles may have had better songs but they havn't left the same huge legacy as Elvis has, and they're not as famous I've heard of him but I don't like him...This is for most popular band in the world. But enough of that. :) 2 Pac ~48,000,000 US 90s Rap *(38mil.US) Whoops the record sales had to slip out :( My bad sorry.
AThousandLies
According to the RIAA, the Beatles have sold more units. I'm surprised to see this is even a dispute.

But the problem is how famous they are (the topic has kind of got sidetracked). The thing is, The Beatles are huge, no denying that, but ask Joe Average who's more famous and he'll probably say Elvis. vanderhorn
I hate the beatles, they said they were more popular then god, even though they withdrew that (gee wonder why... everyone got mad duh) so beatles suck. The Eagles own u all.
Rizla
I hate the beatles, they said they were more popular then god, even though they withdrew that (gee wonder why... everyone got mad duh) so beatles suck. So you're saying their music "sucks" because of something one band member said in jest, and later retracted, over 20 years ago? Anyway....... for me, Elvis is probably the most widely known entertainer in the world. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
Tomato
My grandparents would have no clue who Tupac is, but they'd definitely know who the Beatles are. They get my vote.
Faux
Not tupac  I would have to agree with Mozart or the Beattles. They were some of the first musicains I know when I was a little one. Why not tupac the topic is popularity not if you think he/she/they are the best band ever 2pac is VERY popular, almost everybody knows of him  2pac isn't popular. I asked my friends who are into rap and they'd only say, 'he's the guy who got shot, isn't he'? And to tell you the truth, I never even heard of any of his songs or fully (well, at least partly) knew him 'til I read about him online. He's ok as a rapper but the getting shot thing over-exaggerated his whole image making him 'legendary' even if he isn't. The Eagles own u all. True. I find them better than the Beatles but unfortunately, Beatles is more renowned than the Eagles :( If it's a choice between Elvis and the Beatles, I'll choose Elvis. I remember when even me and my friends would mimic him even when we lived in a town all the way in the Philippines and we still knew about him. That's something :o Who hasn't heard of 2pac? The Eagles own u all. That doesn't make them any less famous, if anything the opposite. As good as the Eagles are, there's no way in hell that they have ever come close to matching the success of the Beatles, the Beatles were so groundbreaking at their time. logic-is-overrated
Beatles have sold more but in terms of being well-known its Michael Jackson. He's well known for being one of the best musicians in the past and for all the stuff he's done now. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.
How2PK
The Beatles The Eagles Pink Floyd Queen The Rolling Stones Genesis Coldplay Dire Straits Abba Meat Loaf Backstreet Boys Led Zeppelin Deep Purple The Doors U2 Brian Adam Bob Dylan Michael Jackson Phil Collins Bob Marley Neil Young Bruce Springsteen Eminem Jimi Hendrix Santana Frank Sinatra Dean Martin Sammy Davis Jr. Ray Charles James Brown Elvis Presley Eric Clapton Bon Jovi Aerosmith Fleetwood Mac Robbie Williams The Beach Boys David Bowie Marvin Gaye Bee Gees Billy Joel Supertramp Van Halen Guns n' Roses Nirvana Elton John UB40 The Who Areta Franklin Dusty Springfield R.E.M. Toto Madonna Prince Ramones Paul Simon Police And of course a whole lot of other bands. Atleast, that's what I'd nominate if we had a competition. But I thin kthe most popular band is the Beatles. I think they've survived time best and apply to the widest range of people. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! I don't know any titles by Tupac. I know a good few by Elivis, but The Beatles are known on a more international level. WutangFlu
Pink Floyd sold more than 200-million albums since 1967. they were in movies.. they HAD there own movie. they get my vote. and the beatles are the most popular, but not the best. thats a fact based on opinion though. although John Lennon is one of my fav. "poets" i guess. and a good singer.
How2PK
Pink Floyd didn't have their own movie. 'They' (as in not Pink Floyd) made a movie based on one of their (as in Pink Floyd) albums; The Wall. Other than that they (as in Pink Floyd) never really starred any movie. With exception of some of the Docu's and of course some live preformances, but most musicians have those. Pete_the_Viscous
Going by sellings, it is without a doubt still the Beatles. Going by what people listen to now, it'd be hard to say -- what with people listening to (ill-gotten) MP3s, there's no way to accurately tell who listens to what. (So what I'm saying is that it's not enough now to go by how many CDs/records have been sold). About Tupac... I have a feeling he's more popular in the US than elsewhere. I've only really heard about him on t'internet. The Beatles and Elvis were hugely popular in China, India and Japan, whereas I would imagine that Tupac is less so.
