Can I recruit for my merchanting clan in the Recruitment Forum?

Featured Replies

Or can only combat and skill based clans be advertised there?

It's not anything like those annoying buyout clans - it's a long-term investing clan for people with 500m+

If not, is there any forum in which I could?

I don't think tip.it would be the place to post this, possibly runescape official forums. And I fail to see how people will believe your buyout is longterm when you and anyone you have ranked will dump their item's at the first sight of profit if you are really wanting to make profit.

No. You don't understand. I'm completely against buyout groups. You can read my post about how it workson my Blog if you want or just believe me. So, with that said, is it okay if I recruit for that?

I would suggest you don't.

Edit: You say it is not a manipulation clan, but putting that much money into one item will manipulate the price. With a whole clan it will have tenfold the effect. Basically you are making a hoarding clan, which may not be against the rules, but if frowned upon here on Tip.It.

I didn't say it's not a manipulation clan - I said it's not like those buyout clans. Regardless, though, as I mention on my blog, we don't specifally buy stuff at Max price so we won't be forcing items up. For instance, I bought 500M worth of Addy Ores about 2 weeks ago at 1130 each (which was below market price) and sold for 1350gp for around 75m profit.

EDIT: I just got a private message from the guy who wrote the thread that has the rules on it (peterpan538) saying:

Of course. Go for it! (and good luck with recruiting!)

I'm sorry to inform you that he was wrong.

Investment clans/merchanting clans/manipulation clans and advertising of these are not permitted on Tip.it. If you post a thread advertising such a group, it will be locked and removed from public view.

If you have any further questions, please PM me.

You're funny. You put a link to an ad in what's supposedly a question. Then you stir up controversy to keep it bumped. Either way you win, huh?

(Sorry, but I'm a bit cynical at merchants in general lately. They've been screwing some items I actually care about.)

Disclaimer: The above is probably inaccurate.

Why don't you gain some skill and knowledge of the Grand Exchange and "flip" instead of "invest" as you call it. With that 500m you gained 75m in 2 weeks. With 500m i could flip double that and gain 150m easily even whilst on school days which reduces my profit by 25%.

not to jack the thread (not like it matters anyways lol) but can someone explain to me how "flipping" works? i know it has something to do with reading the G.E charts but if that all there is to it or is there somethin im missin because i tried doing this and ended up losing 2m on it.

If you do not understand the G.E, then do not bother merchanting in any form, personally i am quite an experienced merchant and graphs mean virtually nothing to me.

I've heard clan leaders like that get shot on sight these days. Your call

There are several types of flipping, but what I do is look for the most stable item I can, then buy med-2.5% and sell for med+2.5%.

OT: This so called 'clan investing' is just another name for long term clan manipulation. You don't completely buy out the item, but you're still manipulating the markets through hoarding among a group of players.

The idea behind solo flipping is to find an item that's volatile but not too much so, and to buy it at a relative low and sell it at a relative high. This is due in some part to other people's impatience and in other part due to natural price fluctuations. In practice, it's messy and I don't dare try it, because it's hard to tell whether something will continue to cycle or permanently lose some degree of value. There's a lot of details to it, and somehow I doubt anyone who knows them well is going to share. So, if you feel like risking your money on a trial run, go ahead, but this should have danger signs stuck all over it.

I have a guide to flipping in my siggy it's really not as dangerous as everyone is saying especially if you do it right.

@mujamill Well I think with more people I'll be able to make more than that and, besides, that was one of my first tries, I'll get better over time. Plus I prefer investing because I don't have the time for day trading like I used to.

@lady_ninane Is there a post here on Tip.It that says so? If you can link me to it then of course won't. If not though why should I listen to you over the guy who wrote the rules for that part of the forum?

Peterpan538, although a respected member of the community, is not a member of the current Clan Staff. Policies have since changed since the topic was originally created. I do apologize that the recruitment board's rules were not updated, so thank you for (inadvertently! :P) bringing that to my attention. This has been rectified. But our policy still stands: we do not allow advertising merchant clans.

Please PM me if you have any further questions. ^^

He wants proof lady. Without it, there is no basis for your objections. Staff members OPINIONS don't matter. RULES are different. No offense intended, but without proof, you don't have a leg to stand on.

I read over the forum rules and didn't see anything prohibiting this other than Tip.it following Jagex rules, but Jagex hasn't totally outlawed clan manipulation and made it a banable offence now have they. I'm curious to see where this rule is specifically stated at.

Even though, he won't get that much, if any, people off of TIF to join his clan most likely.

Considering how everybody is bashing merchanting clans in this topic rather than giving a simple 'yes' or 'no', you're probably right lol. Maybe it's not even worth bothering.

If you do advertise for a merchanting clan, you're going to end up with like 6 pages of flaming and spam about how 'merchanting clans are bad' and 'you're an [wagon]'. If you're willing to put up with this, I don't see why not.

You have gotten your simple "no". :)

RSOF do not allow manipulating clans advertising on their forums, and we have chosen to follow their line on this. If you check out the website polls we have done on merchanting clans, you will see that this is in line with what the users want aswell. To be frank we also don't allow other forms of scams, and we don't want to start making exceptions just because it's a grey area. We apologise that the rule topic wasn't updated accordingly, but this will not change the fact that you won't be allowed to advertise for merchanting clans here.

I can recommend several of our website tools, in example the newly released GE Centre. We're helpful in many ways, but you will have to find actual members somewhere else. :)

Good luck!

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

Except that merchenting clans are not equal to manipulating clans. No one has yet proven that they are unlawful.

I am not advocating the OP or his clan, or anything of the sort. Simply acting as a sort of check and balance for the mods. If they want to say something is against the rule, does anyone really think it too much to ask for proof to be given?
