The Hegemony (12th Feb = 2018, Part 2)

It also underlines your over-reaction.

In any case does anyone think that the EU can stay together after all of this? 4 people to maintain it.

What makes you think that the former countries will join your alliance and [bleep] over themselves? Because as we know they would take a large hit on their GDP if they were to join you and force a large part of their economy into ruin...

What large part of their economy? Its mainly France and Germany with massive surpluses...The Eastern Territories buys alot of the crops and such produced by these two giants....

And I don't really care about EFTA...I just want to make sure the EU dies....EFTA is just a way to recuperate my losses...TFTA on the other hand will prove very useful in the long time.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I think it can. Considering that the EU isn't simply about trading, I doubt all these countries would suddenly drop all the political history just to run to the EFTA because you can buy a loaf of bread for a couple 10 pence cheaper.

Also, due to your agreement not to trade with non-EFTA members, you essentially cut out a big part of your 'master plan'. If they don't join then you won't sell them the goods. Your plan relies on controlling the market and flooding as many countries as possible with these cheap goods, yet since they haven't joined EFTA they can't buy goods from you, and they won't allow these cheap goods into their country as it would destabilize their economies.

Essentially, you've bought up a lot of food that nobody is going to buy. The vote we should be having is whether the Swiss citizens decide to have a vote of no confidence on their leader for spending the entire gold reserves on bread and beer that nobody wants.

Good point.

However it is not their entire gold reserve, and there is the offer to sell to India or Japan so....

Also about 70% of people in Europe don't want to be part of this new super state(Quotes Irish, Italian and Spanish referendums on the Lisbon Treaty)...So realistically Germany has proved itself domineering and ready to drag everyone into war...not to mention to invade neutral countries for no reason but to destroy its rivals.

The lower food price is really just icing.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Thing is I never publically threatend to invade nor did I invade a neutral country. (Don't blame me for your poor sanitation). Also what would people in your country say if you used federal money to buy... bread to crash a market? Also an embargo was what you were doing I just made another official one :P. Finally this is not being said in game but I was planning to do away with the E.U. once my slough of projects were done.

Grim- My sanitation is fine and I am sueing you for Libel.

I brought the food to allivate poverty in Poland and other places but was blocked by the European Union.

I didn't embargo anything...I simply required an End User Certificate to be sure that you didn't recreate the mountains and lakes and continue the poverty.

My main point was to stop any European power becoming too strong...

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I vote that the EU stays together, so that's three votes (assuming Grim votes for his own proposal)

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

Anyway Switzerland tries to put the events of the past six months behind it, instead focusing on its research and education system.

Really? you are really suing in this game? The settelment is out of court and you get several hundred million dollars. The poverty? Check the wiki page but a few cents less on bread is not going to change that much (if you want most of the stats check the more detailed economic page).

EDIT: Using poland as an example a sharp decline in food prices would lead to a loss in what is employing 16% of their total workforce.

Well it doesn't matter...unless you want to attack a nation which is just a city. So attacking civilians?

Well its the difference between £2.30 for a slab of butter and 80p for a slab of butter....For a family living on the poverty line I just gave them almost three times the butter.

Its the difference between £1.47 and 50p for a loaf of bread

Its the difference between £10 for a bottle of wine and £4.

The difference between £1 for a pint and 30p for one.

The difference between £6 for a beef joint and £2.

Three times the food (I don't know the prices in Euros so they are in pounds(I also don't know how much wine or beer costs...so stabs in the dark there)) is more than a couple of pennies to a family that barely scraps by....

I am effectively only going to get 270 Tonnes back for my 800 Tonnes of Gold outlay...but Europe will be changed forever...Well the EFTA parts of it anyway.

Anyway I was right, only France and Germany regularly produce a surplus. Britian regularly consumes its load...For the other countries they are looking at 4-9% GDP...which will be reduced to 1-3% GDP, but increase the standard of living incredibly.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Archi the only real problem with that is that it is not really sustainable and you will use up your funds buying and then selling bread at a large loss (though thank you for buying my surplus)

LNYvk.png

I disagree, Dusty. The whole point is that it affects the masses, not the leaders. When the signle moms on the border between France and Switzerland see that 10 miles away there are grocery stores selling food for half the price they are paying there, they'll put pressure on their government. Sure, it won't work now, but after a while overall faith in government in the EU will falter and shrink.

Except to get the 10 miles they'd have to have all their travel permits in order, their passports, then check through the borderpoint, then when returning they'd have to declare their goods, which would then be taxed. So, the groceries may be cheaper, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't cost said person more of their money to go through the process to actually buy them.

Grim you produce a surplus every year...Though I have effectively brought your 1970 to present day surplus...

And this is a one time thing(well probably 10 years), designed to get people working again, rather than trying to grow food in places which cannot sustain it(As much of Poland can't).

I will gain my 270 Gold Tonnes, bringing my total up to around 600 Tonnes. Just ahead of Russia.

