VEGHATERMEATLOVER
That doesn't make them an energy field at all, plasma shields are theoretical shields that could probably stop dust getting somewhere. And Archi, this is meant to be real.
The_Mather1
Plasma windows are existing technology wich is capable of holding matter away with a preassure difference of six-to-nill atmospheres. They are what in sci-fi is called shields. Twitter: @TheMather1
VEGHATERMEATLOVER
Ok in real life they only exist in really small places, they can't stop any solid matter getting through as they are pretty weak and if you were to make them strong they would require thousands of volts of electricity and what would they become, your magic if someone attacks you everyone dies shield.
The_Mather1
Voltage has nothing to with the matter. Also it was nine atmospheres. They require 8kW/cm and their strenght can be increased by further heating the plasma. "Plasma is any gas that has had some of its atoms or molecules ionized and is generally held to be a separate phase of matter. This is most commonly achieved by heating the gas to extremely high temperatures, although other methods also exist. Plasma becomes increasingly viscous (thick) at higher temperatures, to the point where other matter has trouble passing through.""The only limit to the size of the plasma window are current energy limitations as generating the window consumes around 20 kilowatts per inch (8 kW/cm) in the diameter of a round window." Now please do not argue against this, it is currently used as an important technology in hadron coliders, which again proves their quality. VEGHATERMEATLOVER
Theoretically! and so if someone sends in one guy and cuts that little wire sending electricity to it you have no shields.
The_Mather1
Rather if someone sends a heap of guys in to cut that massive cable, each one getting fried as he touches the silver/copper inside it with anything non-isolating. "The Plasma Window was invented at Brookhaven National Laboratory[5] by Ady Hershcovitch and patented in 1995"Not theoretically. The_Mather1
Plasma windows exist, and scientists have even figgured out their power/size ratio and that heat=resistance. VEGHATERMEATLOVER
But it doesn't exist in the way your going to use it, as a super powerful forcefield you put around your ship.
Seraphi
Is everyone forgetting that Hex is banned from this thread? Also, Plasma windows aren't theory. They exist. The only theory part is making them bigger, which can be disregarded, as 99% of people who study science will tell you "Yeah, they can be made bigger, you just need more energy". Anyway, Research. Previous decade research list: Making jumpjet fuel more efficient. More efficient battery packs to power the Crisis suit. Advanced targeting. Project Scythe Offshoot of project Scythe, to make it usable by Crisis suits (Archi will know what it means) Along with all of those, new projects are being started: Plasma windows Railguns (To improve current ones) Point defense lasers Nanotubes (Improving) Aerogel
The_Mather1
Plasma windows require 8kW/cm, so with enough research on them and power generation it should be enough for a ship. Twitter: @TheMather1
VEGHATERMEATLOVER
They are going to your ubershields. You know that they won't stop bombs and such - they are just heat.
The_Mather1
They are are the equivalent to a sheet of lasers and a buble of syrup around the ship. Don't say your guesses like they're facts. What would penetrate the shield out of a bullet would be a spray of molten steel/lead and out of a bomb it would only be shrapnell left. Shields however cannot block light or radiation. Twitter: @TheMather1
VEGHATERMEATLOVER
So..... if someone fires a big bullet at you only the outside will be burnt and it'll probably still hit or if they do something really fast.If you were to fire a bullet through a laser it would probably be ever so slightly melted but not to the extent your on about with a ridiculous amount of power.
Seraphi
Hex, plama shields can deflect bullets, depending on how much power you are applying, but it is difficult to generate enough power. Their main use is keeping oxygen inside the ship while still allowing fighters and such to leave.
The_Mather1
Hex, we're talking several thousand degrees here, plasma is superheated gas, a plasma window uses superheated plasma, the bullet is slowed down by the viscosity of the plasma then molten by the heat, what's left is a small, short spray of molten metal. Twitter: @TheMather1
VEGHATERMEATLOVER
Its impossible for plasma to have viscosity.Even if what you were talking about was possible it would require about five powerstation to work, lasers that can burn require huge amount of power to work. This is my last post as this is boring.
Seraphi
You're wrong. That is that. They've got physical evidence that plasma has viscosity at high temperatures.
Jehosaphat
So was Hex just banned from playing Hegemony, or was he banned from posting in here altogether? Given occurrences, I would say the prior is in effect and the latter should be.
Retech
Okay Archi, I am continuing the research projects that I stopped last time, for this new decade. Also adding the following projects, bringing my total to 20. Poison gas mines/Poison GasRedesign of tanks - Mark 5 tankNew line of personnel weaponsSpace Fountain Current space fund (I spent 470 billion on research last decade, right?): 330 billion Master of your domain? Nexaduro
(Sorry for the off-topic) Awwww, Techy! I just found out who it is you have a crush on. I take back what I said about the Bill Clinton thing. You two would make SUCH a cute couple! The only problem might be your "Evil Dictator" tendencies and her general kind and happy-go-lucky nature. I can't really see you with someone who says "golly," personally. (Now, on topic) Is there still an opportunity to join this? I might need a teensy overview. 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? Icuownage
Nex, someone could give you some land. Maybe Grim ;) He could easily relinquish Australia. It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? Retech
If someone is willing to give you some land and IAG, then I suppose so. Basically you have your IAG, which is what you get in monies every ten years. It's like your budget, and doesn't carry over from decade to decade. Then their infrastructure, which you invest a percent of your IAG in, so that your IAG goes up (Archi will deal with that). Then it costs 50 billion a decade to research something, and some money to deploy soldiers. Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county!