The end result obviously being that these countries are not waltzable...as has happened in the past.

Thus meaning that these nations will not just 'become' Russian or German or Romania, they will stay independant.

(Anyway, bed time, toodle pip.)

PS. Never check your exam timetable the night before the exam, when there was a similar exam on the day before yesterday and you see it and your stomach drops out of you.

Hah, I can one up you there. I had an exam one semester that said it was at 1, I went in and apparently they had changed it to 9am without telling me.

Luckily my doctor is awesome so he just wrote me a note and called in saying I have sleep problems so I couldn't make it. Instant write-off. :D

Thus meaning that these nations will not just 'become' Russian or German or Romania, they will stay independant.

Quite honestly I have no real expansionist goals in mind for some Romanian Empire. I need the Slavic countries to be able to keep my growth as good as the gigantic bloated empires that undoubtedly pop up, and need the manpower to withstand an invasion and have some measure of influence over the events in the thread.

What the heck happened? I got busted one night and war's around the corner?

Scandinavia put's all trade with the EU on hold and exchanges Sweden and Denmarks membership with EEA memberships.

Also Scandinavia opens it's markets for Switzerland, Romania, Australia and Japan for a lowered cost.

(Note: Norway is the seventh largest oil exporter and the third largest gas exporter as well as being the largest fish exporter.)

You gave up Sweden and Denmark?

By the way, since this is based on the old Hegemony thread, if there are changes that need to be made to the map, you are responsible for that. My only responsibility is updating the URL of the map on the front page so it shows the most recent one. Oh, and you always (always!) need to save the map as .PNG or else it'll be Jpeg-raped.

Man that pissed me off to no end since I was the defacto map keeper of the previous games.

I went ahead and did a general update to the map on the front page. I did go ahead and color in all of Scandinavia, even though there's the 5 day rule.

Yay! The EU is now isolated inside Europe Major, the external zones have left.

Anyway Switzerland offers TFTA(Terran Free Trade Association) membership to all countries (Specifically Japan, USA, Australia, Brazil and Romania) and grows moderately, recieving Italian, Libyan and Mexican membership, in addition to Scandinavian and India, which already exists.

Specific overtures are made at Canada, Britian, Ireland, Ukraine, Turkey and Egypt which should join up in three days.(Since it is a trade agreement, not annexation is should take less time)

Can I suggest we use Tonnes of Gold as our standard currency for dealing with each other...There is a clear limit on how much Gold we each have and it is not subject to much inflation.

In other news Switzerland adopts the Gold Standard and sets the fractional reserve at 1/9th. Giving Switzerland a paper money(In Dollars) value of 207,603,480,618 or 207 Trillion Dollars, which is 26 thousand dollars per person.

Printing the new money has begun and will be circulated over the course of the next two years, and old money will be phased out at the end of that, over two years.

The change over will effectively mean Switzerland's wages and cost of living will decrease.

Though the two counteract each other I want to increase my fractional reserve. So Switzerland offers to buy 100 Tonnes of Gold from any country in exchange for a 20 year (Particle Accelerator) Technology Agreement(ie anything I discover, in relation to particle accelerators, becomes yours too)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_reserve

Countries which cannot afford this(such as Australia) I suggest talking to Sere or Grim or the EU, the USA has over 8,000 tonnes of gold, Germany has over 3,000 and the EU has 1,300(including my 800)

Oh, economic warfare map

What are the terms of the TFTA? I can't have total free trade (since I am doing that with my satellite sta...I mean fellow brothers), and I need my embargo on India to stand, and I'm sure India wants its embargo to stand as well. So basically things traded from one of nations cannot end up in the other. Sounds fair?

Japan has about 750 tonnes of gold. And a trillion dollars in foreign currency reserves. Will Switzerland be trading off its old currency in my reserves for new currency?

-----

Japan offers to purchase fifty-billion dollars worth of Swiss currency to help combat deflation in the Japanese Yen.

Sound cool to me, I will have to work out what fraction of a tonne 50 billion dollars is.

Japan only has 2.5% of its 750 tonnes in foreign monies....If someone can find out how much of that is Swiss then yeah.

TFTA is free trade between all of the nations within it...Embargos are disallowed (except for militeristic reasons...IE selling Guns to, say, Germany, who then sells them to terrorists in Switzerland...) between member states....I guess you can't join then

Sigh, exam time. Back in fourish hours(its only 2 hours long but half an hour there, half an hour back, waiting for half an hour for it to start(better than being late, then half an hour to type a responce. =P

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

No, I pulled 'em out of the EU, and made them sign the EEA

Scandinavia accepts the TEFTA invitation.

Just a question, how many here have scientists on SIRO TEMP and has told them to work on better membranes for salt-power(me being cought and ordered to sleep didn't exactly help me see if anyone joined)?

If there was a chart showing best economy per citisen I would be second, first if only player owned countries counted.
